K/R: two new shoe arrivals

First up: the Matisse studded booties. These are the smallest size available and fit really well with socks, and don't look bad that way. They are a bit loose barefoot (and were chosen for summer) but an insert may solve that.

Second, the Luxury Rebel metallic "loafers". These were really cheap on sale and are incredibly comfy but are they ugly?

Bonus photo of WIW today to get up and go to an 8:30 basketball championship game for my 4th grader. The top is a light grey and white mottled sweatshirt from a local store, to push my comfort zone with light colors. Slouchy skinnies are Gap Always Skinny sized up x2.

The boots are fabulously edgy, and look like you. I vote keep! I'm not sure about the loafers. Maybe its the roll that's throwing my eye, but they look kind of frumpy to me, despite the color.

Love the outfit! I like the grey with the distressed jeans, and you do the faux tuck so well.

LOVE the loafers. My favourite of the two by far. Modern, masculine, simple and trendy.

Cut-out booties are a good fit. I personally like them less - which is merely a subjective style preference. Too many straps and studs; odd choice of sole and heel shape (earthy somehow), and topstitching. But they are a good match for your UWP persona, and absolutely get my thumbs up too.

Una, I know you're thinking, "Well, Angie has spoken -- now if only April would weigh in..."

I was going to say that with your edgy wardrobe, the loafers will not look ugly at all. They could only go wrong if you wore them with incredibly dowdy clothing, which you wouldn't do.

Love the loafers. The sandal booties are cool but have ALGO. I think I'm being influenced by my own desire for simplicity. I want loafers like that.

April, just what I was thinking! The more opinions the better - all are appreciated! Angie has nailed my two style personas and yes, these are very much guy-like slipper shoes. I like them but don't want to look frumpy... The booties do need to be tested with an insert.

Another positive vote for the loafers. Can't wait to see them in action. Love the booties,but I'm concerned that you feel they are big. Can you wear them around home without the socks to see if they are comfortable?

I love an edgy bootie, even if they don't work so well for me, but I'm not loving the pointy things --- I'd be afraid I'd impale the dog, lol (not that I'd kick him intentionally). I do see that they'd work well as a summer shoe in your climate.

I like the loafers quite a bit. I like the low contrast, the subtle metallic, and the slightly masculine vibe.

The booties are interesting- ALGO but very interesting. I like 'em. The loafers don't seem cool enough for you imho.

I like the booties if you can get them to work comfortably barefoot also. (And have some socks that you think will pair well.) They add edge to a more simple outfit like relaxed jeans and a flowy top, and look like they go well with other clothes with distressing and fading, and maybe echo strappy detail.

The long and flat shape of the loafers and the color gives them potential to me, but they feel more workhorse/basic/foundation against which other more edgy items of clothing can shine, and to my eye they kind of need to be paired up that way unless you were going for a classic look or they were worn with edgy skirts or leggings or something cropped. (this is the problem I've had so far when I've tried on many loafers with rolled jeans).

Purely subjective opinion of course.

I love the loafers. I wasn't sure when you posted them initially, but I love the color and the sleekness. I like the idea of the booties but I would prefer them without the studs. But that's just a personal preference as I am a bit over studs I guess.

Love both the booties and the loafers you could get some funky socks like Anna to go with the booties. The loafers are perfection nothing frumpy about them......simplicity at it's best IMHO and I want a pair

Here's a challenge for you: try to look frumpy. Because I bet you couldn't if you tried!
That said I need to see the loafers styled, full length shot. To me (as agreed already) they veer masculine and I have a bit of poison eye for masculine loafers. So I'm no help really am I? But you, frumpy? Lol!

I like the loafers! Does that kill them for you? If they were black they would be too dull, but I love the color. The booties are ok. I personally wouldn't wear them because they wouldn't be warm when it's cold, and wouldn't be cool when it's warm.

On the booties, I like the look of them (very cool!), but you really wanted something you can wear without socks. If it were me, I would return them and use the money toward something that fits without socks, to avoid cluttering up my closet with something that really isn't doing what I need it to do.

I agree that the loafers have a masculine look, and I am like Jules in that I have the poison eye for that. But I think she has an excellent suggestion to style them first and post pix. My first reaction to them was that they are not edgy enough for you. I felt like they were frumpy when I first saw them. I think it is because the vamp is so high and masculine looking.

Yes to the booties, no to the loafers. I sould not say the loafers are ugly, they jut do not seem to fit your style.

I think the loafers look great, and I like them more than the booties. Nevertheless, I understand that the booties look like you. A note of caution: I've never had any luck with inserts, and I've tried them many times.

I would return the booties - because they probably won't work for you in the summer - and you know, there are a lot of similar summer booties out there that I'm sure that you could find that would fit you better.
I like the loafers except that they seem to be really flat. I like loafers that have a bit more of a heel on them. I really love the metallic finish and the shape of these. So frumpy that they are cool!

I kinda like the booties, but the fit issues give me a huge pause.
My first thought on the loafers, add silk pajamas and I can see Hugh Hefner wearing them.

Haha, Anna, I thought EXACTLY the same thing. !!!!!

And then I got worried about myself because I actually liked them -- even with that image in mind!!!

They sort of remind me of my old Aerosoles comfort shoes, too -- and I totally love them.

As for the booties, like Angie I have a bit of a poison eye for the ALGO -- but more than that, it's my gut feeling that without socks those would absolutely KILL my feet. So I worry for that. I want you to have awesome cutout booties for summer that feel as soft as those loafers look.

I really like the loafers. I would be more sure if you posted a full outfit shot - I can only opine so much based on a foot shot! The boots work with your style and I do love your WIW but I don't love the booties themselves and do think you will want to wear them barefoot - although it may be hard to imagine now.

The loafers do not work to my eye at all. I cannot pinpoint why, but they really do seem frumpy to me. Perhaps if I could see them with an outfit instead of just close-up it would change my perception. I don't think YOU could ever be frumpy, Una, just that those loafers could take you a long way in that direction if you were really trying!

LOVE the booties, but I am partial to black, strappy, studded, stompy things, so you may want to take my opinion on them with a grain of salt.

Ooh, a divided vote on both! I am leaning toward a return on the booties for fit. They are about 1/2 size big but a perfect shape for my foot. Does not look like they come smaller. I am leaning toward a keep on the loafers because they were so cheap and are comfortable - but I am not certain yet as I fear that is the path to frump. And believe me, I am fully capable of frumpiness!

Thank you for all the honesty. Hef in PJs is a little odd but not necessarily a deterrent - is that weird?

I think we need to see the loafers with an outfit. They seem to fit well and look good on your foot. They were a steal right? Hard to go wrong.

The booties are giving me pause. As always, if you feel super fab in them by all means go for it.

I love the loafers! Love them. No Hef refernce for me. The booties at first glance I really liked, then the non-black heel started to annoy me.

Well, if you wanted the black ones to wear sans socks, having to wear socks kinda defeats the purpose. :T And I dunno if they stand out enough to earn a spot as a black bootie full stop. Does that make sense?

I actually like the loafers/slippers - any full body shots of those?
