K/R : Tweed Suit - YouLookFab Forum

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for your encouragement on an earlier thread. I bought the jacket and then returned and bought the skirt, but I am very disappointed at what I see in the photos versus what I see in the mirror. At this stage I am planning on returning the suit tomorrow, but I thought I should at least show you and get your input.

The photos range from the suit pieces together, the skirt with other toppers and the jacket with other bottoms and a dress.

Please note I have not "styled" just tried on with a few things.

I included #6 which is a picture I took in my mirror which reflects much better what I see when I look at it. #7 is what the jacket looks like in the pictures with my arms down by my side, but the mirror shows much more waist definition.

For me the suit is just not looking good enough.

What say you. Your (gentle) honesty is very welcome. Thanks for looking.

To me, it looks like there's too much fabric/wide stiffness between waist and jacket hem. Plus this then gives you the double thickness of that over the skirt. I know you have to have a double thickness if a jacket is longer than waist length but it can work better in a finer weight of fabric.

I'm very interested in what's on the horizon for skirted suits. They've been left aside for so long that they seem poised for a modernized revival.

As Ramya said, you are so glam!!! I will add a sigh as well. Sigh!

I also agree that the suit is better as separates, which completely cancels out the beauty of a suit. When you are wearing the suit as two pieces together, I see a lot of bulk in the sleeves, which strikes me as a strange place to have bulk! If you take a look between your shoulders and hips in 1,2 and 7, I think you'll see what I mean. This may very well be the way you are holding yourself and in turn, be the cause of the disconnect you see between camera and mirror (probably because a camera pose is static where you can move around in the mirror).

I hope that helps. But again, you do look so fab... as always!

The fabric and colors are beautiful, but there are two things about the jacket that aren't working for me - the wider lower lapel and the fact that the sleeves look too big (too much extra fabric).

Deborah, the jacket looks as if it's fitting you more like an outerwear coat than as a blazer. The heavier fabric plus the looser fit seems overly bulky on you.

Could you size down in the jacket?

Thanks ladies for confirming my thoughts. I do like the skirt but really do not need it, particularly if not keeping the jacket. I have packed both pieces up and will return tomorrow

I'm sorry Deborah! It is a beautiful suit. I love the cut and it's very flattering. The fabric in the jacket seems to be a little bulky, that's the only thing I can see that might be bothering you.

Gosh. It is beautiful, beautiful fabric. And yet..

I don't know. I am wondering how much of this is a photo thing. I honestly can't tell from the pics. It is so hard to photograph dark things. And when you are standing so that we see the waist definition, it looks lovely.

Does it FEEL bulky?

You look amazing in the skirt, but I think the top piece is a Whole Lotta Jacket. And yes, the suit together is a Whole Lotta Tweed.

I think I would pass on the jacket and keep the skirt if it is something you would wear regularly.

I thought the skirt was lovely, especially in #4 and #8. The jacket, less so, although it worked on its own better. But if you already have equally lovely skirts in the same colour range, I guess there's no point in keeping it.

Well I guess I'm alone in actually really liking the suit. There's something very Jackie-O about it. I agree it's a lotta tweed and the lapels on the jacket are substantial but I think you pull it off beautifully. I'm with Suz in wondering if this is something that looks much better in real life than in photos. How do you feel in it? Is it comfortable?

I like this actually more as a suit(and the skirt alone) than the blazer as a separate, for a matter. I think nr 1 is beautiful from front, and all others with the skirt only. But jacket is a bit of weird with those big round lappels, when not worn with it's skirt of the same fabric to balance somehow the look. Weird, because, I always like to wear suits separated mostly, so don't know what's the problem here?

Oh, and always have the same problem, I like much better my outfits in the mirror, or IRL than photographed. Can somebody explain?

I like the suit together and the jacket is my favorite piece! The shape of the lapels are dramatic and flattering to my eye. And being able to wear it as an outerwear jacket in spring seems like a good option to me

I love the idea of it and you look beautiful in the tweed. The jacket does look a bit bulky, though. I"m sorry you aren't loving it!

I think the stance of the jacket is too low and wide on you. The pieces look great as separates, but the point was a suit, right? Regretfully I'm going to vote to return.

Ok eyes up - like pic 8 the best, and I agree with what others have said about the jacket - it doesn't deserve you.

I'm sorry that this isn't working for you. I wonder if the tweed jacket is too long for the skirt. The other jackets you pair with the skirt are shorter. I do like the idea of a suit with a jacket that isn't the traditional blazer.

I think the suit is very beautiful, but like the others say the jacket is a tad too big, I think, or maybe only the cut is wrong for you. I agree that the skirt looks very good on you, and it is easy to pair with other jackets. If you love it, keep it, but if not I vote return. Sorry! I think you look very fab in #4 and #8!
