K/R trying the fluid fit and not feeling it?

I got this top from LOFT. Love the color and texture. Trying to see if this sort of fluid fit works for me. I am an hourglass and am having a hard time liking fluid fit tops since it feels like they do nothing for me.
What do you think? Flattering enough? Return? I am leaning towards return.
Forgive the crazy hair - that's what happens when I work from home.

1. I don't think all tops are equally conducive to the fluid fit. Some are just a little too big. That may be the case here.

2. If you don't love a look, don't wear it! I find I look all out of sorts in clothes I don't feel good in or enjoy wearing.

3. I think this looks like a nice casual comfortable top but I wouldn't say it's an on-trend fluid fit because it's a pretty conservative or at least classic style. I think a fluid fit top in a trendier shape might feel better (like a boxy top with fitted sleeves). And this would probably look amazing in a size down.

Thanks Una. You are correct - if I don't like it, am highly unlikely to wear it anyways.
The sleeves are pretty fitted for this one, and I think a size down may be too tight.

I feel ya re not being sure about wearing fluid fit stuff; I'm still ambivalent about it too. I posted a K/R the other day with a boxy sweater that I ended up returning because I just haven't adjusted my eyes to the look yet.

I think this top looks pretty good, actually, but I think I agree with AK that this looks like it's in the netherland of being a little loose but not so big it looks intentionally baggy.

I think the way to ease into fluid fits is with lighter, drapier fabrics -- this looks like it might just be a little too bulky to read "fluid." I understand your discomfort! I would try some other fabrications, this one looks like it might just be a little too big.

I was going to say the same thing as Janet re trying drapier fabrics if you're still on the fence with the fluid fit trend.

Yeah. My mom is hour glass with a fabulous chest, and I just fitted her into a Calvin Klein polyamide top in camel with gold buttons and shoulder detail that drapes well on her frame. The problem is the sleeve since she's a 16, but the way 1x fits on her narrow shoulders does make it look more sloppy. Fitting the hourglass shape is hard. Don't give up!

Janet and Meredith - I will be on the lookout for something more drapey to try.

Bostonsmama - what a nice term to use "fabulous chest". I am not exactly too fond of mine, it makes dressing so difficult, and everything is either too shapeless or too bombshelly!

The color looks great but you might prefer a fluid top in a more silky (not necessarily silk) material that sort of falls back against your body.

Also, fluid doesn't mean boxy. It can mean a shaped item that is not so closely fitted. Sometimes that means a size up will do it, and sometimes it just so depends on the cut of the garment so that a particular size will fit "fluidly".
I like the sweater but it reads casual, if that's what it's targeted for.
I find some boxy or oversized tops can read either fashion-forward and can dress up nicely (or, say business somewhat-casual) and some read too casual--not sloppy exactly, but more "relaxed", weekend, jeans wear. So it's hard to get the right look!

A lot of my outfits include a fluid fit - sometimes the top but often the pants. Just FYI - not saying I'm always successful but it is a big part of my style!

I agree with those who say to try a drapier fabric, like a silky polyester, silk, or rayon.

Two other ideas-- I find that I feel a lot more comfortable in fluid fit tops if I do a half-tuck or if I wear a structured topper. Just more ways to try a fluid fit.

Disha, the top is also hitting you at an odd place with a high contrast. Change these aspects up, and the top will look a lot better. Like if you semi tucked the top into blue BF jeans - you would be in business - thereby creating a lower contrast and shorter length. Hope that makes sense.

I hear you! Drapey = dumpy on me 99% of the time. You look like you have a decent shoulder line, however. Have you ever tried one of those deeply V'd wrap blouses?

Thanks all! I did remember that I do have fluid tops I like more, like a silk one from Anthro, will take a picture and post that one.
Angie - maybe the weird point it hits me is the weird thing bothering me, will try it with blue BFs and report back.
DonnaF- I have never tried a blouse like that, will give it a go next time I see one, it may work for me.
