K/R Trouser help, please - I'm just not sure

Came running home to beat the sunset with some Express Editor trousers/pants to compare with Halogen Taylors from NAS. There's a Gap trouser thrown in the mix too - just to confuse me!

I can see keeping two pair, maaaybe three. Sorry for the dim lighting and trying to brighten a few pics.

What do you think? I wore the same shoes just to get a bit of heel, but 4 of the 5 pair need hemming. I also took the same (unflattering) stance each time - just to be fair

Is it too hard to tell, or do you see obvious returns? keeps? or keep looking?

1-2: Express Editors in dark grey

3-4: Express Editors in pinstripe grey

5-6: Gap trousers in navy pinstripe

7-8: Halogen Taylor Contrast Trim

9-10: Halogen Taylor charcoal

You look fab in trouser, I like them all except maybe 9 and 10

Thanks, jen - when I bought 9-10, I was SO sure about them, but in pictures they look shapeless, not nicely slouchy

I think the Halogen trousers look very good on you, and I also think the Express Editors in the first couple of photos (#1 and #2) are keepers. While I realize the pants in #3 and #4 are the same as in #1 and #2 (just a different colour) the first pair (as seen 1/2) look better on you somehow. It might be one of those things where different colours in the very same pants are cut a bit differently - I've had this happen to me as well.

Keep #9-10

Also like #7/8, but these would be my third choice *after* you get #1/2 and #9/10. These are fab too - love the colour of these (7/8). Not sure how many pants you want to get but I think #1/2 and #9/10 are just fab and #7/8 is very, very good.

Hope this helps. I'm no expert on these things, but kudos to you for being persistent, patient and picky (as Angie might say). You're on the right track and it's worth it to try on all kinds of pants to find just the right pair(s). You have two fab pants (1/2 and 9/10) here and one really great pair (7/8).

Thank, VC - you are so right about differences between colors and even in the same size - not all size X are created equal! And 1-2 feels a little more fitted than 3-4!
Interesting that you prefer 9-10 -- whereas that was one jen singled out as least favored!

Hmm. This is tough. I am afraid that the photo quality might sway me in one direction but it might not be true to life. Know what I mean?

But if you can bear with my confusion, I like 1/2 and maybe 7 and 9. Not as sure about those...but I don't think it's the pants. I think it's just that I can't see the detail.

By the way, I LOVE your top. Where did you get that?? Looks great on you.

I like the first pair too. I like to find pants that are fitted enough to show shape but not so fitted that they draw in too much under the booty. These ones and 7 seem to be perfect in that way.

And absolutely, different colors or even a different pair of the same color fit differently. I tried on a pair of grey pants yesterday and the 8 was a bit snug and the 10 was too loose. I tried the same pants in brown and the 10 fit well. It was just a bit larger than the 8 in grey which is what I needed. I often try on two or three of the same item to get the best fit.

I will try to retake pics this morning when I get home from yoga, but life sometimes throws curves on this last day before school starts. . .

High five, dianthus, on trying multiples! Exactly why I prefer minimal help from an SA - because they don't usually understand those subtle differences It's worse with shoes because those aren't usually self service and I have to ask if there are more 8.5s to try. Although,no one has rolled their eyes at me YET - that I've seen.

I'm an Editors fan so saying this feels like cheating, but I'm loving #7 on you. All of the Editors look great but #7 are wow worthy. I'd keep those only. I'm not sure on the GAP ones but It could be the photo. I like the silhouette though, it's different.

I like 1 and 7 a lot from the front - but in the back view, I wonder how they would look a size up? To me these fit like jeans in back - trousers should be looser, and don't stretch out as much - but I don't know what aesthetic you have in mind.

The first pair of Editors looks better than the second one. Is the second pair longer? It appears that the flare starts lower on the leg than in the first pair and that makes the fit off. Also not loving what's happening with the crotch wrinkles on the gray pair of Taylors. And I really like the Gap pants on you, they look fab to my eye from the front. The back fit looks a little tight, but it could be the way you're standing.

Now I'm really curious to see where your preferences lie.

I like the 1st Editors followed by the 1st Halogens. That being said, both look a tiny bit tight but you might want to wear them for a few hours to see if they loosen up. I've never tried Halogens, but I know that Editors can vary a bit from pair to pair even in the SAME size, fabric, cut, etc. IOW, the quality control is not impeccable. I am one of those obsessive people who will try on every pair in a particular model in search of the best fit if I think a pair of pants basically fits (correct size) but could fit *slightly* better.

I agree with Angie, the Editors by a mile. The Gap and Halogen pants appear to pull in at the back.

I really like #1 (I agree with Angie, I was admiring the lack of creases at the crotch point as well; I hope that does not sound too weird ).

I am hesitating on the Taylor trousers because I have a pair from last year and they are my absolute favorite pair of trousers. They have almost no wrinkles after machine-washing and air-drying. If these year's models are similar, I would be reluctant to let them go. But they don't look as good as the Editors in the photos.

I like the first two pairs. The one from Gap and the Halogen ones look fine from the front but too tight from the back.

I like the Editors the best, followed by the Halogen pants, followed by the GAP pants.

So, if you were really only after 2 pairs, I would go with the Editors.

You look good in all of these but my least favorite are Angie's faves (the editors). My most fave is the Gap pair in 5-6. I think I'm just preferring the straight leg over the flare. Although if you put heels on with the editors I might be in Angie's camp.

I'm not so crazy about the lighter NAS pair but maybe with the right styling I could be won over.

I almost didn't post because my favorites were 5-6 also and i saw no one else picked those....until i saw that Denise just posted the same thing so i decided to write it anyway. Like Denise, I also prefer the straighter leg but that could be just my own personal preference?

** DJ - funny but the 1st pair also *feel* better than the 2nd! Both are too long so I didn't compare there

** Makrame - so right - I hate to let them go but I think I'll let the Editor fit win and hope for easy care

** Denise - yes, I was thinking the Gap ones might take me into slouchy straight-legged trouser territory, so they haven't been kicked out of the house, yet
