K/R: trendy shoes & thoughts about PPP.

I've been interested in the silver metallic footwear and colored oxford trend. Everything I've seen online has been pricey. I've been getting discouraged and thinking that by the time I find something, the trend will be over.

So today I was at Target buying a birthday present for a friend's child and happen to stop by the shoe department. I spied a pretty cobalt oxford with fuschia soles and laces as well as fun silver glitter tennies.

Pros:
1) I don't own any oxfords and those that I've tried on before, seemed chunky on my feet. These seem on the slender side and the color combo makes it more feminine to my eye. Plus cobalt is my color and I'm allowing myself to grab up any in that color that makes me happy.

2) I'm not sure how bright silver will work in my wardrobe, so I thought get a cheap pair and see if it plays nice. Plus, this qualifies as sassy sneaks, no?

3) The sequin leopard tennies that I have on in #1, I have hardly worn. So that makes me think I need to test drive some cheapies first.

Cons:
1) Now I already know these two shoes are not 8 hour shoes. I figure pop some insoles to help with the flatness, but the oxfords make my feet hot pretty quickly. Do you think if I find low height cobalt ankle socks it would look fine with these oxfords?

2) The tennies are leaving little glitter dust deposits. That doesn't really bother me, but do y'all think that's tacky?

3) Maybe I don't wear the sequin leopard tennis much because I didn't apply the PPP principles and I would have worn them more if I waited for the right pair.

Ack, trendy stuff is so hard to figure out when it's worth applying PPP! That's why I'm so thankful for the collective YLF wisdom. Alright, sound off and don't worry about holding back! : P

I vote keep the cobalt oxfords, they look very fine on you.

I like the silver sneaks too but since you already have the sequin leopard sneakers in #1, maybe you can make do without them? Are the leopard sneaks laceless?

I think the outfit you are wearing doesn't go that well with the leopard sneaks, I think you need a different color scheme to make them work, like taupes and greens and browns or whatever colors are in the shoes, perhaps grey as well.

I'm on the fence with regards to both.

I first thought "keep the sneakers", they will work with more stuff, but the issue of glitter everywhere means you'll hate cleaning your own home and others may not be happy when you come either This is one mum who can't stand all the glitter art work that comes from the kindergarden speaking, btw.

Oxfords look fun, but the issue of not being comfortable mean you will not want to wear them. Nobody wants to wear uncomfortable shoes knowingly - or so at least I think.

I say add the inserts and keep those oxfords, they rock! Not sure about how much the glitter coming off would bug you? For myself that wouldn't work...

I like the leopard and think of them as a neutral and extremely versatile.

Glitter may not bug you, but it may bother others that you visit.

I love the look of the oxfords on you. I am nervous about the comfort factor. Insoles will help, but nothing will help cool them down. They will only get hotter as spring and summer truly arrive. I do love them, but I am learning I need to spend a bit more on shoes and cut back in other areas. It is hard to say this because I so love the look of them on you!

Interesting! So -- when you visit friends, do you take your shoes off or keep them on? Maybe that answers the silver tennies question. I LOVE how they look on you. I wonder if you could spray them with some kind of glitter fixative? From an art supplies store?

I also love the way the cobalt shoes look. But I hear you on the question of comfort. I honestly don't know what to say about that. For me, in the heat and humidity, closed shoes are uncomfortable and cause blisters. But if you have a few months before the real heat hits, they could be great. Also, it's possible they would work well for you on your trip...you will be in and out, carrying bags, etc. And closed toes provide safety.

I completely understand wanting to keep them, but it sounds as if there are more negatives than positives with both pair. The oxfords look fabulous on you, but if your feet get hot that sounds pretty uncomfortable.

Maybe the silver will stop shedding after a while?

Here's my story:
I was recently looking for a pair of sneakers to wear on vacation - I looked everywhere, couldn't find what I wanted and that fit correctly. I was in Target, found an inexpensive pair, bought them even though they weren't PPP, bought the insoles for comfort, and then a week later found the PPP pair in a different store. Unfortunately, I had already worn the Target sneakers a few times, so I couldn't return them. I did buy the better quality/exactly what I wanted sneaksers and have been happily wearing them ever since. I learned my lesson: don't settle!

If the shoes were within your budget and they make you happy I say keep them! They are a great way for you to explore some classic footwear in trendier finishes/colors. If you end up loving the look, you can always explore an "investment" pair down the line.

Shedding glitter IS tacky-- I would avoid that totally. The oxfords really need to be comfy at whatever price point, so you need be picky there. I would not want to rely on any kind of sock that would show ( with shorts--I do wear thin socks with Oxfordshire and trousers). I cannot wear a leather closed shoe without some kind of sock or footie or liner and that is influencing the role of such shoes in my summer wardrobe even though I love.oxfords.

Stay the course, AJ! Send both back and put the $ in reserve for shoes that are comfy, don't make your feet hot, and don't shed. They'll turn up eventually.

I had those oxfords in tan (lol), bought them for the same reason, and returned for the same reason. Well, actually, I felt that faux suede would be both hot and a little wintry and hard to care for. The blue is far cuter, though!

I've purchased shoes from Payless and Target that have ended up being true workhorses and had more quality shoes that fell apart in a few wears. So frustrating!

Love the blue, and an insole would make them more comfortable, but not more breathable. How important is that to you?

If I remember correctly, the glitter doesn't shed on the silver --- it's a fabric, right?

In the summer, I have lots of shoes that I rotate a lot -- most of them fairly inexpensive. I'm much more particular in fall and winter, when I'm teaching at the college and dealing with Chicago cold. Summer is time to play with footwear fashion!

Those leopard sneaks are really fun! Could you challenge yourself to wear them once a week for a while? Do you feel the need to have a smaller shoe "wardrobe" that you use really efficiently?

PPP is hard! In my experience, when I have initial doubts, I often regret the purchase. If there are any issues in regard of comfort or practicality, I vote return. The Oxfords look really nice, though - but ultimately only you know best.

Mmm... unfortunately I kind of agree with the return votes. I am all for trying out trends on the cheap, but the hot feet and shedding glitter are factors that might prevent you from wearing them as much as you would otherwise... then the experiment is compromised, because the other factors cloud how easy and fun the trend is to wear. Just my two cents. I do really love the idea of both silver and oxfords for you!

I love them for your sporty style but I would hold out for better quality. I also think the leopard sneaks are really cute but don't work that well in the pictured outfit. I think they might look better with some thing black,olive,green,yellow or white with a safari vibe. I could also picture you in a refined wedge sneak--like the Ash Deans in metallic. I wish there was something out there at a more reasonable price point.

Personally, I would add up all of the funds I think I could afford on inexpensive try ons and would buy something of a better quality.

I do love the idea of a oxford for you. I saw some laceless perforated oxford shoes by BCBD generation, in leather for about $69.00 somewhere online. I will try to link later when I have a chance to look.

You look amazing in the oxford style. Oxfords aren't practical for me because by the time my booties are too warm, I only have a few weeks before I need sandals. The hot foot thing would be a killer for me, if I were honest, which it would be EXTREMELY hard to be with the shoes looking that good.

First of all I love both of them! Given the quality issues, glitter flaking off & synthetic material being hot, I would wait for PPP. Sorry but I think a bargain isn't a bargain when it doesn't work out or get worn. I literally feel sick just walking in the shoe department at target. The plastics make me sick. It bums me out that the sci fi metallic shoes are mostly synthetic. I'm not sure if they can get the mirror finish with leather. Perhaps patent leather but then that wouldn't breathe as well as regular leather.

I was going to say it, but Unfrumped said it before me. I vote return. You are worth much much better! They are cute, but the quality is simply not there.

AJ, Both the pairs look great but the cons with both of them make me want to return them. especially the silver sneakers as shedding glitter will be very annoying and I think you can certainly find a silver sneaker with different finish.

I tried on those oxfords--the color is great but man! my feet were not happy (and if my feet aren't happy, then neither am I). I vote return for those based on your misgivings + my experience with them.

I wonder if the Brass Plum Mayfield Oxford (~$80) with a similar look would work? Not inexpensive (but also more comfortable)?

The cobalt oxfords are FAB and I really never like oxfords often. If you can doctor them up with insoles to make comfie I say keep.

I agree to keep only if you love them because like others I find if I have any doubts they become orphans pretty quickly. I like both of these but they need to be super comfy!
