K/R trenchcoat - YouLookFab Forum

I got this Cole Haan trench at Nordstrom Rack yesterday. It's a size medium, and they also had a small. The small did fit, but when I crossed my arms it felt tight, and I definitely couldn't fit a sweater or jacket underneath. In these pictures, I'm wearing a thin sweater underneath. I also tried it with a jacket and it feels fine, not that I wear those very often. What do you think about the extra fabric around the middle? Did I get the right size?

Also, these are my two existing jackets. I've gained 5-10 pounds since buying them. The brown one is still comfortable with a regular shirt underneath, because it is a stretch fabric. It even feels good when crossing my arms. The black zips up obviously, but it feels very tight if I cross my arms. Is crossing the arms a fit requirement?

I think # 5 looks good - as long as it feels okay irl I don't think the fit is an issue.

I bow to the experts on the trench - I think it looks a little big on the shoulders but I don't need to layer much in winter:)

Thanks, Caro. Yes, I'm definitely keeping the bomber for now. I can still wear it open. Fit is a real problem for me, though. I'm constantly buying things in the wrong size, so I'm wondering whether crossing the arms comfortably is a requirement in people's minds... or what people think about the fit of the trench above.

I think you got the trench in the correct size. You need room underneath to layer a blazer IMO and the belt pulls in any extra fabric around the middle. My recent trench borders on too large in the shoulders too - until I put a blazer on underneath and then it's fine.

I don't like a trench or outerwear jacket that is too tight - I need to be able to reach up or down and be able to move my arms freely.

The colour is gorgeous BTW!

I think the trench is fine. IMO, It seems to fit well in the shoulders and the extra material is a bit necessary for layering. The belt finches it in and it looks great! The colour is just beautiful and sings Spring!

I know, isn't the color great?! I've recently discovered this blue red is my best red. That's why I really went for this coat.

The trench looks just fine on the shoulders so I think you got the correct size. The fabric has enough drape that when you belt it in there's no bunchiness either. I love the colour - so cheery for spring.
your other jackets look just fine too.

The fit of the trench looks PERFECT in #2! Is there lots of scrunched fabric at the back? Looks like you bought the right size from what I can gather from the photo.

You can also leave the jackets open for extra comfort. The leather jacket looks great!

Oooh, I like the trench. Such a vibrant color, and the fit looks good. I think you chose the right size as I would want the extra room for layers. Spring can be so finicky!

Like the leather jacket, and I like it open a lot. More comfortable and it creates a nice long line.

I like them all! If you can't even get a thick sweater under the small, tht is no good. For the jackets, I think they are also good if you can go about your day.

The trench color is gorgeous and it looks great to me. I like the leather jacket on you. I don't think the brown one in #4 is up to the level of the trench and leather.

You're probably right, Shevia. That particular jacket is about 7 or 8 years old. I actually bought it at the book store in grad school. I guess I'll keep it around for now. The "leather" jacket is faux, but I'm glad it's convincing in pictures. I do wish I had that one in medium instead of small. It's 3 or 4 years old as well. I can zip it but it comes unzipped on its own, so it's staying open for the time being.

As for the trench, I don't notice any bunching that I would consider unsightly when it's belted.

Yes, the trench looks great. I'm not a fan of the brown jacket but tbe black is cute so if you can wear it unzipped then keep wearing it.

The trench is great and I adore the color. Red is my favorite non-neutral neutral. What a fun way to add personality to everything! The black leather jacket looks really nice to me too. The brown one looks a little fitted buttoned up and it looks maybe a smidge dated to me. Not out of style, but not super stylish either. I would let that one go. After all, you have "red" in your closet now!

Just to clarify, in the third picture I am pinching the extra fabric. I've tried it on a few more times, and realized that the fit is perfect in the back but balloons out a bit in the front. If I keep it, I may end up having to get it tailored.

I'm totally Team Save in that I tend to keep the tags on for a few weeks of trying things on before I can commit. This is a big purchase for me even at Nordstrom Rack prices. I actually tried this trench on a week ago, and I kept thinking back on it, so I had to go pick it up. Now I have to decide whether to cut the tags. Thanks for everyone's support.
