K/R transitional jacket ETA my old short trench

Dear Fabbers,
I ordered this jacket, it was on huge sale, it is from Escada Sport.
I am now contemplating whether to keep or return. I quickly styled here with a scarf and gloves, but it is very versatile, so there are many options.
Pros:
* GREAT quality AND machine washable. Thick beautiful cotton fabric, very well made.
* Classical look, versatile.
* Great price.

Cons:
* Don’t love it on me. The shape is too straight, a bit to “sporty” or something.... Maybe just not my style? Too wide? Or too long?
Or maybe wrong trousers to this?
* Have a couple of trench coats - long and short, that could do the same job, already.

I am undecided and would appreciate your opinion. Do you like it? Does it work on me? Is the fit all right? What would you do?

ETA I added a picture of my really old short trench coat and the outfit I wear today. After considerations and your valuable feedback - I will return the jacket. The trench does the same job and I feel better in it.

Hi Katerina! You look great as usual but my vote is return. Your reasons for keeping are all sort of theoretical, logical, very "head" focused reasons. But I think you should listen to your "heart." You have lots of GREAT clothes that suit your style to a T, I have a hard time imagining when you would choose to wear this jacket you feel so-so about instead of one of your other options. In short, if it's not a Heck Yes it's a No.

Agree with Sarah D8. As soon as you wrote: “I don’t love it on me” I thought That’s a No. In fact that’s a sort of mantra I’m using for myself, to really love it by itself first and secondly to really love it ON ME.
Think you should return for that reason.

Well......1. as soon as you even think "I don't love it on me", that's a sign you need to pay attention to (this coming from someone who buys too many things I don't like on myself) 2. HOWEVER..... I think the silhouette is very flattering on you, and this shirt-jacket style is trending big-time right now (that's 70's look again). I saw a bunch of them yesterday at Aritizia and actually burst out laughing . Trendy or not, I think this trimmer silhouette really works for you, and could be a versatile piece. I don't want to talk you into anything , because I don't think anyone of us needs anything so badly we should be talked into it....

I see this as a chore jacket to wear at one’s weekend country estate where one personally is not responsible for any chores. . .

Your heart is telling you to return it. A bargain not worn is no bargain.

I think the jacket looks lovely on you and I love how you styled it with the red. I could see how you would consider keeping it even if you don’t love it. But a bargain in the closet is no bargain at all.

But before you send it back, I think I would audition it against the other trench coats in the closet that would do the job.
If this one outshines one or two of the others, AND if you can move at least one of those out of your home, AND if you would wear it sometime specific, then perhaps this new one can stay. Otherwise, if you like the coats you already have better, maybe this would only become unworn clothing.

You have posted so many fantastic outfits and have a lovely clothing sense. I think it needs to be the among the best of the choices in your closet for that outing for you to wear it.

You have styled the jacket to perfection, because you are an amazing stylist. Please return it because you need LOVE to add things to your amazing wardrobe, not just functionality.

I added a picture of one of the trench coats which can do the same job as the jacket. It is old, bought some 8 or 9 years ago from Escada, but still going strong. I feel it suits me better. The jacket goes back.

I think you made the right call and would reach for the trench but, if you ever need a casual jacket, this one looks refined and stream-lined.

Good decision, since you said you didn't love it! It looks nice, and consistent with your style, but I like the trench more too I'm surprised that the beige works so well on you, since you're so good in vibrant colors!

Late to this, but I just want to say that I think you made good decision. I actually liked the jacket very much, but when I saw it again compared to your old trench, it was clear to me that trench is wining:)

It looked great on you, but you didn't need it and didn't love it, so poof was the right decision!

The short trench is also lovely. If it does not need replacing, then save the money for a fab new scarf!

I much prefer the old trench!
