K/R: Topshop crop and Helmut Lang skirt

This cropped striped sweater from Topshop's petite line fills a 12 x 12 item hole for a RATE striped sweater. I love that it is truly cropped on me, but does it work for my IT shape? I'd probably wear it with a more fitted underlayer but just threw it on over this black top for now.

Also up for consideration is a Helmut Lang skirt that was on my wishlist forever and finally went down to 70% off. It's the pattern and color that I love, as well as the funky cut. But not sure it's doing me any favors. I could use a more RATE/UWP skirt to replace the millions of not-so-me skirts I am about to ditch. Does this fit the bill? I paid under $100 for it at Nordstrom.

And apologies for not being around so much - it has been crazy a la Shannon's "overwhelmed" post... My friend at Mayo just got some really bad news, DS is superbusy with school and sports, work is going bonkers, my parents' condo needs managing, pets are needy, etc. But I miss all my time here!

Ha, notice how RATE I am! One green fingernail (Aida gave me some homemade nail polish that I tested in the airport!), and banged up knees from a fall in the parking lot on Sunday. NICE!

Yep, I did notice the knee and I literally went " that's my girl". LOL.
I do like the top a whole lot as well as the skirt. Are you OK with how tailored it is? It looks a bit tighter than your usual fare, but I know it is the fabric. If so, I vote keep on both.

Nice indeed! I love the skirt and I like but am not sure about the cropped sweater - mostly because it is cropped and I am lacking the vision to see how it will looked styled other ways. I hope wiser eyes will be more helpful!

I really like the cropped striped sweater - I have had that on my list for a year and haven't found the right one yet. I also really like the cut and pattern of your skirt. I would keep both!

Zap, good points! I kind of like the fit -- it is a mesh fabric almost like those "Sweet Pea" tops... so tight but stretchy. My mistake in the past has been falling for pretty, swishy skirts that I can't style. If this outfit works, I've found at least one way to wear it! What do you think of this look?

Rae, the sweater is not that pricey and it's on the Topshop site! This is the length I love - it's petite.

I like it, a lot. That skirt can be dressed up or down and that's hard to do with a pencil skirt, for example.

Thanks, Zap! I think it will also work for summer with some chunky sandals and a black t. Plus it's PACKABLE! At full price it's pretty flimsy but for the price I paid, it's okay...

Need to say no moe. I'm sold. It would look really good with faded denim too.

I like both. The sweater styled with black shirt, pants & boots as you've done makes you look very tall with long legs. The IT shape doesn't seem to matter here.

Love both. The skirt is just exquisite. The colours, the cut... Sigh. I think you have quite a few styling options with this too. Styling if the crop top is perhaps limited but I say keep. It looks great over the black top, now about a white long blouse? Pattern mix underneath the crop ?

Adore the skirt --- it's beautiful, it's fun, and it's definitely different from the usual A-lines and pencils.

The sweater --- I certainly like it on you, a lot (and am secretly tickled to see you in stripes, after all); but not sure if it's terribly RATE. Can be styled in a RATE way for sure; but in and of itself... am not sure. Though that's more to do with my lack of imagination perhaps, than the item itself.

Love the skirt. I see why you were stalking it! Mi think it looks great, and the fabric sounds like it is comfortable. I also see you in this shape skirt far more than a swishy one. Will it work with your harsh winters? Or is this more for summer?

I like the sweater, but I have a hard time envisioning it styled.

I love both, especially the skirt! It's perfect for you. I'm always drawn to skirts like that, but I have exactly the wrong body type for them, so I'd look even more comically bottom-heavy. Sigh!

Quite like the cropped sweater, that's a really fun piece! I really like the print on the skirt, but not sure on the cut. At the very least the shape does give a little extra hip illusion

That skirt! I've long lusted after a Helmut Lang skirt and IRL (as you know) the construction and materials are spot on. Sorry to hear life is wacky but you're facing it looking great!
