K/R? The shirt dress

Sorry for the rotten photos. It is pouring with rain but the light is bouncing off the walls - not good for taking photos.

Would really appreciate your honest opinions about this dress for me. This needs to be a 10 or close to if I'm going to keep it.

It fits well - no problems when I sit/move etc.

It works with all my heavier coats too. The 2 coats in the photos (#5 & #7) are linen so they are spring & cooler summer outfits.

Photo #6 is the dress worn open.

I don't see any issues, although I also am not feeling like forcing you to keep it or else... If you love it, it looks like a great potential workhorse. You look happy!

Love it in 4-7. Like it in 2/3, but would like to see something around your neck, a necklace or scarf. Not so sure about it with the sleeves unrolled.

I love that this can be worn as a dress or as a topper itself. It looks fab, both with the booties and especially with the Okalas. I love it with the denim jacket and the Okalas. It looks like it could be a versatile, go-to item.

What an incredibly versatile piece!!

Does it feel as good as it looks? Because if it does, you have found a winner beyond measure.

Let me get this straight: The dress can work in your winter (or at least autumn) with hose and booties (and some kind of jacket or coat). It can work in spring with bare legs and your Okalas, sleeves long or rolled, topper or not. It can work as a jacket. It can work under various coats.

And it is navy/ ink blue???

Let me grab my smelling salts.

Interestingly, I feel the opposite to Marmee; I do not want a scarf of necklace in 2-3 at all. OTOH, I do see what she is saying about the long sleeves -- they feel a bit voluminous or something at full length. I wonder if there is a way to rein them in. I would probably just scrunch, but I wonder if there is a cuff if it could be made tighter.

Marmee I agree about the sleeves they do need shortening. I think that will make them look a lot better. Like Suz I like it sans acessories for some reason but I see what you mean.

Thanks Helenedith, the fabric is what initially drew me to the dress it is a beautiful silk with a small amount of elastain.

My first instinct is that it's a good workhorse that looks like it would be incredible useful and versatile for you, but I'm not sure it's a quite 10. Something about the extreme simplicity of the style combined with the high neckline and lack of structure makes it feel like it's nice, but sort of a solid background player rather than a piece that "makes" the outfit, if you know what I mean.

Then again, I have a feeling that the pictures aren't doing true justice to the material, how it hangs, etc. And you also seem to have such a handle on your style and what works for you that I'd trust that your instinct, whether it's to keep or not, is the right one for you. So, basically, take my opinion with not just a grain but a whole handful of salt.

OMGoodness, how versitile! I clicked through the photos and kept thinking "man, this is the same dress?!".

I do think it needs something though ie, I don't care for it on it's own, with the sleeves down. Sleeves rolled, with a topper, as a topper, with a scarf, etc. definite yes. I guess it's a workhorse background piece, not a star in its own right.

Caro, Please keep! I have a shirtdress that is similar and I have worn it in so many ways...just like you so brilliantly showed. I especially LOVE it as a topper over skinny pants #6. I think you will find it to be a workhorse for you--dressing up, down, and accessorizing.

IMHO, this is a no brainer. You must keep Caro! It looks brilliant in all of your stylings, is extremely versatile, fits well, can be worn as a dress or as a topper, is a beautiful ink blue. LOVE IT!

I echo Aubergine; I guess we're spanners here. I don't feel like this is your preferred style, but maybe it fits in with your current environment? I think I would prefer a lower neckline on you. It is an extremely nice dress however, and could be quite a workhorse if you want.

Aubergine - thanks for your thoughtful reply & believe me I do value your opinion I really know what you mean about the dress being a backdrop for the outfit & I think that is what I was looking for - my DH has a wide range of work functions that I attend as "& partner" & don't want a lot of clothes for this capsule. I thought if I could find a "classic trans-seasonal dress" it could be reinvented for several of these occasions. I had high hopes that it would also work in a more funky way in my real life too I think this may be the one. I just need to find one for evening now

Thanks DonnaF - appreciate your honesty - if I was wearing it as in #1 I think I would open the top button & make a "v" neck as I do prefer lower necklines on me too
