K/R: the mural floral back tux vest

This was on Angie's Nordstrom roundup list last week and pretty much screams me so of course I had to order it when it popped back in my size. Not styled at all here. The armholes seem quite large but the rest of it appears to be the right size. In the last 2 photos I am trying to show you how much the armholes stick out. But it is a vest, so maybe it doesn't matter because I would always be wearing something under it...

It really does scream Diana, doesn't it? I am unsure on the fit issue. It does look a bit odd in those last photos, I must say. I don't know how one might alter that. Or maybe if it sort of conformed to you a bit it wouldn't stand out stiffly and would be less noticeable. Maybe it would be worth trying a size down? If they have?

I looooove the flowers, but I don't love the fit. I'm with Suz, try a size down? Is there a petite option? When I look at this, I think 'art smock'.

It is out of stock right now in all sizes but I will keep an eye out for a smaller size. I guess it has no closure anyway so sizing down would probably work.

The fit is off. I wish it were more fitted through the waist.

I love this on you. It does't seem like it would be a difficult alteration to take in the armholes or even the side seams a bit if a smaller size isn't available.

It does look "big" on you, but I admit I'm not sure how it's supposed to fit. Hopefully Angie will weigh in. I do like the flowers.

The off-centredness of the flower print would drive me crazy. I think a smaller size is worth trying.

Ceit, I don't' think it's actually off center. I'm just standing in some really weird way in the 3rd pic.
ETA: Or do you just mean how it's not symmetrical? I actually prefer that.

Well I think it's gorgeous on you Diana - very you in style. And I quite like the fit. I don't think this vest is meant to be close fitting to the body - it's almost like a boyfriend style vest but with a girly back, you know? It would be incredibly easy for a seamstress to just put in a small dart under the arm to rein in some of that excess fabric. Although honestly, the fabric might relax there after wearing a few times and not stick out at all. I vote keep.

Okay, so you bought it at Nordies, so you have some time to see if it comes back in stock. If it doesn't, could you take it to a tailor and see it you could adjust the fit.

I love the idea of it on you, but the fit is off. The arm holes are too big, and this makes it bulge away from you. If that could be adjusted so that it is tailored and skims your body, I think this would be a 10!

I don't think the fit is off at all in the torso, hip or length! It looks AMAZING.

As for the armholes, it's hard to see in the photo. It might come right with another layering top, or will just be an easy alteration.

I really like it! I see what you mean about the too wide armholes, but I think that would be an inexpensive alteration.

Thanks, everyone. I think I will play around with it some more and maybe pin the armholes to see what I can do with that. I'll also keep an eye out for a smaller size.

About the armholes: it looks OK from some angles and huge from others... I am not sure. I might try with a sleeveless top underneath - I think it'll be easier to tell that way. As I said, I will pin it and see whether I can alter it.

I have to admit that I have control issues with tailors, and I don't have one I trust. Nordie's house tailors are not an option because it is very hard for me to get to actual B&M Nordie's w/o a car (it is in the suburbs). My favorite tailor is my mom but she is 3000 miles away and quite busy. Anyway, this is all to say that I've taken to doing easy tailoring (hems, lifting shoulders, that kind of thing) myself and not buying things that require serious alterations. I should add that I don't even own a sewing machine!

Okay, I am having trouble with the idea of a floral that I wouldn't be able to ever see, myself, because it's only on the back! So when I look in the mirror it reads like a big black vest. I can see its being stylish, but it would make me kinda crazy--like I'd be looking over my shoulder. Good for you, though.

It's nice to se this "in person" or on a real person at least. I actually like how this looks from the front even more than the back. I just think its a great look for you.

I think it is just how you were standing -- it looks fine to me on the product page. In your photo the whole print looked offset.

I like it but not with the blue top you have on. I think the vest should be the longest part, not another top. I would say, try a loose tee under it that is semi tucked.

I had thought this was supposed to be an oversized vest, so I do not think you need a smaller size. As for the armholes, how do they look with a slouchier top? I am thinking kind of a Denise look.

Denise, I agree that the top I'm wearing doesn't work. I'm not worried how to style this though. I have a million ideas, starting with the outfit below (which I always wanted to wear with a longer vest, but I didn't have one).

Rae, I'm not concerned about the slouchiness exactly, more that the armholes seem to stick out a lot width-wise. If they were just long I wouldn't be worried at all.
