K/R, the brights and whites edition

Here are some recent purchases - I will only keep the 10's.

1/2) GAP shrunken blazer in white - bear in mind I have not pressed it. I really want a white blazer, and have returned the others I've tried. Shown with one sleeve rolled up which is how I'd wear it.

I would wear the following with white bottoms mostly:

3/4) Pleione top.

5/6) MK top. I NEVER in my life have worn something this bright. Is it TMGO? Does the color work for me?

7/8) Sandra Ingrish top that Angie posted. Again, does the color work? Does the Dolman shape turn my rectangular shape into an IT in a way that's not flattering?

Wow Sarah - you look fantastic! I absolutely adore all three blouses on you! That blue colours in #3/4 are so flattering with your skin and hair colouring; the MK top is FAB - I love the style on you and the colours/pattern look great; I don't see any IT action from the Sandra Ingrish top - love the drape on it.

I'm not sure about the Gap blazer - how does it feel on?

Thanks, Shannon - the blazer feels good, a bit roomy in the front, but I think if I went smaller it would be tight across the shoulders (although I could try ordering the next size down).

I love the bright blouses! They are all keepers. I am having the same problem with the white blazer that I had when you tried on the express one. I just don't think bright white is that flattering against your face. If you add a scarf to soften the transition from your skin to the jacket, I think it would resolve the issue. I guess this wouldn't really work for me because I would want to wear the white jacket without a scarf when it gets hot.

Rita, that's interesting (and a bit frustrating) and helpful. I was hoping a white jacket would be a versatile spring and summer (for conferences) piece, since I wear jackets so much all winter, and really love the way they pull outfits together. Maybe I should consider another color, I guess. I hadn't really thought about that. You're right, wearing scarves in the summer is NOT practical.

I really love the top in pics #3 and 4. It is my favorite of the three. The MK top. is nice but prefer the other two over it. I like the Sandra Ingresh top a lot and don't think the dolman sleeves are a problem at all. Maybe the blazer is just a little stiff. Sometimes they stand away from the body a little when they are brand new but soften up a little as time goes on. The fit seems good. I am sort of conflicted about white blazers. I always find myself feeling more comfortable with cream or ivory. However I think the blazer here will work well with all those tops!

*Squee!!** What a great haul, sarah! Gah, you are on a summer top roll. LOVE them all. I don't think you could go wrong with any of these especially since they all look so good the way you styled them. Every one of those tops could be paired with walking shorts for an easy summer look. My fave is the colorful one--it's so energizing and I love the fun hemline!

The jacket looks like it fits really well. I don't think it looks too big--it looks like it falls close to your body in the side view. I would think it would be more comfy for spring/summer with a little bit of air flow. What a great blazer!

ETA: I just read the other comments about white. I like the contrast of white--it looks so crisp. I remember Angie posting about the different variations of white that people look best in--bright white vs. cream, etc. Perhaps take a look back at that post. I think the color looks great on you though.

ETAA: I can't find the post. Maybe I dreamt about it. Hmm. I thought optical white was something everyone could wear.

Working my way backwards - I think the coral blouse looks great on you, much better than it looks on the Nordstrom page. I also love the MK blouse. I am less sure about the blue and white top. The colors and front view are great, but I am less sure about the side view - what happens if you have the band evenly around your hips?

Is the gap blazer the all-cotton one? I see the appeal of machine washable for a white jacket. But I have a thing against cotton for stuff that is supposed to be tailored, I think it just doesn't hold its shape properly.

Love all the blouses, Sarah. Yes, they're brighter than your fall/winter wear, but it seems like you're having fun crossing over to the "bright side." The dolman sleeves on the red top really add contemporary flair. I'm not loving the white jacket, although white often doesn't photograph well. It is partly related to it's relation to your skin tone, but it's also a tad boxy. I think I'd like a white blazer on you better were it fitted and a little longer -- following your shape a little more. Just my two cents! Remember things can look different IRL! BTW -- Amazing boots!

Sarah, so good to see you! It's been so long I had forgotten about your fab hair!! You look wonderful.

Now, on to business.

I like the fit of the Gap blazer from the side. And I suspect Meredith is right about the slight stiffness to start; the fabric will probably soften a bit.

And I hear you on the longing for a white (or at least a very light) topper. I love jackets for the same reason, and they are also very practical with air conditioning. To my eye, the white isn't horrible on you, but I wonder if a slight off-white (winter white?) would work better? I do occasionally wear true white myself, but I think I can look better in a winter white. However, if you've already been trying lighter jackets on and may already have exhausted possibilities. if this jacket's at a good price point, maybe it would be good to have it for now while you keep looking for your ideal piece?

LOVE the tops. They are gorgeous!! I think you look wonderful in each of them. My only caveat re the dolman sleeves is that will probably be for wearing without a jacket!

By the way, I think Kelly is right that Angie once wrote about whites. I am sure it's somewhere on the archives.

Coming back to add...I hear Cinnamon Fern re cotton for a jacket; that CAN be a problem, and it may in fact BE the problem here. I wonder. From the front the fit doesn't look quite right.

First, can I say how great you look in red? Both those two tops --- the ikat/tribal print and the dolman sleeve look utterly fabulous on you, and I wouldn't hesitate a minute (actually love the one you're wearing under the jacket as well!). The blue is very pretty too.

I like the jacket fit and shape, and if you wear it open over colourful tops, I don't see wearing it next to your face as a big issue anyway. Alternatively, how about colourful earrings? Since you do seem to wear earrings...

Okay, back again to say...how about putting that white jacket with a different top (this one might be a bit sticky?) and rolling BOTH sleeves and let us see the fit then? Although with you needing/wanting it and Angie voting it a 10 I think you'll keep it regardless!

My personal favorites are 1 and 3. I think the MK top looks nice on you, it's just a lot of color (at least on the compute). It has nice shape and drape though. I'm not loving the boxiness of the last blouse, but the color works for you.

Those little colourful tops are just adorable on you. Yes, they are worth keeping. Now the white jacket. For some reason, it is not a 10 to me. I think it might be the cut - shoulders seem too narrow - but this might be due to the angle. Suz has a good point too about the shade.

I love your blouses and I think they will look great with white jeans in the summer.

Not sure about the jacket's fit 100% but I agree with you, a white jacket for summer conferences sounds like a great idea. I was actually inspired by your earlier post about the Gap blazer to buy this jacket http://www.nyandcompany.com/ny.....eve-Jacket (mine was only $30 because of a store closing sale; right now it looks like it would be slightly above $50 on sale). It is a linen blend, and I have already washed and air-dried it and it seems to be fine, even though the label says "dry-clean". It is longer than the Gap blazer, I think, but the sleeves are 3/4 length.

Kelly - I am FINALLY finding some summer tops after over a year of trying. Maybe I'll even rival you in summer tops one of these days.

It sounds like the tops are keepers for sure, and I appreciate all of your thoughtful comments about the jacket. I will probably try posting it pressed and styled "for real" with some other tops to get your feedback on it again.

two 11's from Angie! congratulations! My personal favourite is bright red blouse. You look so radiant and lively in that. Also, I love your boots. I am on the fence about Gap blazer. The fit is not perfect.

Wow you found some great tops I like all of them but I think my favorite is 5/6 and 7/8. The blue is a great color on you but sometimes the banded bottom bothers me. I think the white jackets is a good fit and you will enjoy it this Spring/Summer. Is that Sandra Ingrish top the cotton or poly. top?

I think you may have found your perfect white blazer. I love the bright and printed tops on you, they'll look fantastic with white bottoms. Now I see why Angie is so much more optimistic about tops this season! Great haul!

Mary, I am laughing so hard. This morning I asked hubby if my rear end looked good enough to wear those jeans with it showing (I wore outfit #1, but with a black blazer). I was very self-conscious. THANKS.

I never thought I'd be thanking someone whom I've never met for a compliment about my bootie made online. It's always good not to think TOO hard about what goes on here on YLF : )
