K/R Spring Outerwear

So, i seem to be on an outerwear kick…maybe because I’ve spent so much of the last 2 years outside, or maybe because its been such a weird spring, warmer in Feb than in April…
anyway, i ordered this coat in 2 colors from Karen Millen (on my iPad so can’t add finds)

My past experiences with this brand is that it ran smaller than US brands, especially across the chest, so i ordered a size larger than i would have in a similar priced coat from a US brand. (i have a coat from this brand that is about 10 YO and I ordered the same size as that coat)
anyway that’s a long way of saying, what do you think of the sizing on this coat? And while we’re at it, thoughts on the colors?
Obviously the first 2 pictures are from the website, the rest are me…and i apologize for the messy hair, i just got back from my Saturday errands to find the package had arrived, and this was my first try on.

Nice coat. This is totally biased, but I like the green. I generally do, but in this case I also prefer the lower contrast of the trim detail. Someone else might prefer the higher contrast of red and black!

Excellent fit to my eye! And personally I think I prefer the red on you, just seems to lift your complexion a bit more. Honestly both colours are good though, if you are choosing between them.

Nice fit with some room on the hip area ( slightly flared as a design I guess ). I prefer red on you since the details are much more visible and make the coat more special - nice find!

The coat looks like it was made for you. I prefer the red one but that could be because I would always choose a red over olive, LOL.

I really like that coat; can’t decide on the color. Just because I am one of those types who have to explore all possibilities, I am curious to see what a size down looks and feels like on you.

The green looks better to me because it somehow looks like it fits better. The shoulder line on the red looks too big, while the green appears more contoured to your shoulders. So I remain neutral on the color, but if these two are the same size, the green looks better. I think I'm with Donna, and I'd try a size down if I were you.

My preference is the green. I also feel it fits better at the shoulders and i feel I can see your face more clearly. It’s very snappy!

Hmm it's difficult to judge the shoulders since they have those 'wings' that jut out further than the shoulder line itself (a detail I often look for myself, as a pear shape!). So whilst I agree trying a size down couldn't hurt, I also think you *might* be able to get away with it in this style (i.e. if the size down ends up being too small elsewhere).

Otherwise the fit seems good on both! Like @Jenni, I think the red suits your colouring slightly more, but both work. Question is, do you feel the red or the olive will go with more of the existing clothing in your wardrobe?

I prefer the olive and think the fit is ok but possibly a tiny bit wide in the shoulders. Are you wearing it with your typical level of clothing (sweaters, etc.)? I might prefer the olive because the piping is less contrasted thus putting less emphasis on the width.

My first thought was that they look a little big on you. Especially the green. The way it kicks out at the back and hips. But I guess a lot depends on how much you want to layer underneath. Does it feel comfortable?

Colour wise, I prefer the red on you. But they both seem like versatile colours.

It looks a little large to my eye. The shoulders are hard to judge however the sleeves look a bit long and loose and overall, it looks a bit wide, however, I really like this style. I wonder If it can be altered a bit, or if it would be worth trying a size down. I prefer the red/maroon, it looks great with your skin and hair!

lol so the collective wisdom seems split, as am I. I would love to try the smaller size, but as is the problem with in line shopping, not sure I want to put another 2 weeks and the upfront costs into this. I deliberately tried this one with a light weight spring sweater, as I’d wear it that way about half the time.
Re the color, the olive green is more indicative of where my wardrobe is now, but the deep red definitely spoke to me.
I think I need to do another try on session.

I think this is such a great coat on you. I like coats to allow enough room to add an additional layer when weather demands. I am a solid vote for the red but this is purely personal preference.

Alittle bit large but not ridiculously so and a slightlyoversize fit is current this year.It depends how you feel about that.Both colours are nice but l feel in the photos the red is doing more for your complexion than the green.

I'd have liked to see both sizes size by side with the right layers underneath......to be sure.

I will go against the tide and say this looks like a lot of coat on you. Maybe that’s the sizing. But so much detail and sleeves look big. My eye wants to see a sleeker style, maybe less dressy. But not wanting to drive your car for things you want to explore.

The red is fantastic on you! Is this something that you would wear in winter over layers? If it's a spring coat I'd like to see the size down for comparison. The detailing is beautiful and I can see this working for your polished style!

So interesting that the color preferences is so split, with a slight edge to the red…i’m still undecided. I love the length, but it does feel slightly large…I’ve just finished my doing my taxes (which has put me in a mood), so I’m going to wait and try both on again tomorrow, and then make a decision
Re the weight of the coat, this is definitely a spring/fall coat for my climate, and I didn’t realize until i went back to the Karen Millen site, but it’s reversible, which I don’t think i would be doing with either color.

That’s funny about your taxes! We squandered a lot of Sunday afternoon (it’s already Monday afternoon here now) on getting tax documents ready for our accountant. While it was boring we felt good getting it done.
I know what you mean about the annoyance of ordering a different size to try- which is why I far prefer B&M shopping whenever I can.

I do like both - in terms of colour I would think about footwear and bags and make my decision there. Although I suspect both would work with a lot of similar colours.

I like the fit on you, the shoulders look good to my eye.

But it depends if your heart is in it - there always will be another.

Jenni NZ, I’m one of those people who doesn’t mind paying my taxes, but hate the doing of my taxes and always procrastinate, and since they are due this week and I’m going out of town, Sunday was do or die.

A great coat - but I think it would look better a size down and fit you more like the models in a smaller size. My vote is for the red coat.

I like the red on you for the reason Jenni says. I’m agnostic about the fit. It seems like a little room would make it more versatile in coke weather, in terms of layering.

Hmm, decisions, decisions! I like the fit from the front and sides (I like that little extended piece on the shoulder--it looks fab on you), but have you looked at the back view? At least for me, if something is a little large and belted and cut like this (A-line) there will be a lot of extra fabric back there that I find uncomfortable when seated, e.g., in the car.

I am surprising myself--since I'm a huge olive green fan--with really loving the red! I think it's because this shade of red is really hard to find, and the color plus the trim color looks really chic and a little bit different, vs. the olive, which seems a bit more standard, IYKWIM? So I guess it depends on what exactly you want, how you'd wear it, where it fits into your existing wardrobe, etc.
