K/R: someone else's HEWI (BR coat)

So, I was at BR doing a return, and just had to visit Una's HEWI citron coat. I'd been eyeing this online, but honestly thought it was probably more of a chartreuse than a citron... and I can't do chartreuse. I've also long admired Angie's citron coat, so was inspired by that. Plus outerwear was 50% off....

Here it is. #1 is off the rack, and I know it looks big. I did try the size down and it was way too tight across the shoulders. I have the complete opposite problem than Unfrumped just posted about - in order to fit my shoulders, the hips can get big. I really struggle when it comes to this classic style of coat, but would love one. Anyhoo.... I thought I'd take it home to look at. And I think that if I move the buttons just an inch, the coat fits me much better... see #2... and it still lies properly. And... it's exactly the same colour as my citron purse ie, it's citron, not chartreuse. Yay!

So, what do you think? Do you think this modification makes the fit okay? Is the colour ok on me? Or is it just too much citron to be seen in one place?

Hmmm. It does look like a lot of citron to me!

But show it styled as you would style it, okay? It's not fair to the coat to do otherwise.

Because the colour is really fun on you. And you love it and it might make your winter happier. So those are both in its favour.

I have no problem with it being too much. I've never had such a bright coat before, so its a bit of a stretch for me anyway. I do like the idea of some cheer in winter though.

But honestly I'm not a fan of the color (and that probably means this much of this color, as opposed to pops of it with other main colors) or the fit for you, unless you just are crazy for this color whether or not it's "your" color. I do thinkg the overlap-moving helps, but I probably would look for a style that takes advantage of your figure!

Meanwhile, my first order never arrived. I ordered a regular S and then was able to find a PM thanks to YLF - neither of those have arrived either!

It looks too big to me as well. I wonder if it is the proportions that are off for you. Perhaps the waist is too low for you. I don't mind the color and I am not a yellow person at all. go figure.

I like the color (those dramatic brights are great on you) , but I think it looks too big..

Thanks all. I have got a petite on hold at the store, will see how it fits tomorrow. I know going down a size is not right, so perhaps a petite will improve the proportions. In any case, I see what you are seeing, this is overwhelming.

I think threads like this are more useful than the ones with lots of "hits" and love. You guys rock!

I agree it is not quite right- your standard is very high Elizabeth with your recent stunning looks - my commenting has been a little erratic of late so I don't know if I have said that before.

It will be interesting to see if the Petite works - but I am intrigued, I always picked you as a taller person similar to my height - 5ft 8? Am I wrong?

Sally, I'm 5'6". And while I think there is nothing petite about me, I did discover when shopping for my wedding dress, that technically I am... I'm a bit short waisted. So with something somewhat fitted like this, it might make a difference. The arms on this feel long too. If not... Onward!

I vote pass because it really looks too large.

I am short waisted too so I can see that could help.

In NZ there are very few petites offered at all, and virtually no Talls either. So it is very challenging for some.

I'm 5'6" also and find most coats work better in a petite. It seems the sleeves are usually too long in the regular size. Like you, I'm also a tad short waisted -maybe that has something to do with it. Still it's weird as I don't normally don't wear petite in other clothing items. Hope the petite works for you!

This is a classic coat, and I would expect a more modern-looking one on you, using your summer style as a guide.

The pockets hang too low so the coat looks too big, E. I vote return since the smaller size did not work either.

Well.... knock me over with a feather. I just got back from BR, and the Petite fit me SO MUCH BETTER!! Who knew? LOL... well... several of you.

Unfortunately the one in the store had a small flaw in a rather prominent place, so I'm getting another one shipped from another store...should arrive at the end of the week. I'll post photos when it arrives.
