K/R Some more S/S purchases

Lots of white items here.
1. This is an Equipment shirt dress. I think I like it better than the dress in pic 2. which I ended up returning. I didn't like how the skirt part of the dress was falling, and even with adjusting the waist, I couldn't get it right.
The Equipment dress is sleeveless and in pics it looks boxy, but it's made of silk so when it moves it does show my figure. The sandals are Anyi Lu.
2. Returned Dress

3. Kate Spade Shirt Dress - I kind of like this one but wonder if it's so quirky that it will sit in the closet? What do you think?

4. This pic is for the Nic and Zoe skirt. I wanted a swishy skirt that didn't flare too much around my hips. What about this one? The belt is new, Suzi Roher. I like it a lot but maybe not with this Ace Delivery Chambray shirt. It might work better with a different top.

5. Vince Sheath. Very simple. Very very simple.

6-9. This is an Eileen Fisher top worn several ways. It is fairly sheer and has an interesting back which I tried to photograph, but didn't do the greatest job. My friends thought it would look better with white underneath so I tried it in photo 9. Is this too boxy for me?

10/11. A fitted white Eli Tahari shirt with some mesh and sheer sleeves, which might not show well in the photo due to lighting. The shoes are leather sneakers by Candice Cooper.

12. A white Eileen Fisher tunic dress, it's sheer and has a criss cross pattern on it.

13-16. Two jean jackets. I already returned the one with the white buttons, and I kept the one with the silver buttons. I'm still not sure I love that one either. What do you think? I included pics of both so you can see what they look like. I don't think I look great in a jean jacket, but I wanted one to wear with dresses, and sometimes with jeans. These are cropped length.

Pic 17 is my Eddie Bauer jean jacket which I've had for years and years. I love how this one fits but I can never figure out how to wear it. Clearly this wasn't a good choice. I included the pic for comparison with the other jean jackets.

Nice haul! My absolute faves are #'s 5 and 10. Love how clean and crisp they feel, that sheath dress fits you so well!

Can I ask the brand of the white shirt in #10 and what store it is from? Is it local?

Quick impressions: I'm not blown away by the dresses in 1-3. 1 is better than the one you returned -- it's nice but something seems a little meh about it. I can understand that it's better in motion. I have a bit of poison eye for the dropped and gathered waist in 3, but putting that aside, I'm not sure I'm digging the proportions -- it makes you look very long-torsoed, almost like it's too long in the top.

Skirt in 4 is nice. LOVE the dress in 5 on you. I also like the sheer white top very much. LOVE the top in 10. 12 is OK, but it looks a little thin and like it will stay wrinkled -- are you OK with the slight RATE vibe? It doesn't slay me like the other dress does, but I get that it's a totally different vibe. And I prefer the slightly shorter white denim jacket for you.

I like 5 and 10 also. I don't have the hood eye for dresses over leggings so those confuse me.
I think the white Jean jackets over the longer tops + pants work on you better than with dresses. Looks more modern somehow and also the kind of white- out works. I think Jean jackets are hard to style sometimes without looking frumpy, for me. Something about the collars, often.

Janet, I am not sure about the wrinkle factor of the sheer white EF dress. I tried it on right out of the box without steaming it so it has some large creases. The cross hatch pattern is a texture that might make wrinkles less obvious. I will steam it today and see what happens if I wear it around the house. I generally don't have a RATE vibe so the creases would bother me.

Unfrumped, thanks for your input. I agree that maybe it's something about the collars of jean jackets. I always turn them up, because they look awful down when I wear them. I also wonder about the proportions and boxiness of them. If they don't hit at exactly the correct place for the outfit you are wearing they look funny to my eye.

I'm not crazy about #1 - 3, #4 I think I would like the skirt better if you were wearing heels, and #5 is WOW super gorgeous.

#6 - #9 are all winners, but I like the EF top best worn with a pop of color underneath. Super fun that way!

That fitted shirt in #10-11 is beautiful for you. Did you try a size smaller? Either way, I love it on you and now I want one too.

I like the white jacket with the gray buttons, I think the length of it looks good on you. I have several denim jackets that get a lot of wear as they are perfect for spring/fall/cooler summer nights. They can be tricky to wear depending on their length. When they hit on the hips they tend to be less flattering than when they hit just at or above the hips.

i like the skirt in #4, but i'm wondering how sheer it is...i'm assuming that this is a work as well as play skirt, so i'm just checking it if will work on a sunny summer day. love #5, wow, it fits like it was made for you. the eileen fisher white top (#6-#9) is great, i love it with the denim skirt!
#1-3 & #12, i'll be honest, of this grouping, i like #2, the dress you returned best. there is something about the waist in #3 that seems "off", its kind of bulky and i wonder if the elastic will start to bunch up.
l agree with unfrumped, i like the way you have the denim jackets styled with the jeans....if you want to try a denim jacket with a dress, maybe try both the blue and the white one with the vince dress.

5 and 11 are my favorites. I like the blue Equipment print a lot on you but don't adore either dress.

KKards, The skirt in pic 4 is lined so I'm not that worried about it being see through. I can test it on a sunny day if we ever get one!

Karie, I thought about whether I should try a smaller version of the blouse in pic 10 also. I'm not sure if it would fit in the shoulders. I might order it and see.

UmmLila, I also like the print of the Equipment dress. i looked to see if they had anything else in that print but they don't. Maybe I could have out tailor make it shorter, so it's more of a tunic length and then I could wear it with jeans. I think the length is awkward which is why I wore it with leggings.

My absolute fav on you is the Vince sheath. Wow. And I think the white jean jacket looks fabulous. Otherwise I must say my comments pretty much mirror what Janet already said. The dropped waist dress in 3 looks a bit too "twee" for your refined style, but that's just MHO. It could be a wildcard.

Jackiec, I appreciate your feedback. It's looking again like sheath dresses are my thing. Maybe I should be sticking with them when I hunt for dresses?! Looking again at my pics, I have to agree with you and Janet, the Kate Spade dress looks twee, and it distorts my shape in odd ways. It's not flattering at all.

I'm still looking for variety in my dresses if possible, so If anyone has any good dress silhouette suggestions for me, I would be interested.

Echoing others on the sheath dress. I have that dress in black; didn't know it came in white but now I want! Looks gorgeous on you. I'm not a fan of shirt dresses, so not a good person to weigh in on those. I'd like the skirt in #4 without the belt, though not sure what I'd offer up as an alternative suggestion. I love 6 and 7 (prefer a colour contrast under that top), but like the short-over-long look in 9. I'm not a fan of the EF dress on you -- I'm rather disappointed in the quality and cut of recent EF items, actually. Finally, I prefer the jean jackets with pants; not liking them as much with the dress.

Thanks Aliona, I am going to take a good look at that white EF dress. I haven't owned much EF before, so I have a hard time knowing about a change in the quality, but it is very sheer.

I saw the black Vince dress when I ordered the white dress from Nordstrom. I have a charcoal version of this dress from the fall. It's a heavier weight but the same cut.

I think you have some very beautiful outfits and not just the outfits but the figure to pull them through.
That white dress is very elegant and suits you very nicely.
The top in 10-11 is very nice, will you be wearing it at work? Something about it reads too serious to me, maybe a bit intimidating for work? Please excuse me for saying this and I may be wrong but that is how it reads to me.

Joyce B, thanks for your observations especially about the white blouse. I have to think about its intimidation factor. There are times at work when a more serious look can come in handy, but I wouldn't want that to be so overwhelming that my genuine nature didn't come through.

That sheath dress in #5 is absolutely stunning on you. WOW. What I also love is the way it doesn't appear too "uptight" on you, somehow. Sheath dresses often come across as impossibly formal but not this. It looks relaxed, like a great crossover piece. I adore it and hope you will keep.

I also love that open weave EF sweater, styled all the ways you show it (and probably many more). And I'm keen on the denim jacket you decided to keep. I wear my white denim with silver buttons quite a lot in summer. Mine is extremely inexpensive; it comes from the KIDS' department at Old Navy!! It goes over a dress or one of my Vince Camuto tube skirts, or over full skirts, or over jeans with an untucked top as you are wearing here.

I really like the pattern of the Equipment silk tunic/ dress in 1 and far prefer it to either of the other two dresses.

If you are looking for dress variety, I would suggest two things:

Keep trying shirt dresses; you may not have found your perfect one yet, but it's out there.

Consider tube skirts with tops as a dress alternative. It's a little bit different than a sheath -- less formal -- but also doable.

You'd also wear a halter type neck with high collar (I think Angie calls them Armani collars) with a slight blouson really well. I am not as tall and slender as you are, but any dress style that will work on me would look fantastic on you. I'll try to look up a few options.

Also look at Karie's dresses. She has one structured fit and flare dress that works like a charm on her. You can do sleeveless well, which helps a lot.

Oh, I meant to say that I adore the top in 10/11 and the Elie Tahari things I own are such lovely quality with impeccable detailing. I would wear this myself for appearances or at times when I wanted to make a statement just with a top.

I do like both white jean jackets, too., so guess it is down to how it fits and feels on you.

I love the white sheath (perfect fit!), the open-back EF sweater (I was actually thinking about knitting something similar!), and the Tahari shirt (I'm not a white shirt girl at all but even I want yours). The white denim jacket looks nice too. I love mine as a topper over dresses in particular and I never wear it with jeans, so maybe that's how you might prefer to wear yours too?

The dresses. I'm not wild about any of them. I don't love that dropped waist look of 2 and 3, and the gathered front on 3 just confuses me. Is it elastic? #1 is OK but doesn't wow me. I think maybe I prefer shirt dresses with sleeves and more prominent collars (like more "structure" from the shape even with a soft fabric). (How I prefer my shirts too). I also prefer when the button plackets go all the way down (even if they are not functional).

The white skirt is nice but seems a little too boho for your style?

My thoughts are pretty much in line with everyone else, but I have to put in a big thumbs up for the white sheath and the EF sweater with the swing back. Definite 10/10 on both those. I also have soft spot for the quirkiness of the Kate Spade. It's one of those JFE pieces that could be fun to wear if you are drawn to it; it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but that's sometimes part of the appeal.

I don't like 1 - 4 on you for the all the reasons mentioned above.
the Sheath dress looks fab - If I found a dress that fit me that well and made me look that great I would have it in every color I could get my hands on.
The EF top is great
The white shirt looks great but I wonder is it a bit big
The white EF dress would drive me insane - i have not a stitch of RATE in me. Not polishing my shoes is as RATE as I get. So Im not helpful because I can't get past that with it.
The White jean jacket rocks - I have one that is my workhorse in the summer.

Agree that the Vince sheath is the show stopper here. I like the EF sweater with the skirt also. The tunic in #10 has potential too. You look good with clean lines and non-fussy fabric.

I think you have made a good assessment of what is working and what is not. I really like the sheath dress; that style is a no-brainer for you, as others have said. The Eileen Fisher top is lovely, and will be very versatile in your wardrobe. I think your white jean jacket looks good, too, as does your older one (11). The only piece I'm not keen on is the dress (3), but I think you are having second thoughts on that one, also.

Suz, I like the idea of halter style dresses. I may have tried a Vince Camuto Tube skirt in the past but was unsure how to style it so I sent it back. I might try again and look up some pics.
