K/R: Skirts (Plus Tunic WIW)

After I JUST said I felt pretty set for summer, I went into Target for a new mirror and came out with these two skirts.

They’re a lightweight cotton/linen blend, and feel like they might be lovely spring/summer workhorses, but I’m still undecided.

Skirt 1 (pics 1-2): white with black stripes. Different for me, but feels pretty and floaty.

Skirt 2 (pics 3-4): Black. Same button-down midi style. I’m on the fence about this. I really like it, but I do already have a black skirt that I’ve only worn 3x.

That one is shown in pic 5. It’s a little better-made and has pockets, but it’s also tight on the waist (these two have a small elastic panel at back that accommodates weight fluctuations) AND, this is the biggie, that’s the skirt I wore to my mom’s funeral. I just can’t seem to get past that baggage.

What do y’all think?

Just for fun, I also included a WIW in the last pic. Layered tunics!

Well! I really like them both! Style is great for you.

The black one works amazingly under the new fantastic coat. But if you have enough other options for that column of colour, it might make sense to save pennies for another item.

The striped one is a bit of a departure in terms of pattern and is lighter than bottoms I've seen you wear. If you get some super hot weather, it seems like a contender to me. If you don't get much of that kind of weather, you might prefer a darker option.

Can you pattern mix with this one, too? Other topper/ top options?

I should add that these skirts were $23 each, so not really breaking the bank.

I like both skirts. I would get rid of the black skirt you already own. If you're like me, you'll never get past that baggage. If you only want to keep one, I think maybe the light one since it's more summery.

A few more options with the striped skirt. I would probably wear it with just a silk tank 99% of the time, though.

Yeah, I get it -- sometimes it doesn't matter whether you can remix! But you could wear it with light tanks or dark and that's the main thing. Really, the question is whether it feels sufficiently "you" -- I think it looks great! And seems practical, too.

Prefer the striped one to the all black version (I like the way the subtle stripe lightens up the volume of the skirt) but I also prefer the possible/new black skirt to the preexisting one--the buttons down the front are a nice detail and it seems more flattering as well--it appears to be more of an A-line/gored construction and less pleated/gathered?

Ditto what Emily said. My fav is the striped option, but if you're wondering if you ought to replace #5 with #3, I'd say yes. It's a bit more flattering with the way it sits and the longer length.

I vote: Keep them both. They look comfortable as well as stylish and can be very versatile summer skirts. I like the summery look of #1. I also like the black skirt styled with the black top and various toppers. However, for a more summery look, I suggest styling the black skirt with sandals instead of cowboy boots.

I think they could both work for more than summer depending how you style them and they both look good on you.
If it was me, I’d probably still hang on to 5, too. But that’s just me. These new ones look like versatile winners.

I like them both too, with a preference for the lighter skirt. I find black skirts are easy to come by but interesting lighter coloured skirts aren’t. I like your stylings!

I understand that the skirt you wore at your mother's funeral might be linked wit heavy emotional baggage. So I suggest that you "park" it in a holding zone and start wearing the new black skirt instead.

Personally, I have always loved "button-down-skirts"--to me, they look "lighthearted" in an elegant way and have retro vibes.

The Cat, I would definitely wear the black skirt with sandals too. I just got tired of changing shoes.

Right now, I’m leaning towards returning the white. I’m not sure a light skirt is compatible with my lifestyle.

I quite like the striped one, surprising myself. This is really cool on you. I vote keep them both, and fold up the black skirt you wore to your mom's funeral and put it away ...or if you feel up to it and won't wear it, donate it. I finally got rid of the dress I wore 2 years ago to the service for my mom, so I know how this goes. I felt a bit merciless, but I wasn't going to wear it again, so.....

I really like the striped one for spring/summer and because I'm into lighter colors right now. If you like to wear black often I think the black option is also great - at the price, I'd probably keep both.

I'm going to keep the black one. Still thinking on the stripes, as it's a bit out of my comfort zone. In its favor, it looks really great, in every combination, when topped off with my summer hat.

I thought about it overnight and realized--instead of the dress I was thinking about, these could be my summer WAH uniform, which would give them a solid place in my wardrobe, so long as I have the right tops. I'm happy with my black ones, and have been planning to add a cream silk tank when I find the right one, so I think I'm sorted!

The white skirt is... white, and I don't have Angie's superpower but...so what? It's inexpensive and washable, so no need to be precious.

I think they both really look terrific! I can see you wearing them both very regularly. The stripes are a bit different for you, but not overwhelmingly so. It's not wild, bold stripes.

I think they’ll make great wfH outfits.

smittie, lol! I'm sure the stripes will help, but it still makes me nervous. I work with pastels and they get on everything! Today, my husband thought I'd been punched because I had purple pastel on my face.

I'm fascinated that so many of you love the stripes. I find anything white really difficult to wear because I don't wear optic whites, and natural white is hard to match properly.
