I have heard pencil skirts may be on the way out, just as I was discovering them!

None of these are ponte knit nor are they stretchy.

#1&2 are a burgundy crepe.
#3 Is textured chocolate color
#4 is a deep pretty green wool flannel skirt. Is not lined.
#5 is a berry colored skirt, it is also not lined

None of them have that taper inward that my Ann Taylor skirts do. I am just not sure any are great enough to stay.

I think pencil skirts can become less trendy than they are now without becoming dated or anything like that - they are so classic - especially for dressy business casual.

I think you're right about these, though - a pencil that tapers inward looks cooler and is more flattering, as long as you can still walk. The wrap shirts from here and your other post, on the other hand, are great!

I really like the first one! Thistle, you should try tapering the hems with your hand (pull back the side seams in the mirror) to see if you prefer that silhouette. You might not, you know

I know what you mean about skirts tapering, but I also completely agree with Angie's advice on this (uuuuh, well, no surprise there, since she's the expert after all). I strongly prefer my pencil skirt tapered BUT that's because they help me create a curvier figure. You may find that for figure flattery, you actually prefer a straighter skirt. I'll be interested to hear!

Also, as a lifelong pencil skirt wearer, I have to weigh in that I feel like they are trendier sometimes and less so at others, but they always seem to be acceptable. I can't think of a time that I've felt like they were dated. However, there are definitely times when they are not the first thing that I reach for. I'll be reaching for mine for the next couple of years, so we can be pencil skirt twins together even if no one else is joining us!

I personally don't like them tapered and feel like they over emphasize hips. i however do love a straight cut pencil skirt!

I took a look in the mirror, and I think you are right! The taper really, really emphasizes the one spot I do not want emphasized!

Hmmm, have to think some more on these.

I actually like the berry and green best! I think for the work environment, pencil skirts are a mainstay, and the silhouette you're choosing is classic.

I especially love the green one.

Since they all look great, I'm again thinking of coordination (going by your jacket and top threads), so I'd vote out the brown --- not as good with those two jacket colours as the first one here or the green or berry. Also, it is harder to wear with the blue top you have on here.

Think #1 and #4 are the most versatile of the lot, and the berry works well too with the jackets (though you might want different tops, apart from the fab white, of course).

Yes I think the proportions are quite nicely balanced as is. You look especially pretty in #1, those wrap tops are great and I like the lighter colour on top/near your face - can't wait to see your new coat with a light scarf.
Did you keep the red AT skirt I think you had at one point? If so I would probably go with burgundy rather than berry.

ManidipaM - now that you mention it, I have very little brown in my closet. I had originally bought it because of that, but thinking on it, this skirt would require high brown boots to wear in winter. Boots I do not have. Thanks for pointing that out! I really, really need to get better at creating capsules!

I thought that might be the case, Thistle :). You look AMAZING in that first pencil skirt, and FWIW, it has my blessing.

Pencil skirts are a classic - some a little more modern than others. As long as our classics are regularly updated - we are in good style shape.

Burgundy one is defintely staying. The brown one I returned today. The green and berry ones I think I need to play in my closet a bit and see what I can do with them.

I love that J Crew Skirt! Probably would never wear that much pattern on the bottom though.
