K/R: size S Michael Michael Kors agate blue dress (XS/M comparison)

OK, you know I can be really obsessive and picky and persistent about getting my clothes exactly right. (I have two of the three P's down, although I am not very patient!) I'll go to great lengths to track something down, and order multiple sizes to compare.

I really liked Rae's Michael Michael Kors agate dress, but sadly they didn't have a size S available, so I ordered a M instead. Well, it felt a little baggy and loose on top, so I ordered the XS to compare since it's a stretchy dress. Whoops, way too short! (I'm not into the mini look!)

I thought I was out of luck with this dress, but I found and bought a MMK turquoise graphic print faux wrap dress instead (13), which I really love. But then browsing one day, I noticed that there was suddenly one size S available again at 6pm (must have been a return). So I snapped it up. What do you think? Is S the right size for me? Is it worth keeping, or is it too similar to my other MMK turquoise print dress? I still really like this agate dress, it reminds me of a swimming pool or the Florentine swirly paper patterns.

I prefer the length on the M since I'm used to midi skirts (the S is a few inches above the knee) but I think the fit on the S is better on top--much less droopy and the knot sits higher on my waist. I have relatively fewer spring/summer dresses so I think I could wear both, as long as you think #1 and #13 aren't too similar. Plus they would go with my turquoise KS pumps if I decide to keep those! And it was on sale too!

What do you think--keep the size S, size M, or return because it's too similar to the other dress? Do you think the size S is too short on me to wear to work?

I think the size S looks the best! Very pretty colour on you I can't say whether you should send it back just on the basis that it's somewhat similar to #13. Depends on how many dresses you like to have in rotation.

#1 is the right one - the others do not hang correctly on you but #1 looks really nice.

You seem to have a knack for finding dresses with gorgeous draping (BTW, I ordered the dress in #13 based on your photos ). I think size S in agate dress looks really good. Do you feel like both dresses will get enough wear this summer (based on your weather etc.)?

The S is infinitely better than the M; the fit difference are really highlighted in your photos. The S does not look too short for work, but you know how much you move, bend over, squat, etc. and what it does to the length. It is really amazing the differences in wearing length of the three dresses.

The blue is so beautiful on you in color and style that I hope you keep it. I like how you styled it with the nude shoes and the patterned dress with the black shoes. That alone gives the two dresses different vibes.

Oooh. I love the size S. To me it feels different enough from the other dress, so it's really all down to whether you think you'll get your wear from it.

Is this the dress you have a WIW with, the one with the yellow Donney bag? Angie pinned the dress on pinterest, I'm not sure if you know. If this is the same dress, I would keep whatever size you had on for that picture.

Zap, the one in #13 is the one that Angie pinned--that was my WIW from before. This other one is a new one that I'm debating.

Thanks everyone! Looks like it's unanimous--the S is the best fit. Yes, I was surprised there was so much difference in length between the sizes too. I think I will be able to wear them both--even though they're similar in color I do think they have slightly different vibes with the different patterns and necklines.

Makrame--so excited that we'll be dress twins! I can totally see you in the mod print dress. They are both sooo comfy and easy to wear.

I see, sorry the two dresses are so similar, I was confused. I'm looking at the pics via my cell.

I love the S! If you think you will wear it and the other one, the by all means I vote "keep!"

The thing is, I can't wait to rip the tags off this one and wear it too! So that says something! I love them both!

Oh no, I'm so bad at reading the post details. I gotta get better at it. Well, in that case, yes, I think they are very similar. If you think you'll wear both I don't see the harm. I mean, I have the same skirts and pants in different colors.

Overall I think the S fits best, but how do you feel about the "boob trough" that's going on ;)? I really love the older dress on you (#13), FWIW.

Hmmm Jonesy, you're right. I think I'm going to have to put it on again and see if that is still there or not! Boob trough, LOL!

FWIW, although it is a nice dress on you, I do find it very similar to the #13 dress. I historically would buy half a dozen iterations of a certain item in the past before I realized I had x number of floral dresses, or bootcut jeans or whatever in my closet. If this is not an issue for you, enjoy. But if it is a concern, perhaps keep looking.

It's something I frequently notice with necklines like that...sorry to be a wet blanket! And obviously I'm the only one who noticed, so it's probably just something that I see :).

Guess I'm in there with the trenches with GP, then, because I own a TON of stuff that drapes like this.

The S fits best, GP, but only you can decide if the dress is making you feel fab. Go with your gut!

It's not the draping..it's the "trough" or horizontal indentation on her chest, below the neck draping. Sometimes this can happen when a shirt is too tight (I actually remember this as being considered "sexy" back in the '70s, a la Farrah Fawcett), but I've also had it happen with draped necklines like this one on tops that aren't too tight.

Go for S in MMK and love the dress in 13

OK I put it on again and it does do the boob trough about half of the time but other times not. I still think the S fits best. I'll see what DH thinks of the dress. Thanks!

I'm sorry I just don't like the fabric or the mega draping on you at all. You have lots of other dresses with structure that are better for you. A dress with no structure just doesn't do you justice.
