In my Style Goals for 2016 http://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/style-2016, I laid out my plan to work toward a wardrobe that allows for movement throughout the day. I also plan to invest energy into developing my style persona, rather than simply aiming for a well functioning, updated wardrobe. As part of this shift, I'm exploring chic, but practical retro touches, focusing on the 1930s.

I really see "retro" as rather fluid and inspirational -- more like representing an archetype -- a kind of woman who, much like Doctor Who, (my son and I watch together) can move forward and back in time (if only!) Many of our style icons, past and present, have this quality. What would Ines de la Fressange have worn during the 1890s? What would the Hepburns, Audrey or Katharine, be wearing today? I think the core of their style would cross decades with ease.

Last Autumn, I knew that my transitional footwear would need refreshing -- particularly casual and smart casual shoes to span between boot and sandal seasons! I'm quite serious about dressing in a way that I could walk the neighborhood, or through a nearby park, without dressing in head to toe gear. I don't have serious feet problems, but I do need some cushioning, and a fit that accommodates a higher volume foot.

1-3: Bzees comfort sneaker (similar in the Finds). Are kinda fugly in an endearing way or shall I keep looking? These are far more cushy and comfy than the slightly retro Ecco or Joseph leather versions with a similar shape, and can be worn without socks. I just don't want to look like I've "given up." I felt a bit like that with last season's Skechers. I do think the shape and visual weight of the shoe works with my foot and leg, and I like the low contrast fabric with a bit of sheen.

4-5: I'm not a loafer person. However, the vibrant color (more a burnt orange, or tomato) is vibrant, fun, and extremely comfy. The loafer does fit into a retro feeling (although more 50's prep, ala Kate Hepburn, and not 30s). I don't have orange in my wardrobe, but I do have lots of navy, chambray, cobalt, and white. I'd use these as an accent color. I'm unlikely however, to, say, buy a tomato tee. These shoes have a luxe casual look and feel, but are they for me?

6. A bonus: These Keds Coursa sneakers were on clearance. I need to replace my Cons, and I want something with a similar feel, but more comfort, and a bit more ladylike silhouette. These are comfy, and stike me as a what would happen if Con and Ked Champion had a baby. I like the taupe and navy trim at the base.

I do want to add a lighter colored oxford to my wardrobe this Spring, but I didn't see anything suitable at DSW. Should I pass on the loafer, in favor of an oxford? It is possible I could have both, but I'd need to keep my loafer in the 50-60 dollar range.
