K/R: Several more dresses

In my other dress post, many people questioned whether the handkerchief hem dress was really me. So I ordered some more dresses, all from Macy’s, in one of their many sales. I do not need this many dresses!! But I would like a few dresses for events that typically come up.
1-3. This dress is very casual, and I love the pattern and colors. It looks less flattering in pictures than I thought, though.
4-6. I had very high hopes for this dress. I was disappointed that it’s a little snug. It’s sold out now, so either this size is okay or not.
7-9. This dress seems too short to me, plus the sleeves are a too much.
10-12. This dress fits pretty well, I think.
13-15. This dress might work with leggings in cool weather. The band around the neck seems too large, but maybe I’d get used to that.

What do you think of these? Your honest opinion is appreciated.

I like the polka dot dress the best - and quite a lot - and it looks like a good fit to me . I don’t see any evidence of smugness or bra outline etc. The other dresses don’t wow me - although 10-12 has a vintage appeal .

I like the polka dot dress as to me it is the most flexible from casual to dressy. You say it's a bit snug though so if it's not perfect and comfortable I would send it back.
I read your comments after looking at the photos and had to laugh because as soon as I saw #13-15 I thought "oh that would be great with leggings and booties"!

I like the polka dress the best too, and it doesn't look to snug to me. I do like the first one as well, and understand the appeal of a casual dress like that. Pretty back view.

My least faves are 7 and 13. The first works as a causal dress. When I looked through, I thought the dresses with a bit more structure 10 and 4 suit you best. I can’t speak to how 4 feels, if it seems snug, will you want to wear it in summer? My favorite fit is 10.

ETA - I could see the last as a fall dress with the appropriate supporting acts.

I like the first 2 a lot. The polka dot dress fit looks OK from the front, but it might be a little tight at the back? The sleeveless floral dress is cute but I would prefer a moody floral (but that's me of course!). The other dresses don't look like "you" - to me anyway.

I agree that the polka dot dress is a keeper and I like #1, too.

This is wonderful! Remember when Sally did a similar dress try-on a few years' back? It's so instructive to see a variety of styles on the same person.

My personal favourite is also the polka dot for its modern retro appeal. But you say it does not fit well? The only place I can notice any potential issue is the back, where there seems to be extra folds of fabric or some pulling. But it is hard to tell whether that's just because of your pose to take the picture. What is the dress made from?

Dress #1 has potential as a very hot weather item if you have a need for such a thing -- depending of course on what it is made from.

I'm the outlier (so far) because I kind of love 7-9. I'm imagining it with a cute low heeled slingback and some dangling earrings. Very Laugh-In mod. I'd wear that dress in a heartbeat! And I think it looks good on you. But it's a real party kind of dress.

I agree that the fit of the floral is lovely but it looks straight on vintage. Which is fine, if that's the look you want, but it seems a bit out of your style wheelhouse. I think you can do better than the last one for the purpose you name.

I prefer both of the ones in your last post to the polka dot or 10-12. The polka dot does seem a bit snug through the back. 1-3 is fine, if you need something super casual and loose, but I think you can do better. I’m with Suz on 7-9. If you have somewhere to wear it, then keep it! It’s definitely a wild card. 13-15 is also Ok, but I think you could probably find something better. I agree that the neckline could be more flattering.

Fun! My favorites are 1 -3and 4-6. 10-12 is lovely for spring. I like 13-15 and wish it were a tiny bit longer.

#10 to 12 - KILLER slam dunk. WOW fit. LOVE.

#1 to 3 is perfect for hot non-sunny weather with no a/c. Looks great.

Polka dot frock I fear is too snug around the bust, arm and back. I love the vibe on you though. I vote return the rest, and keep the other two dresses from an earlier thread too.

1 and 2 are my faves. The easy style of 1 make it look like a great warm weather casual dress. Seems like you could make dress it up or down. Love the dotted dress--the fit/length is perfect. The mod dress is fun. The print is gorgeous and the fit is good. Is this a summer dress in your climate? The floral fits well but I'm not crazy about the print. It reads more conservative than I'm used to seeing you in. The tie dye dress is nice--I could see it with tall boots in the fall. Great to see you in all of these dresses. I love dress posts!

Polka dot is hands-down my favourite, followed by the vintage-y floral (#10). #1 looks like a fine summer-casual dress so keep if you like the pattern and it fills a wardrobe hole. Not loving the proportions or fabrication on #7 and #13.

I agree with those above who say the polka dot dress does look too snug. Since you also feel it's snug on, I'd send it back - but it's a great style for you, for sure.

#10 is a keeper! I also like the first one, because sometimes we need a loose JFE dress to throw when it's very hot. But it depends on whether you feel comfortable with it being JFE.

I agree you can send the rest back.

First of all, I want to thank you all for your thoughtful comments. I know looking at fit and color in small pictures can be hard. So I appreciate you taking the time to look at these dresses and offering your opinions.

My favorite, the grey polka dot one, definitely feels snug. I plan to stalk it, but I don’t have high hopes. However, you never know. The first one is rayon and spandex. Is rayon comfy in hot weather? I do live in a dry climate, though. The flowered one fits in with my pink complement. As for it looking vintagey, I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, for my style. I’ll have to think it over. I’m also having second thoughts about 7-9. Maybe it would make a good party dress. I have a lot to think about.

I like the first one as a comfy casual dress. I also really like the last one - that's right up my alley and I would wear it all winter long. Too bad the polka dot one is too snug because I like how it looks on you. The floral one is very flattering but the pattern isn't my favorite. Patterns are so subjective though that my opinion shouldn't count for much.

I am a fan of 7-9 and would totally wear it. The shorter length showing your great legs adds to the nice shoulder and neckline structure. I love the sleeves! Might multitask as a tunic over black or white skinnies or even crops

I agree the polka dot looks good on you. And also the Floral dress.

Florals are all about having fun with fashion and embracing the joy and romance of spring. Perhaps this is why the floral trend is one that just won’t go away.

I love polka dots so am a huge fan of that dress! And to me it looks like it fits perfectly! But if it’s not comfortable enough I guess it’s best to return. If you don’t like the one with the big sleeves I think you should return it. All others I think are ok, but polka dots is most wow! I quite like the first as a casual summer dress too.

Many opinions here. FWIW, I say keep the first one. Great summer casual dress which could be dressed up with sparkly jewelry and metallic sandals, or stay casual with leather sandals and straw bag. The floral is pretty and looks like it fits well, so keep it if you like florals and it feels like you. I also say the polka dot looks too small, and for some reason a bit dated to me.

I’m wondering if you have found that the pink belt on the light blue floral dress is removable. I like the dress but not the belt. Belt seems a bit narrow for an adult and veers too much into costume territory for my taste. I think a slightly wider and more textured belt would be nicer on you. I think that all of the dresses look nice on you. You don’t seem as physically comfortable in the last dress so I’m thinking maybe it doesn’t have enough structure for your style?

My favorite is 7-9. I see what LisaP means by the bad pattern matching on the back, but that doesn’t bother me too much. The dress fits you well and of all the choices I think it’s the most flattering. it’s a fresh modern look that stands out in a positive way. It stands out from the crowd but it isn’t garish, or attention seeking in a way that will draw gawking stares. It just looks great. The polka dot dress looks tight in the arm holes in front. There’s subtle pulling and puckering under your arms. I bet it feels snug and not too comfy. Is it something that would stretch a bit over time? If so, maybe it’s worth keeping, but my inclination would be to try a larger size and alter the dress, or to pass and keep looking. I can see the appeal of the first dress which several people have said might be okay for very hot days. I might pass up that dress and find one that fills that need if it exists but also brings you great happiness. There’s nothing better than a favorite loose summer dress on a hot day! Why settle for something less than.....

Thank you for your thoughts. The polka dot dress has not come back into stock. It feels too body con rather than physically uncomfortable, although definitely too snug.

The pink belt is removable and I have a wider and paler pink belt that I could use on the flowered dress. Although it fits very well, I’m not sure if I love it or how it looks on me. We’re having hot weather this week and I have an event I could wear it to, so I should hurry up and decide. My feet dragging might be my decision..

Yes, feet dragging should indeed be considered a decision. It doesn’t matter if it takes a good picture if you don’t feel your best in it. Only you know the right choices for your life.
