K/R scarf - YouLookFab Forum

So I'm a bit embarrased that I just whined on this forum about being out of the shopping groove and already I'm back, presenting you with a K/R question... let's not go there, pretty please?
So this scarf, I ordered online because of the pretty unique watercolor effect and it being a perfect transitional cotton weight. I was looking for something in shades of blue too. Now it has arrived, and it's brighter than I imagined. Not sure if it's too bright with my coloring... I'd wear with navy, white and black, as a statement. I have plenty of versatile scarves, and am aware this one would only come out once in a while. But the pattern does make me happy...

This is beautiful on you and such a great scarf to wear with dark colours. It really brings out the colour in your eyes and is not too bright for your colouring. I love it on you.

I would not say it is too bright. It is not an obvious tonal match with your colouring, but it’s also not clashing. Somewhere in the neutral middle.
I’m going to be honest and say that the bit of greyish brown on the left looks ‘dirty’ compared to the other clean colours in the scarf itself, which bugs *me*. It doesn’t literally look dirty, to be clear! I’d lay the scarf out with the items you plan to wear with it and see how they work.

Jules: I did hold it next to possible outfits, and it does work. You are right to suggest that kind of test-drive. I actually like the bit of 'dirty' taupe in there, though the taupe may not like me back as much as it used to (before my hair got a reddish tone which I amped up with my copper toned specs frames :)).

I love it, and I think it looks really nice on you. Not too bright at all. My experience with scarves like this is that you can wrap or arrange them a little differently to show (or hide) whichever parts of the pattern you most like, depending on what you’re wearing with it.

Just to mirror your own wise advice to me back to you: do you feel like this falls into the "androgynous neutrals" category that you identify with? Hard to say without seeing it fully styled in an outfit, but I think it might be much cooler than your typical palette (and also more organic in its vibe than what you usually reach for)? That might be ok (a scarf is a good place to play with shadow styles!), but something to keep in mind!

Janet, that is definitely true.
Notsaf: you are right, it's not in my main style persona :). But I do have a strong love (more than a shadow persona) for moody and complex colors & prints. Though not sure if this still qualifies as moody.

I do see it as moody. It has a good bit of white in it, but I quite like the effect on you. I also gravitate towards darker/moodier colors and prints, but a little lightness in a print can be brightening in a good way. I think this may blend with your palette while adding a subtle lift in tone. Try it with one of your navy/neutral outfits and take full-length photos to see how it works.

I bet it’s great with white too — like a white top and navy or dark jacket? It will help to ease the high contrast and pull the colors together.

Very pretty, as are you. Although I'm not a fan of cotton scarves, I love the sophistication of this pattern - and icy coolness of the vibe.

So many lovers, I guess I'll have to keep :). And if Lisa finds it sophisticated, who am I to say no!
You're right Janet: it's potential to soften high contrast looks (I do wear ink and white often, like my shoes, thanks for the reminder Angie) is another plus!

You had me at watercolor, my favorite type of print. Keep. It brightens you up but the taupe keeps it grounded.

You guys have totally convinced me I need this scarf :). Glad that fellow neutral lovers are into it too. So keep it is. I'm planning on joining team wear next week when it will be hot and I need some summery layers to withstand the AC. I know just the outfit!
