K/R: Ryan vs Avery

I am still trying to replace my work pants capsule.
Ordered bunch from BR because they had big clearance. I need to buy many things and budget is limited at the moment, so trying to get best possible options for as little as possible:). Work pants are my essentials and not something that is exciting to shop for.
Here is latest arrival: gray lightweight wool Ryan and olive Avery. What do you think? Are Ryans too small? They are the same size as my navy lightweight wool Ryans but feel smaller.
What about Avery? I don't have anything in olive but I got curious after admiring Angie's olive capsule.
My behind is not very photogenic but wanted to show you the fit from that angle too
Should I keep them or keep on looking?

I feel the olive beat the grey by a long shot. The cut on the grey... something off about it to me...

I agree with Rachy. The olive fit you better. The grey seemed too tight to me.

I also have a healthy respect for budgets. Updating your wardrobe using promotions is the way to go. Keep your capsule small and tight in the beginning. Good luck.

Can you order the size up for the grey ones? I like lightweight wool better than cotton for work (more formal, less wrinckly), and the length is better - the olive looks too short to me, with your heels here. I can see them better in Summer, rolled up, with flats.

Rachy, you are right, I think Ryans are too small, and that is the reason why they look off. But are Avery keepers, or just better then other but not great either?

Sterling. yes I am trying to keep my capsule small, but at the moment I have only 4 pairs of work pants that fit and that are not strictly summer. But 2 of those 4 are crooped and I am not used to wear cropped in fall/winter. I was hoping that Ryans would work because they are full length:(

Skylurker - we cross posted. That is exactly what I am thinking, I prefer full lenght lightweight wool then cropped cotton for fall/winter and office. But since I am shopping clearance not all sizes are available. No size up for grey ones. I have a feeling that they are mislabeled and full size smaller and that is the reason why they were in clearance. Unfortunately I have ordered matching blazer to make a suit which has not arrived yet.

Avery fits better - but too long for crops, and too short for regular length pants. Cotton is not a good idea for Fall & Winter. I echo Isabelle.

You can try a size up in the Ryans and alter the waist if you like?

Ok, are my eyes on wrong? I thought the gray looked *perfect* on you and the olive was too short and had wrinkles where it shouldn't.

Angie - I did not realize that Averys are too long for crops, thanks for pointing that out. I am leaning towards returning both. My capsule is tight at the moment but I think that I still need to be PPP

Laura G - I was sooo hoping that the gray ones could work, because I ordered matching blazer and I need suit for an work event beginning November. Still have some time but wanted to be prepared.

I am with Laura, I also think the gray Ryans fit you nicely. Unless they pull when you walk or are uncomfortable when you sit, only you can tell those things.

That particular Ryan looks too small for work comfort and style IMHO, but going up a size should work out if the ordered jacked fits you well.

With budget considerations, new grey wool Ryans on eBay start at 29.99, so if you can find your size maybe that would help.

Do you have a Banana Republic Outlet near you. I found a lot of dress pants there, and they seem to have an additional 40% off. lots of Ryan and Avery.

I find I need to size up a bit in a lighter colored drapier pant like the grey to get the best look.

Oops, the 40% is currently off tops but they run frequent sales and if you sign up you can get lots of coupons.

I understand how frustrating it is. I put on weight last year and had to replace all trousers and jeans (and undies!)
Maybe try Massimo Dutti? They do office wear at reasonable prices, and not too classic/stuffy.

Jojce B - gray pants don't feel uncomfortable but they feel tighter then I ,would like. I was just hoping that it does not look like it

SandyG - unfortunately bigger size iz not available in this color even at the full price. But good tip about ebay. Never shopped for clothes there.

karen13 - there is no Banana Republic shop at all in Austria, only online shop. I think you are right about lighter color needing size up - they show imperfections more

skylurker - Massimo Dutti is also not available here. Issue is that there are only two types of suits here - very expensive designer ones or cheap polyester ones from high street chains.

Agree with some of the others. I would try sizing up in the Ryan. I prefer that fabric for the work environment. The Olive Avery is pretty. But doesn't seem like work pants to me. Ditto on the length. I am curvy: small waist and round bottom I size up in the Ryan's and then have the waist altered. For 20 years I resisted the idea of having to pay for alternations after paying for my pants (hated the idea of added cost). However, I have to humbly admit once I bit the bullet I have been SO MUCH HAPPIER when getting dressed in the morning. So I just mentally include the additional $20.00 for alterations when considering purchasing a pair of pants. Best of luck to you in finding what you need for work. I can relate to the frustration in the process.

mtnsofthemoon - this is very good advice, I never even considered altering the waist, just always wear the belt. I should try it to see if it makes worthwhile difference.

Thank you all for helping me make decision - I am returning both. Will try to find Ryan in size up, although I have another pair of lightweight wool Rayans in this same size that fit good. There is also Avery model in the same color and fabric, maybe I can try my luck with those instead?

It would be worth trying the Avery ones if the blazer works out. I have found that pants in a different colour fit differently in terms of sizing. I don't know why that is.

Style Fan - I should probably wait for the blazer to arrive and to see if it works before I start looking for matching pants. Maybe I will not need them in the end.

Since you're buying online anyway, why not see if the outlet for the same chain that someone posted a link to has the pants you need?

The olive look past season to me too, more summer casual than work. The grey are a little snug but even if they weren't I think you could do better style-wise? You have such a nice figure!

The rise is fine and I like the fitted thigh but maybe a longer length and less tapered at the ankle? Maybe even not tapered at all?
