K/R: Retro Cobalt Trench ETA: Ignore it is going back

I kind of felt like my tan trench ruined my otherwise cute outfit the other day. (Pic 7).

Long story short, happened upon this cobalt blue one today. Not sure of the age exactly. But I liked the color, the fact it is actually water resistant (tan one is cotton and not coated), and that it was a decent brand (london fog).

It is single breasted and has covered placard though and contrasting teal lining, it is definitely dated -- the question: is it dated in a bad way?

Pics 1-5 on the coat, 6 is with the zip in thinsulate lining, although I doubt I would use this regularly.

Hm, I hate to be a downer, but I find the cut of the cobalt one a bit dated and not especially flattering, especially seeing the difference between the two trenches. I much prefer the tan one and don't think it ruined the outfit at all!

The blue color looks good on you but I also find it dated. However, if you need a coat to keep you dry until you find the perfect one, $8 may be worth it for now.

I agree with above comments. Pass. If you get it, even cheaply, it will create a mental wall where it will be more difficult to justify buying a more appropriate and flattering one. Keep your closet uncluttered!

I think you can do better and agree it might be better to let it go than have it hanging around. I'm not generally a fan of beige trenches myself but there should be lots of cute options this spring.

Oh pooo! I was really loving the color so I was hoping it would work. But yes, there is a lot of volume and not much figure flattery going on. Maybe if I moved the buttons over? Will try some safety pins and get some pics...

I hear you on falling in love with color. It can be very tempting to keep an item if you love how the color looks.

But..step away from the coat! I would not try to "make" it work. Use the experience to hone in on happy colors, single-breasted styles--those are good moves. You can find a lot better fit and style.

It loes look better with buttons moved over, but I think it would be annoying to walk with the wrap over by your legs.
