K/R: Red & black Ellen Tracy kimono dress

This was a great deal at 6pm.com, but it's a bit long on me (no petite sizes) and I am debating whether it's a keeper. I love the drape of the fabric and its colors, plus it's very comfortable.

Pic 2 is a side view so you can see that it's a bit blouson-like on me
Pic 3 shows the skirt hiked up a bit to knee length...is this better than pic 1?

Actually, Sunita, I like the length as is. I think the length is part of the drape, although shortening to the knee would be fine, as well.

I like the whole "arty classic" vibe of this dress --- but your face in the pictures looks like your unsure. I'd suggest a cuff or statement bracelet, and maybe shoes that are a little more edgy, or even a tad retro -- something a little less refined than your gorgeous slingbacks.

I adore the pops of red in the top --- they really let your hair and complexion pop.
Ultimately though, it's most important that we feel fab!

Thanks Beth Ann. I like the dress a lot, but needed reassurance from YLF, you know? And I can always take up the length later if I want.

I didn't style the look too much because this was a rush job. I would definitely wear jewelry with it, and like your suggestion of a bracelet!

I think my facial expressions had more to do with being in my husband's photography studio with its bright lights glaring down on me. He's always complaining that I look miserable when he takes my picture!

Like Beth Ann, I actually like the length on you! My only complaint is that the back neckline is seemingly not lying flat --- but that could be just a matter of smoothing it down and maybe removing the tag to help it along. Other than that, this is a WINNER to me! Lovely lines, very flattering proportions and colours.

(PS: I can't open 6pm, or at least can't see the picture; so not sure whether the bodice is meant to blouse, but I quite like it that way.

Manidipa...nice catch on the back neckline! I think it might have to do with how I was holding my arm to take previous pics, but I will check again when I get home...

It's a definite winner, and looks just great on you. IMHO, a chunky bangle (either red or black, fairly wide, and brilliantly lacquered papier-mâché, to emphasize the Japanese feel of the dress) would be the only jewellery for this, cos a necklace of any sort, even earrings would be just too busy around the colour-block shoulderline.

The length is fine, but you have really nice legs, so you COULD eventually shorten the dress if you decide it'd be more you. But you know what I'd do? I'd keep it that length, cos it would look fabulous in the autumn with a long-sleeve fine black tee worn underneath, and some high black boots or opaque black tights and some zinging red patent ballet flats. If you DID adopt this idea, it would be more chic to leave the dress longer. I personally hate to see a gap between my hemline and my boots. But perhaps that's just me! Well done, all-in-all a great buy!

Thanks LaFrancaise...I too was thinking of leaving it at the midi-length for the fall, but I hadn't thought of trying boots with it. Will keep that in mind and be on the lookout for a chunky red/black bangle (mine are silver or gold)!

I like the length as-is, too, and I love LF's ideas for styling in the winter. The longer hem is also more modern/"now" to me. You can always shorten later, if short hemlines come roaring back, or if you find you never warm up to the length.

I think it is a perfect length as is and think it is a keeper.
That explains why your picture is so great - how cool is that to have a photographer hubby to take you pictures for YLF!

The wrinkling in the bodice and waist bothers me. At first I wondered if the top was too long for you, but I see that it wrinkles in a way I don't like in the picture on the model too.
