No - a blazer is perfect and I’ll have to see what I have . And a have a couple of great chunky thigh length cardigans or 2 finer gauge longer cardigans . A sleeveless gilet type thing would be cool - but not really useful as a cool weather topper when sleeved coverage is wanted . Anyways -I think I’ve got great ideas here and now want to keep my eyes open for new chunky boots I’m excited to wear this dress now !!

Love it! Trying to see the neckline; looks like a slight V. The dress seems to have a good fit and enough structure. Looks both comfortable and current, a winning combination. Honestly, it appears to be the summer dress I’ve been longing for. Enjoy it all the styling possibilities. Wondering if a soft, but structured, perhaps unlined, summer jacket would work with it.

Love it! It looks great. I vote experiment with the length a little by pinning it up 2 inches or so. My feeling is that the longer (existing) length would look better with boots but a (slightly) shorter length looks better with sandals. Just play around with it to see how you feel.

I could also see laying underneath working - a light merino or mesh top (probably black but maybe olive or similar).

I really like the dress, and l love the length! But I’m stumped on the topper, which is part of my issues with dresses….looking forward to seeing what you put together

I'm so with you here. I too am stepping out of my comfort zone with volume/proportion these days and I have no idea what's actually flattering on me anymore (or if it needs to be.)

I think the neat neck/shoulder fitting gives it the structure you need. You could shorten to make it more conventionally flattering, but I think longer makes it more modern - so you give up a little in conventional figure flattery, but you look urban and modern (especially with the low vamp slides.) I vote Keep.

The reason it works to my eye is the arms and ankles. For me, I always need one point of structure with volume. Although this one is not so voluminous. Agree with Irina - crossbody bags are wonderful to add a taming diagonal line over volume. Where did you find this dress? You may have said but I did not sleep enough and am still working on the caffeine part of my morning.

I really like what I can see -- I'd love to get a better look at the neckline, since your hand with the phone is in the way. But I think it works really nicely for you and has enough structure in the top to carry off the voluminous look (a bit the same way my black COS dress does). Not crazy at all. I like the subtle stripe, and I can see this being versatile for several seasons!

I also received a dress today I decided to try -- one Angie suggested from Artful Home, which I have never ordered from before. It gives me a similar feeling (feels great on, voluminous but I think structured enough to be fairly flattering). I'll have to post it also, but I'm inclined to keep. Two black summer dresses isn't too many, right?

The dress is from a Canadian company called Power of My People . Interesting ethos and great fabrics . I’m dying to see if they do knitwear for fall .

The neckline is an open Mandarin collar style .

I may have it shortened a bit - just so some leg shows . I’m so happy to have ideas and comments back from those of you wear this look and know it better than I . Clothing like this is so much more interesting than my usual stuff and I think I have the confidence that age brings in that I’m less worried about looking traditionally attractive . Who’s looking at me anyways ? !

Lisa - this is a great dress and I can see Jenn in it, which is such a good thing as Jenn is the master of great black summer dresses.

For casual dresses my favourite toppers are denim jackets, leather moto or blazer, bomber jacket or anorak. I have very few cardigans, but I can see the right one working with this dress. I would have thought that this dress would look great with a topper because that would add more structure.

So glad you found a great summer dress. If this dress is beautifully made in great fabric that is easy to launder my bet is that you will gravitate to this and get heaps of wear.

Check that you are okay with the back view. I remember last summer you tried a dress with some volume, but did not like the back view. I don’t know what you decided in the end.

This particular dress has volume, but not as much as some. It seems tailored about the shoulders and upper body, which gives it more structure than the usual shirt dress. I like your footwear choice and think it would be fun with cognac or leopard print. Lots of good styling suggestions above.

I think the dark color and contemporary print contributes so much toward the greatness of this dress! Looks great!

It’s a Cool Dress, not at all wacky house-dress. I feel the sandals are a little delicate for it and like the Birkenstocks better… I think boots would work well because boots always have a bit of ‘tough’ about them.

I can also see a light layer working underneath for cool-ish weather, as Brooklyn suggested.

I think it’s great. I suspect this is the kind of thing that looks much much better in person and a movement. If you believe you will wear it, then I say keep!!

I absolutely adore this dress and would have ordered it in a second, but it’s black, and I prefer navy. Phew, money saved…
It looks great on you and I hope you keep it. I’d probably treat it as a hot weather item and not try to extend its wear into autumn, but it’s worth playing around with jackets and cardigans just to see if there’s a look that you like.

I think it looks great! It is hard to tell about the length, I like Firecracker's suggestion about pinning it up to get an idea if you would like it better a little bit shorter. And for a topper I would just try everything you have with it and see which works the best.

KILLER cute dress! LOVE. Perfect fit, LisaP! Try it with light footwear too.

Try your denim jackets and a crossbody bag, maybe, to keep things crisp and structured. At least, that's what I do when I need a topper and bag for my sack dresses. I just got this one

HAH! I see Irina has the same idea.

Ackkk I now also want that dress. I’m taking myself out of it because I’m not very tall and sizing is so challenging with inline shopping.
So I love this dress for you. It looks great in the photo and so even better on with movement. In terms of length I would wear it out a couple of times before deciding. My hunch is that it may need 2 inches.

I love this dress on you!!! Fabulous. I have been wondering what to order next from POMP.

Angie, this is where denim jackets fail me. I'm high-hipped, and denim jackets sitting at the waist or just below with something loose falling below is very unflattering . Very. I wish it were that easy . I'll keep it in mind though as I'm always keeping half an eye open for the perfect denim jacket that actually fits me properly.

SF - me too! I'm actually tempted by the shirt offered in this fabric!

How about a longer low contrast denim jacket? Offsets the cutting horizontal lines.

Yes - that's what I'm keeping an eye out for.  Black would be great, and pretty useful in my closet.

Your new T&B shirtdress is so pretty !  Perfect colour for you too  Now I'm thinking about black high tops ( black or white ) for this new dress of mine......

The shirt would be gorgeous.

Cool dress and I’m liking this brand:). To my eye the dress is not particularly oversized but rather a relaxed fit. I like the shape and dark tones and I’d like to see it a bit shorter on you. I feel the length is skewing the proportions a little. A little shorter and I think it’s a winner and probably a summer work horse xx

Thanks Deborah - I appreciate your eye here .

Well I love it! Cool and modern! You look so chic!

I'm terribly late here but simply chiming in to say I love the dress on you and think it's a keeper! I like the styling suggestions others have offered, and I'm sure a little try-on session with existing toppers will either reveal the perfect thing already in the closet or show you where you need to go with that issue.

Love the texture! What a great find. A beautiful and interesting dress. A piece of art!
