K/R POMP dress - YouLookFab Forum

I'm right out of my comfort zone here ,so need someone to tell me if I'm barking up the wrong tree with this oversized dress. It's not inexpensive, so I need to make sure I don't look like I'm wearing a nightgown.

The construction is phenomenal, as is the fabric, and I feel like a million dollars with it on - however I'm not if I LOOK like a million dollars, lol.

There are no pockets, which is too bad.

It is quite long, but not as long as the photos suggest because of my usual inability to get the right angle. Thus, my foot sticking out to show the actual length. I'm wearing two sandal options - Birks, and FL heeled slides. I would like to wear it into fall with boots too. Ignore second day /gym hair please.

This is not a look I have much experience with , but it is a style direction I'd like to take. The fit is perfect through the upper body. Not sure how it should fit elsewhere. I've attached a photo from their website, which I'm sorry isn't great (it's quite dark on the site too ).

So give it to me - is this a cool dress or am I venturing into crazy house dress territory ?

Ok, I am horrible at these, but I think I like this. I prefer it with slides and really like when I can see the slit in the side ... so I suspect that it shows better irl and in motion vs. in a photo. It is definitely NOT in crazy house dress territory though ... more like JFE territory.

I agree with Helena, it's the kind of dress that comes alive with the right styling. Definitely a keeper.

I like it and I think it fits you well. It seems to have a bit of the easy feel of a caftan (without the sometimes floppy volume). But the structure at the top is very nice -- the cut reminds me a bit of a cheongsam (in a good, non-appropriative way). Oh dear, I hope I haven't ruined it for you!

Lisa, I love it, not a surprise, I guess . I think it fits perfectly and the style is simple but edgy. I would pair it with Birks.
If it’s more volume than you used to wear, try it with a crossbody bag to tame the volume a bit,

It’s gorgeous! I like the subtlety of the print. The length, side vents, and structured shoulders all look just right. Great black sandals too; I like it with both pairs. Lots of styling possibilities too — belted, rolled up sleeves, worn open over jeans as a duster…

I think it's terrific on you and it feels like a natural progression of your style. And, come on, if you feel like a million bucks in it, doesn't that say it all really???

PS I like it with both sandals and would love to see it with sneakers and/or booties too. It feels quite versatile.

The length seems ok?

It seems okay to me. I like long. And as LaPed and Sarah pointed out, the structure up top keeps it from being totally shapeless. I think it would be cool with a heeled black bootie (casual rather than refined).

Lisa, I really like it! I like both shoe options, and yes, you could wear boots or booties like the model in cooler weather. I know it's hard to tell the length from the photo angle, as you noted. But I might shorten it about 2". Maybe pin it up and see how that looks to you. The fact that you feel like a million bucks in it is important, too! It's exciting to hear that this dress represents a style direction you want to want to head toward. So fun when you get those pieces that meet your aspirations!

I like it a lot, it looks great on you! Not too long. Looks good with either shoe.

The length looks OK to me with these shoes. If you are planning to wear it with boots, you need to try it on and see if it works with this length.

This is fabulous on you! I don’t think it’s too long (but I like any length above ankle). If you do shorten it, I’d try it w/ boots first so you can see how the fabric falls. I’d also make sure to keep the side slits!

Both shoes work perfectly with the dress, which is absolutely nowhere near crazy house dress territory. It's very sophisticated looking. Looks great on you and and I don't think it's too long

Ooooh!! I love it!!! Both shoes are good choices.

Is the length about the same on you as the picture of the model? (As you note, a little hard to tell because of mirror-selfie angle.). I would definitely vote wear it at least once to see how you like the length in real life before deciding to shorten.

I love the fit on you - it has ease but is not oversized.

The suggestion to try it with a crossbody to slightly rein in the lower volume is brilliant - never thought of that.

Mine isn’t due to arrive for another 10 days - I hope if fits half as well as yours!!

Very interesting dress - gorgeous print and construction.
I vote to keep the fab dress . I see it working for you with your skillful styling - bag, earrings, etc.
The length is debatable - I'd consider 1" off ( it maybe just difficulties with perfect photo taking - I have same problem too ).
Curious to see how it looks with light colored shoes - espadrilles or something like it.

I think the model is a little taller - so the dress is indeed longer on me . Probably an inch or so .

Great idea about the cross body used to temper the volume - I have the perfect one that is just phone sized and quite polished . Also good idea to try a lighter coloured shoe : I have a great pair of sand coloured suede espadrilles that might work !

My next concern is a topper . Again , this is out of my wheelhouse . I don’t want something the same length so I guess it will be a open cardigan or some sort . Thoughts on that anyone ?

Since the sleeves are wide and short, a topper could be problematic to layer over them. Maybe a long gillet?

I would try it first with the black chunky cardi you have. I also would try the BR chunky cardi we both have, not to to wear it with this dress but to check if silhouette works. (You’d want to see where it hits on the hips).
Do you have a boyfriend cardigan? Or a fitted wrap cardigan?

Also would be interesting to see it with a black, longer blazer plus combat boots. Am I too far off your comfort some?

I like where Irina's head is at. Pull out a bunch of your toppers and try it with all of them instead of trying to define the ideal from the outside.
