K/R: Pink Trench - Medium pics added

I know I said I didn’t need a trench, and I know I said I hate Michael Kors (for being mean to the Project Runway contestants and putting his big honking name all over everything), but I might need this *pink* Michael Kors trench. I ordered two sizes, medium and large. This is large. The medium was too tight across the back of my shoulders. This one might not be flattering enough. The color is great, the buttons are dark silvery metallic, and it has a removable hood. As for fit, it just fits across the back of my shoulders, yet seems a little baggy across the front.

What do you think?

1-3 large with fleece vest underneath
4-6 large with long sleeve tee
7-10 medium with long sleeve tee

The medium is uncomfortably tight when I raise my arms, as if driving.

I love it on you! Fit looks good. With your arms down, it doesn’t look too large in front.

Well, it's hard to pass this one up. The color and style are so good on you! I think it looks large in the last three photos with just a t-shirt underneath. Even the shoulders look a bit wide, in both sets of photos. The medium was just too small across the back? From what I see, I'd try a size down.

I don't think I'd settle for a so-so fit, as beautiful as this coat is on you. I'm now in the market for a replacement for my blush trench coat, as I tore it in a little bike mishap. It's a hard thing to find!

Firecracker, I just tried the medium on again, and even without the fleece vest, it was too tight across my shoulders and back. Putting my arms forward, as if I were driving, it’s way too tight. So that leaves the large, which seems big in the front, especially under the arms. So maybe this is a return?

What a gorgeous jacket!! Love it! The size looks ok if you’re planning to wear it over other sweaters.
Maybe you could check how it looks over a dress?

Oh Janet I so love your honesty! You said this or that but you really *need* this particular pink one! Well I guess Michael Kors will be rich with or without this purchase and it’s not the world’s worst ethical decision if you get it!
It is gorgeous on you and so you. Your hair looks so good with that pink.
I find it a teensy bit too big especially in the second set of pics, at the back. I don’t think it is so much too big to stop the purchase if you love the coat. You will soon not notice since it otherwise suits you so well x

Angie, the medium looks okay, but is uncomfortable. When I put out my arms as if driving, it’s too tight across the back and the tops of my arms, even with just a tee underneath. So if this one looks too big, then I’ll return them both.

Sterling, yes, I’m returning both. The medium looks like it fits right, but is too tight across the back. The large looks too big, yet has only just enough ease across the back.

It is a great color and style. How are you going to wear it? I struggle with sizing like this, because for the best visual, you have to either optimize for layers or no layers. I had the same problem with my recent raincoat purchase.

I decided I wanted something that was for warm rain/city wear (my trip to NYC in October ID'd the wardrobe hole). In a pinch, I could wear a nano puff under it, comfortable enough, but it looks better without.

So how are you most likely to wear it? Does that usage model justify the purchase? And would you be willing to wear it the other way or not. Could the large be successfully altered?

Karen, I’m returning both. The cut is too slim through the shoulder blades, and too loose everywhere else. I really wanted it to work, but it might be just as well, as a trench might not be for my real life. Here, it’s either hot or cold, and rarely wet unless snowing, and then obviously this wouldn’t be warm enough. So, I just don’t know. And you make a good point about what you can fit or not underneath. So back to the drawing board.

I think you are wise to return both and wait for one in the right fit to come along. The pink looks like a wonderful color on you. next.

It's too bad, Janet. I agree the medium looked great, but comfort is key. I think a raglan sleeve would be more comfortable for you. They are hard to find, though.

Also, you are right about sometimes things not being the right weight for one’s weather. I have made that mistake before as well and am trying not to do that any more either.

Sorry - late here (story of my life of late) . I love the colour for you - your hair is so beautiful - and the idea is great, but do not buy anything too tight or fussy! You know that The large is too big (the sleeve length bothers me here) and the M *looks* fine, but I see you are already returning. Good decision . And , for the record, MK annoys me too. I like his stores, confess to liking his leather goods, but am over the big flashy metal logo all over everything . I'd love to see you in a more minimalist style of pink coat - a single breasted, zip front,etc. But yes to pink.

Firecracker, raglan sleeves sound like a good idea. I’ll keep my eyes out for another coat.

Jenni, you’d think I would have learned to buy for my real life by now. I could wear this weight of coat from time to time, but in my casual life of birding, dog walking, etc., the casual jackets I already have would be more appropriate.

Lisa, I really love the idea of a trench, but your suggestion of a minimalist style would probably be more flattering.

Shevia, I’ve avoided MK for years. I think if designers want to plaster their name on our clothes, they can pay us!

I'm tired of seeing logos on everything too-gear seems the biggest offender atm Adidas and Nike especially...
I haven't seen Project Runway, but it seems to be the formula of that sort if show to have a nasty host. The audience has to have someone to love to hate!

Suntiger, Michael Kors is one of the worst. On this coat, his name was on the buttons, and the lining was a pattern of MKs. So hardly anything!

I have a few things in the cheaper Michael Kors line (without the logos, thank you) including my raincoat, and they fit well through my shoulders which are on the narrower side. So maybe that’s how this brand is cut. Keep trying and let us know the brands. What works well for you in regular set in shoulders will be a signal to me that the fit will be a long shot on me.

Great color for you but I agree that you have to be able to drive comfortably while wearing the trench. I hope you will soon find one that works.
