K/R: Peasant blouses--new silhouette for me

This is a very different silhouette for me. I've always been into fitted tops but would like to try something new, hence these peasant tops. But I'm unsure as to whether these look good on me or make me look like a whale with the dolman sleeves and blouson style. The neckline, sleeves and waist are all elastic so very comfy. These would mainly be for MOTG tops. What do you think? If you don't like these, don't worry, I have more similar options coming to try on!

The turquoise Bobeau one is two different sizes (XS and S) but I can barely tell the difference.

9-11. Vince Camuto Placed Passion Blouse in Pepper
The red and blue one is a version of the green and black one that Kari rocked. For some reason, I feel like it looks way better on her, maybe because she's got the chest to fill it out--maybe this style is better for hourglasses than apples? Maybe I'm just not used to this waist surrendering style on me but I feel like I look huge in it--does it look OK to you? I could also exchange for the green one if you think that looks better than the red.

12-15. Banana Republic Floral Pintuck drop-waist top
The last top is from Banana Republic and was one of Angie's picks, but I think it may go back--it's supposed to be drop waisted but I guess I have a long torso--the waistband's drawstring hits right at the widest part of my apple and it kind of bugs me when it rubs against my tummy.

I like all of them on you - and it's fun to experiment with a new silhouette - I don't think it makes you look big at all. I think my faves would be #1 (the color is really vivid) & #3 (somehow seems to match the style I've seen from your other pics) . I think they're perfect for MOTG!

The VC top is too large. Can you size down?

The BR top is too small. That needs to go up a size and slouch.

The first top (in either size, I can't tell much of a difference either) is the only one I like as is. I'd try Angie's sizing suggestions on the other two and see if those bring about a little more style love!

I like the first top for color and pattern. The dolman arm is not my fave but that color is great on you!

I really like #1. The style of the BR should be nice on you but the drawstring has to be lower (closer to hips) and then blouse a little bit. The general concept of waist surrender is hard to get used to but so fun for a change of pace.

I agree with Angie (how can one not agree with Angie?) and would add that I much prefer these billowy tops with the tapered bermudas you have on in the first few pics.

Meanwhile, I think the VC blouse has potential - you should try a size smaller as per Angie, and I think that blouse might look better with longer shorts or perhaps a pencil skirt or even jeans. There's nothing wrong with the white shorts, in fact - the white looks nice with the red/blue/white colour scheme of the VC blouse, but I think it's just the proportions are off a wee bit - that blouse needs a longer bottom piece.

Angie's already had the last word on the tops, so all I wanted to pop in to whisper was I love those colours on you (both the first and second tops). (I wonder if the second top would work with your navy and orange skirt, with the honeycomb pattern --- sorry am describing this so badly!)

I'm glad you think this style looks OK on me. Thanks Angie and everyone for the fit tips. Funny how some of them are too big and some too small! Just shows how inconsistent clothing sizing is if I need anywhere from an XS to a M. I'll keep the XS turquoise top and am going to order the VC blouse in XS--I've decided to try the emerald color instead (I think I want to try a brighter color!). Manidipa, good thought about the cobalt and orange skirt, but the colors in the pic are off (those were iPhone pics because my camera battery ran out)--the top is actually more red and navy. I'm on the fence about trying a larger BR top--I will probably just return this one (I have some more tops coming and may be more excited about those). Rae, I will definitely wear the peasant tops with pencil/midi skirts and jeans--the shorts were just for convenience since I was already trying them on for the other K/R thread. Thanks for your help everyone--waist surrender is a brave new world for me so it really helps to have objective feedback because I don't think my eyes have adjusted to this silhouette yet!

I know just what you're talking about Natalie - i can't seem to get used to these blousy tops. My favorite was the BR top, probably because it was the least blousy of them all. I'm just going to have to get used to the more pillowy look and hope i don't look like a balloon. You, however, still look tiny and adorable in the blousy tops!

As "oversized/waist surrender" is right up my alley, I just want to say two things. One, oversized does not mean one size fits all! You can see that in your pix, as Angie pointed out. Proportion is still just as important. I think the turquoise is indeed the right fit here.

The other thing is that O/WS does not photograph well, especially from the side. I specifically noticed this when I saw a gorgeous young gal wearing a sleeveless pyramid tank top in Hawai'i. It was clear she was a skinny thing, but when she stood still (in line at Starbucks) a photo would not show that. It's all about the movement and illusion, which pictures by nature do not capture well.

Keep those things in mind and I think you will add these to your repetoire nicely!

The first top looks fantastic!

I love the colors of the Vince Camuto top on you. I actually tried this one out myself and I love the colors, but when looking at my closet I realized it would be massively hard to find pieces that would go well with it. I didn't want to end up with a pretty orphan.

I like the vibe of the VC blouse on you a lot, but I also vote for trying a size down. It's mostly the way it hangs around the shoulders/neckline that indicates that it's too large.

I hope that you can try a smaller size, because I think it could look utterly stunning on you.

The first two Bobeau tops look wonderful on you. Size down on the second one but keep! I don't love the third one - the coloring is less flattering and the fit is off. But the first two are smashing!
