K/R: neon floral pants and a metallic dress

Went to Macy's yesterday to buy underwear with the friends and family discount and ended up coming home with some pants and a dress, oops (I did get the underwear too though).

First up are the pants. These are from Michael Kors, and are pretty crazy, neon floral pants with a tuxedo stripe. The SA said they were brand new, had just arrived a few hours before. They are a little too short, but there is 1" of seam allowance I can let out at the hem, or I could crop them. They are very comfy and the fit is good. J. thinks they are ridiculous, but I love love love the print. I think it's more neon IRL. Keep or return? And if keep, should I let out the hem or crop them? ETA: I added a pic with different potential crop lengths. Which do you like?

Next up is a metallic Lauren by Ralph Lauren dress. It has a stretchy lining and a draped outer layer which is very flattering - usually sheath dresses are awful on me. This one does not create a tummy pooch, hooray! I would be able to wear this to the third wedding-related event (reception in Boston in late June) so it's not a totally frivolous purchase. The color is a dark gold/bronze and it's a textured metallic; I hope it does not read as too brown.

Diana, those pants are so fun! I'm no expert on trousers, but they might look a touch more on trend if you cropped them. Just my two cents!

That metallic RL dress is a keeper for sure. Perfect for the wedding event, and so flattering. I have three RL dresses in this cut and find them incredibly useful wardrobe workhorses. Love their fit.

Well, I love them both! You are lucking out with the dresses -- this one is glamorous, much sexier than your usual look, while still fitting in beautifully with your overall style persona. It would also pack well (for honeymoon?).

The pants seem to fit you great. I'd crop them, I think. First, because it's a lot of pattern, and second, because they really feel like a summer item anyway. Mind you, I have a pair of pants that were just that tiny bit too short. I let down the hems, but they still feel a bit short, so I don't really feel happy with them as is. So I'm speaking from that experience.

I have a poison eye for chartreuse, so I'm not a good person to comment on the pants. But the dress is extremely flattering, so keep! I like seeing this silhouette on you.

I added a photo up top of the pants with the legs folded up to two different lengths. If I crop, which length do you prefer?

I think I marginally prefer the shorter length, Diana, but it's not a huge deal either way.

I just bought that RL dress in black! Planning on wearing it to a wedding this sumer. It is SO flattering... love the shape of it! Feels good on, doesn't it?

I like the pants and prefer them cropped! Nice to see some leg with that bright pattern!

Diana, could you please provide a link to the dress? I think I know which it is, but want to be sure. I have had many clients in this RL dress style over the years. It works especially well on the not so well endowed.

I bought it at Macy's but I can't find it on their website. It was marked down a lot so I think it is an older season color.

ETA: I agree it's fantastic for the smaller-on-top. I did not have to size up as I usually do for sheath dresses so the top actually fits. Plus it has little shoulder pads which I love.

ETA2: Rae posted the link to the real dress below, which has wider shoulders than the Nordie's version. I guess RL makes many versions of this dress.

The dress is divine; I agree with grabbing an item like this when you find it! Great for the dressy dress capsule--it looks classic in style, a great neutral color and would have good staying power.

The pants are truly fun--you wear them well! For me it would be a question of how many times will I wear them--does it justify the fun factor. I'm torn on length because I like them worn as a patterned jean/tuxedo pant with calmer neutral shoes and tops; but the floral does scream summer, so I like the shorter crop the best of the cropped lengths, and then it would go well with sandals too.

Love both items. I think I would prefer the pants longer, with the hem let out, but it's not a deal breaker. They look ok in their present length as well to me, especially if you wore them with a strappy sandal or an ankle bootie.

Wow wow WOW! Love the pants. We got tops in this print at work, but not the pants - wish we did! The dress is flat-out divine on you. Keep both, or I will lose my sanity.

I love the dress on you! The pants are very cute; I think the tuxedo stripe is what makes them special. I'd crop them for sure; I am loving the boyfriend and ankle jeans this year.

Thanks, everyone! I think I will keep both... will crop the pants to shorter length, but given that I managed to fold the entire excess length up into the leg in the last photo, I am not actually going to cut off the extra fabric, just make an extra wide hem. That way, if I change my mind I can still let it back out later.

Like the floral pants, esp cuz they are monochromatic only(so very rare), but THE DRESS is a real gem! You are a lucky girl, seems your bridal wardrobe is sorted now!:-))

I think those pants are a knockout just as they are. It's a happy print with great motif placement. I love the colours!
The dress looks beautiful on you and is definitely not brown. You can easily see the metallic shine.
