K/R: Miista Ona teal (!) cutout boots (and the Nicoles again)

The teal metallic Miista boots have arrived! Here they are, styled in a few different ways. What do you think?

1-5: closeups of the shoes. I am wearing my orthotics (which don't show) and nude footies (which do show through the lowest cutout but the edge is conveniently hidden by the strap). These are buckled at the tightest hole. How are they in terms of flowerpot effect? There is also some excess room in the instep region; do you think it shows? Also, they are quite pointy - do you think this is too OTT when combined with the extremely eye catching color?

6-7: with my VC tube skirt at full length (6) or rolled up (7).

8: with a full knee-length skirt

9: with BF jeans

10-12 are the Nicole booties again, that most people thought were too flowerpot/too heavy looking. Any better when styled?

ETA: These are the three main silhouettes I would wear these with - narrow skirt, full skirt, BF or other cropped pants. And bootcuts, but pretty much everything works under bootcuts IMO. I probably would not wear them with non-cropped, tucked skinnies since I'm not wild about that look.

So I am beginning to think this is just how this style fits. All the pics I've seen look this way. I love the color and my eye might adjust eventually to the FPE going on.

And I thought of FPE when I saw Keira Knightley in this Chanel dress..

Well… the color is breathtakingly gorgeous and you have styled them beautifully. That being said, my eye is not used to such a wide gap around the ankle. It is a little jarring… but, as Una just said, perhaps eyes just need time to adjust to a new look.

OK, that dress Keira is wearing is freaky. FPE indeed!

ETA: I found a picture on ASOS of the black version on a model. Mine definitely have more room. I think my heel/ankle shape may be the problem though - my ankle indents quite a bit from my heel so it almost never touches the back of the boot.

I love the colour. I think the gaping is just how they look (although you do have quite slender ankles).

Wow. I love the color and the taper (not sure I could wear that). They definitely look modern and interesting. Way more 2014.
Is your heel all the way to the back in the footbed? I'm still perplexed as to why they seem to gap so with a short shaft. And of course they seem to fit in front.

Hmm, are they gappy, if everyone ignores the gap? If a tree falls in the forest, and lands on the naked emperor....

Let me add something here. Do the shoes (Miistas) fit exactly in terms of size? When I got my Alice silver booties, they didn't have my exact size so I went up about a whole size. It turned out that it wasn't just the size itself that was big, but the gap at the ankle was ginormous, so that I had huge clown shoes that I was also swimming in. I returned them and eventually found them in my real size--and the gap narrowed considerably. You wouldn't think there would be a reason for it. Perhaps something to consider.

Nancy, the length of the shoe feels correct to me and my heel touches the back. These are also not available in half sizes. Boo.

So this picture might explain why I always get the back gap on booties. These Bruno Magli shoes fit my foot perfectly. See how much the heel sticks out vs. the ankle? That's how my foot is shaped. So it makes sense that a boot with a straight back (like these) would gape there.

ETA: Just checked and they are a Euro 38, which is my normal Euro size. Sometimes I even need a 38.5. So it's not an issue of weird conversion to US sizes.

Seeing the fabness of the teal I would mark off the black. They look lovely and I think you will have fun with them with your softspot for teal. That said, carefully evaluating the fit is key. If the heal holds in place well (which it sounds like is the case, though hard to imagine based upon the gap in to pic) and wont give blisters that is awesome. What about the top back does it rub when you walk? Presuming these would be worn commuting etc. comfort will be very important and as a summer shoe "barefoot" without blisters would be critical. I am not sure if the flowerpot effect is just the cut of the type but I really dont like my shoes to squeeze my feet so I prefer something looser usually and thus the effect doesnt bother me. I think it is awesome how your footie sock ends under the strap disguising it.

Oh wow, I love them on you. I have the same problem with my heel sticking out way beyond my ankle. I also have yet to find a pair of shoes that don't have a gap above my heel.

Can you punch another hole in the strap to cinch them up more? Or would that ruin them?

Objectively, I guess the gap is still there. However, the shine and colour and slightly pointed toe of the teal booties really distract from it to the extent that I hardly notice it. With the matte black booties, it was all I could see. Personally, I love the teal booties, and I find the gap not to be distracting at all. If they are comfortable, I would definitely keep them.

I didn't think I was going to like them until I saw the full-body pics. Your frame handles the height of the bootie well. I don't mind the gap at all.

Honestly I do not see the flowerpot effect. There is a slight gap at the ankle but it is not by any means big.
I love them - color and all - as simple as this

I want to like them, but unfortunately I don't. They look great from the front but not from the side. They look as though you are about to walk out of them, which is not a flattering look. Sorry!

I find it really hard to judge this sort of thing with pictures. Shoes that look comfortable and allow confident walking usually look good to me, shoes that make the wearer wince, hobble, or look awkward don't. When you are static, like sitting, how is your foot held, who is looking at it? Anyway, I love the shape and color and just can't say if I mind the gap!

I love the teal boots on you. The boots in 10-12 are deftly more chunky. While these look sleek probably due to a pointier toe. I don't think it is overwhelming on you either. And I don't mind the gap. If its comfortable its a big fat keep! Please!

Thanks for weighing in, Angie, and everyone else as well. I really appreciate ALL of your opinions. I am still undecided, but will think about it some more.

Sarah, your point about comfort is well taken. I don't think there is any obvious rubbing going on (the part of my heel that touches is covered by the footie, and I'd probably wear real socks the first couple of times to break them in anyway) but I definitely need to wear them around the house a bit to make sure, if I decide to keep them. If anything is going to cut into my foot, it's actually going to be the FRONT panel.

Pastrygirl, I did try pulling the strap tighter to see what would happen, but it just seemed to compress the front part too much and do nothing about the gap in back.

A couple of other things:
--I am a bit worried about the finish. Already there are a couple of creases, and it will get worse with wear. I can tell that the top of the instep (where there is extra room) is going to crease when I walk because my foot doesn't fill it. I am not sure how badly this finish will scuff. I don't mind a little RATE (in fact I like it) but some patent finishes tend to get black scuffs which I don't like. I am not sure how to tell if this will happen.

--I am also slightly worried about the strap stretching out, although I suppose I could punch an additional hole if this happens. It is partially elastic; knowing me, I will probably get lazy and put them on without unbuckling (as I do with all my other shoes, LOL), which might make the stretching a problem.

I'm also beginning to think that *some* gap is just endemic to this style of bootie, Diana. Does your foot lift out of them when you walk?

So one more question: when I walk the front top part kind of pushes into the front of my shin. This is not super comfortable. I feel like in order for it to stop bugging me it would not only have to soften up (the leather is already pretty soft but it IS patent) but also flatten out a bit, which I'm not sure it would do. In the 2nd pic you can see how it kind of forms a bit of a point, probably because I don't have enough foot to fill out the lower portion.

Oh, they are sooo pretty. Love that color.

I hear you on the front portion cutting into your leg. I actually was a little worried about this on the Ugg Cortonas because the top of the chelsea boot portion is quite slim and tended to hit me there too; however, I always wear those with socks, and the issue seems to have gone away as the boots have softened with wear.

If you love these, I would try wearing them around the house, with socks, to see if they feel like they will ease up some or whether the problem just makes itself more evident. I'd love to see you keep these, but only if they'll be worthwhile comfort-wise.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I have decided to return these, for the following reasons:

-When I walk they crease a bit in the front. I am worried about the relatively light colored patent not taking the creasing well. This was the first thing J. pointed out about them too, that they would not look nice when creased.

-The metal part of the top buckle sits right on top of my ankle bone, which is kind of uncomfortable.

-The combo of the looser ankle fit and the elongated pointy toe makes them look rather Western, which is not the look I'm going for. J. also thinks they look too "cowboy boot".
