K/Rs: midi knit dress and floral shift dress

Hello guys, sorry to be a forum hog as usual but you’re all so helpful....

Bought these dresses just wondering if they’re keepers or not? Number 1: I feel a bit like it makes me look like a giant rectangle or sausage.... and the dirty pink colour is not the most fabulous on me....
I think a waist belt may help but I don’t have one at the moment. It also looks a bit more balanced when I wear my charcoal grey trucker cap with it, like in a trendy/sporty devil-may-care style..
Number 2: very pretty print and sleeve ruffle thingy..... but I’m worried it looks too tight/short?
NB: pic 4 is after removing shapewear, a little better I think....
Soooo...... K? R? Thoughts guys?

I am saying this because I cannot imagine the joy per wear factor being high in this. You look pretty and slender in this dress (because you are pretty and slender!), but I agree that you have pin pointed the issues, lack of waist definition and not the greatest colours on you.

I can imagine that this dress belted, with your trucker cap and a denim jacket would look great. The thing is, do you want to work that hard with this dress?

You really light up when you are wearing something that makes you feel fab, so this seems like it will be too much work.

Gorgeous on you, not too short or too tight! I love this with and without the topper.

If you don't love it do not keep it. It
F you do keep it, a topper or scarf could break up the rectangular look. Black or grey or maybe burgundy. A floral scarf could be used for some pattern mixing if it has colors from the dress in it.

Bijou: You've really described it well. There really is no waist definition with dress one. And your question is very valid... do I want to have to "pander" to the dress every time by wearing a jacket, cap and belt... I already have some dresses that require a lot of pandering lol so I'm not too sure if I need another....
Thanks for the feedback on dress two. In the pics I have shape wear on, which I then took off, and what do you know... it looks better, less tight WITHOUT the shape wear. Strange. I do like it with the bomber and sneaks.
Joy: Very good suggestion about trying a scarf with dress one. It actually might work better as a fall dress with a cozy cardi and burgundy scarf... but again... is it worth the effort.

You're adorable in both, but if #1 does not feel great, send it back. As you said, no reason to pander to the dress when you can probably find something that makes you feel wonderful. With the second one -- do a sit test to make sure you're comfy. The textural elements are great and I like the juxtaposition with sneakers!

#2 is a definite keeper.....absolutely lovely and not too short. I like it best without the topper. #1 is cute, but if you have to ask yourself if you like it, then you don’t like it enough for it to earn a space in your closet.

When in doubt definitely don’t! I think they both look nice but you should only keep a dress you love. You will not feel like reaching in your closet for the first dress. It just doesn’t make you feel all that fab. It will collect dust. You can find something better. Sometimes it’s hard to return something that fits and looks good by most standards. That’s where style emotion comes to play. Follow your instinct.

If you are worried the second dress is too tight or short you should sit in it. Make sure it doesn’t ride up too far. That may help you decide. I would be inclined to return it also and keep looking.

The second dress looks great, and you look young and slender and happy in it!

I don’t love the first one. In the past I’ve had a few tee dresses like it, and they feel unforgiving around the tummy and thighs.

Jessikams, Mirjana, Suz, Maineledy, Staysfit: Thank you for your helpful thoughts! I am certainly going to send back the striped dress now. I like the idea of it... but the reality is underwhelming. And as discussed, if I don't really like it much- then what is the point keeping it? It's not like I have a clothing shortage.
Now.. with the second dress.... I do like it, although it is a little more snug than I prefer... I think it works really well with the jacket over the top, and I am considering keeping it, if only to wear with a topper. I have a couple of fussy dresses already that I prefer with a topper, so it is something I do at times, when I love the fabric or shape but just feel like I want more coverage....

For the second dress, do you have ideas on when/where you’d wear it? When I’m contemplating something shorter, it always helps me to visualize the item in some part of my actual lifestyle. Because dresses at retail have been so short, for such a long time, I have a couple that I love the fit, color, and style, but the length has always been a struggle in actually wearing them. It is a super cute dress, so I vote keep, if you’ll wear it.

I'm a spanner today. I much prefer #1 to #2.

I like the length and fit of #1. This is 2018.

The pattern and torso of #2 is LOVELY. A little short. Wish it was 10 inches longer. Too 2015.

I saw the word "floral" and thought how could this be a question. Of course, you keep florals.

Changing my vote after reading your comment above.

I love the floral and suggested keeping it. The length was fine with me. But if you having second thoughts about the tightness, I recommend returning. I have a rule. If at home and I have any doubt, return. It serves me well.

Number 1 looks good on you too, but after reading your thoughts on it, I suggest return.

Deliberately haven’t read others replies yet.I like the lenghth of the first dress on you but if you don’t like the shape or colour why keep it.The second one is cute but I think I would wear it with leggings or such like as it is very short ,you have good legs but the proportions look slightly off to me at this length.

Cardiff, Sterling, Angie, Kathie: thanks for your brilliant advice. I’m going to pass on the pink dress, which I’ve come to think of as “the sausage dress”- not a good sign lol. Angie I agree the midi length is so much more on trend though- totally!
As for the second dress I’m going to keep and wear with the bomber jacket. I really like the look of that outfit. In winter I will wear it with opaque tights and a long cardi, de-bombshelling it. Ideally a bigger size would be better but not available... but I like it so much with the jacket I’m willing to work with it. I normally wouldn’t. It can go in my collection of short dresses that need styling tricks to work. I know the length isn’t very current.... but ah well.

Okay, to describe something as “dirty” tells me you don’t really love it. I will say, though, that you do not look like a sausage! The other one is super cute on you. It is short, but you’re young with a great figure so you can wear it, IMO.
