K/R: Matisse Dove boots - YouLookFab Forum

So these are the boots that I could only find a mismatched pair of at DSW a couple of weeks ago... Stephanie was nice enough to let me know when they showed up for sale on HauteLook and I snapped up a pair in "cognac." They've just arrived and, while I LOVE the style and comfort, I am a little unsure about the color. They don't read as cognac to me, more like a medium brown (like milk chocolate color) and the finish is very matte. I think of cognac as a much warmer, slightly orangey brown, which is a lot easier for me to wear. I always have problems with most other browns and find them kind of too earthy or neutral... What do you guys think? Is this color/finish too earthy for me?

They do come in a different brown finish (last photo), which is very cool and distressed. It was not available in my size from HauteLook. (Also black, but I do not want black as I already have 3 pairs of mid-calf black boots). The ones I tried on at DSW were a camel color that I can't seem to find online.

So: Yay = keep the cognac; you need variety in your boot colors!
Nay = return them and wait for the other color to go on sale!

They are very cute, Diana, but the color makes me hesitate. I love cognac and I love a deep, rich brown. I really struggle with that lighter shade of brown and I think we have similar coloring and taste in colors. They also look kind of casual. If I had to choose between the two, I would get the distressed, darker pair. They look more edgy. Just my 2 cents.

Love the boot! They are quite earthy coloured, so if that's not your style, will you be comfortable with them? Sounds like perhaps a nay, and wait for the other colour to go on sale.

I don't think I am going to be much help, because originally I was going to say - keep, without reservations, but then I finished reading and realized that the color of the last picture is not the same as the boots you were able to get.

Like Kelly, I really like the edginess of the dark pair and am not completely sure about the lighter ones...

Thanks, ladies. I think I agree with you guys and am definitely leaning towards returning. The darker brown is definitely more edgy and rocker, as opposed to this lighter color, which reads a lot more earthy and cowboy to me. I'm definitely having trouble thinking of things to pair this color with... for some reason a real cognac is a go-with-everything color for me, whereas brown is a lot more difficult.

Hi, Diana. So now you've reminded me that it was you who introduced me to the temptation of this boot. No, I never ended up yielding to it, but I did become infatuated with the darker "cherry rough" (or whatever it was called) finish. I'm not a cognac person in general, but I see what you mean: I think of this one more as a tan than the bright, warm tones of true cognac.

Mochi, thanks for the offer but I think I need the price to go down a bit lower than that... the DSW and HauteLook prices were about 1/2 of retail which is about how much I am willing to pay. Am stalking them on Ebay now too...

I am really picky about specific tones in color and if you know that the shinier cognac will work with your clothes then you should hold out for that. Even if they were super cheap! Just sayin'.
