K/R Maggy London wrap dress

This just arrived in the mail from Nordstrom. It doesn't exactly fit like my Maggy London faux wrap dress, which seemed a little more forgiving!

I'm wearing it with a cami underneath. I could try a black or brown cami also---just don't currently own one. (Black was out so I ordered dark blue.)

My main question is whether the top section is too tight, and whether the overall fit is good.

From what I can see, it seems to be a good fit. But I wonder if this is your most flattering silhouette. Would you be able to post new pics after your photographer is up? :). It's hard to judge based on these pics

Thanks Neel...I think what you're saying is that all that material in the front may draw attention to my stomach in a not-so-flattering way. Hmmm. Will see if I can get more photos up tomorrow.

Does the waist hit you in the right place? You look high waisted to me and the dress's waist seems to hit you a little lower than your actual waist. You could try and tie the dress in a way that it is closer to your natural waist for a more flattering look.

Now I could be completely wrong o_O.

P.S. Do post new pics! My wrap dress can create a *box* look if I didn't tie it on my natural waist, which is very high.

It's a pretty dress, but to be honest, I feel like the V is just cut way too low. I know that wearing a cami will fix the exposure issue, but I think that the design just isn't as flattering as it could be when the V is that low. I know very little about wrap dresses—are you able to tie it so that the V isn't so deep?

I feel bitter about wrap dresses that require a cami - it messes up the lovely neckline and seems to defeat the point of a wrap. I would look for similar style in a better fit!

Neel-yes, I consider myself short waisted. So perhaps you're right...the dress isn't hitting my curves at the right place on the bottom.

Gigi and alaskagirl -- unfortunately the v on this dress won't move higher--my bust is pulling the dress open/v down. The way that I'm built, I'm probably going to need a cami no matter what But I could find a dress that has slightly more space.

From the responses, there seem to be too many issues with the fit...sounds like it's going back and I'm onto the next one!

Again really appreciate the comments. I like dresses and it's challenge to get them to fit my body.

The same thing happens to me if it's any consolation. In my fantasy life DVF wrap dresses would look killer on me. In reality, not so much.

Hmm, I have to agree that something seems "off", but I cannot put my finger on what it is. The deep V neckline would be a dealbreaker for me, though. A cami solves the exposure issue, but it changes the way the dress lies and IMO alters the fit in a less-than-ideal way. Camis with wrap dresses are often like toppers over sleeveless dresses to me - sometimes necessary, but better without.

I think it fits you very nicely - I see no issues anywhere. The only thing that gives me personal pause is the requirement for a cami - Like AG, I kind of resent that. At the same time vneck wrap dresses can be hard to find that don't require a cami. I do like the overall shape though.

It is a bit difficult to read the fit from these photos. I wonder whether you need a size smaller as the V seems too wide. A wrap dress should sit nicely at the neckline without a camisole. Or can you wrap it any firmer? Can you use a safety pin to prevent gaping? If you do wear a cami under a wrap dress, less of the cami should be showing. It will be interesting to see your photographers photos later.

Since I doubt you'll be holding your arms quite like this for the majority of your life, I think this is somewhat distorting the fit.....It seems to look like it fits okay but I think that the raised arms might be changing things. I think wraps and faux wraps need some gettting used to...I have a couple and it took me looking at multiple pictures of others and even in catalogs online to understand what I was supposed to look like in them.....I don't have to wear a cami under mine but sometimes do, just in case anything "shifts"...IYKWIM!

Thanks again for all of these comments. I tried on this dress again tonite. After looking at it closely, I agree that the v is too low...and I couldn't get it to move any higher. Maybe I need a bigger size? But that would possibly be baggier in other areas.

For comparison, here's my Maggy London faux wrap dress...I can see that it fits right...and it got a lot of positive comments on the forum a few months ago. I actually prefer the pattern of the brown one (I think the smaller print suits me better) but will have to keep looking for another wrap dress more like the one I currently own.

Prefer the faux wrap, but it really is hard to tell with your arms up, which may also be raising up the cami as well. I am totally sympathetic to having no photographer. The question is -- how do you feel in it? If you are futzing with the wrap, cami, neckline positioning ... then you probably won't wear it.

Beautiful dress. I vote try the size up. If it's a true wrap, you may be able to get the neckline to sit higher up with more material to work with.

I'll just add, that the purple dress looks lovely on you, and sits right on the neckline to my eye. Ideally the new one should look like this too. As per my previous comment, it seemed too wide on the V. With the right fitting, this style of dress really suits you!!

I remember seeing your post on the purple dress and love that one!

I simply no longer expect true wraps to function like faux wraps--they just don't work for me and give me the same problems you've run into. So I don't consider them anymore. But faux wraps, yes.
