K/r Karen Millen sweater: Angie, try smaller size or pass?

Here is the Karen Millen tunic over the 3x1 skinnies. I like the knit of the sweater but I'm not wild about the big hi/low and the big slit in the side. Also, it feels like it completely duplicates the shape of my beloved grey wool shift (last pic). This is an expensive tunic so has to be a 10. Inclined to R. What do you think?

Ps sorry for no makeup face. Have not yet worked out today.

I like it, and it seems more oversized than the shift, but it is awfully similar. If you are in doubt and not in love, I would say return. Bummer. It is harder than it looks to find a statement sweater. I have ordered and returned MANY potential statement sweaters this season, alas.

Thanks Suz. I think it's just too oversized for me -- too much length, too much fabric, not enough structure. Oh well.

But, if someone else is intrigued, it is 20% off today -- as is all of KM's AW line.

I really love it from the front, but am not 100% crazy about the side view. I'd like to see a bit more structure there too.

ETA: I'll never stop loving that fantastic grey dress on you:-)

Hmm. It looks far boxier on you that it does on the model . And, yeah, it's very similar to your grey shift, which I WANT! Holy mother of dresses - that is perfect. Where is this from? Can I have one too?

Back to the KM tunic. Wondering if I should buy it from you. How much did you pay for it?

I paid $200 for this tunic, Lisa. Today it's on sale for 20 percent off tho, if you can order direct from KM. I'm happy to send it to you if you want it; just let me know. If you want it I can also see if they will give me a price adjustment to get that 20 percent.

The grey wool shift is one of my fave dresses of all time. It was a Black Friday purchase at Madewell about five years ago and it always makes me feel fab. I adore it. I will definitely wear it next week, and I'd love styling ideas for it.

I quite like it, Vivian, and I think it reads differently than the dress (as in, it's clearly a sweater and the other is a dress) but I could see that maybe they'd compete for outfits with the same bottoms, if ykwim.

IMO, its nice, but not a 10. i actually like the oversizedness (if that's a word), i'm not in love with the neck line....

I think you'd need to try a size down and I do agree that's it's a pretty close duplicate to what you already have. It'll always nice when you save $200.

AviaMariah, I think you are right -- the smaller size might have worked better. This one just feels like too much. But I'm not entirely sure about the neck (kkards!), the side view (Inge!), or about the shape/color duplication.

Wondering if it is worth a try in the smaller size, especially since I can now get it for $160. Still a lot, but less. Hmmm.

Angie, are you out there? Any thoughts? Try smaller size, or pass?

I love it but as you know, it's a look you need to own. It is pretty similar to the other one. I think sizing down would not work, like the Gap sweater was on me. Who knew oversized would be so hard to get just right? You'd think the whole point would be lack of exactitude!

Vivian, Angie and Greg are on a plane to South Africa as we speak, and Angie won't be around as much during the next fortnight. See yesterday's blog post.

If it's not too much of a hassle, I think trying the size down is a good idea. It really is a fab tunic, and the smaller size might be slightly less voluminous but still fluid and flowy.

If it helps: to my eye, this tunic has a different vibe than your fab shift dress. The shift dress (a woven fabric?) is deliciously mod, while this knit tunic is more like a polished casual sweater dress. So even though the colours are similar, there might be room for both in your closet?

I think I'm the odd one out as I think I might prefer this new one to the other shift. I really like the longer sleeves and the neckline and where it hits your thighs in front, just a bit higher it seems. I would want to try the smaller size due to the side view, but it's pretty nice...

Edit- okay, so I should have read more comments first, seems that I am not really the odd one out and others do like it too.

Inge, thank you for responding on Angie's behalf - I missed that blog post!

I just tried it on again, and I have to say it is growing on me. it's a different shape and definitely a statement and I think it's taking me some time to get used to it.

I'm going to think about it a little more. I don't think the size down will work -- I don't think the sleeves will be right (too tight and too short), and the neck will potentially be too tight as well. So I need to try this one again. Maybe restyled with makeup and hair.

Hmm, I think you're right: your gray shift has a cool retro look that is much happier on you; that little bit of extra structure wins. Stick with your dress & buy something else that makes you smile!

I really like it Viva- it has a more modern feel to me than the dress, and would lend itself to different pants underneath- even wide legged ones.
I also vote for trying in a smaller size before you make-up your mind

The thing that would bother me about adding something similar is the short sleeves.
Yes, it's a nice look but it borders on seasonally confused, for me, as compared to a sweater dress/tunic with sleeves (could scrunch or not).
So given the gray dress, if you still plan to wear it (would be different if you were looking to definitely replace it) I would tend to wear them for the same weather and occasions and might think it's too much of a dupe.

I think this looks really nice on you. It seems as though the photo may be skewed a bit on the side view pic, that may be throwing you off as well. I love everything about this outfit and it suits you well. I love the last one as well but it is different, if you tend to wear a lot if neutrals you would wear both wouldn't you? The first tunic likely looks really good in motion.
