K/R Jean Shopping - YouLookFab Forum

So, I hate jean shopping, no secret there. But what i hate more are lazy on line retailers that don't make sure they have proper size charts by brand. Half the jeans I bought didn't fit, even though I bought the size onthe size chart. ARG! Curse you Macy's!!

I tried these all on with my Danskos which have a 2inch heel - higher than I nromally wear my comfort zone is betwen 1/2 inch to 1.5 inches.

Jean #1 - Comes complete with pre-whiskering. After Angie's post on avoiding whiskering, not sure why jeans would do that. Waist is way too big and they are very long.

Jeans#2 - Also have whiskering. Also too long, also huge in the waist. They look really unflattering now that see I see them uploaded. I think these are a definate return.

Jeans#3 - More whiskering. Also really long, also huge in the waist.

Jeans #4 - So long a stepping on them. Huge at the waist. More whiskering, which I think jeans just do on purpose.

Jeans #5 - Same as all of the above.

Other than the embarressment of having to return every single pair, I am thinking of doing just that. I think none of them are flattering now that I see them in pictures.

Will check Kohl's for the Lees, and maybe try Boston Store for NYDJs next.

Thistle, you are a champion. I love your expression in some of these shots. It is exactly how I feel when trying on jeans, too. Ugh.

Well, they are not right for you, so onwards! I am so glad you have free shipping and returns.

Quite honestly, some of them don't look bad in the pics, BUT you are there and know the fit issues more intimately. And I believe you.

OK - first off, these don't look near as bad as what you think! And - I bet that no matter what pair of jeans that you try on, you are going to have to shorten them and have them tailored to fit your waist! So, with that being said - I would still return all of these - but ONLY because I don't think all of the pocket detail is doing you any favors. I would look for a pair that does not have pocket flaps or embellishments or a bunch of funky patterns on them! Hang in there Thistle - jeans shopping is painful - but sooooo worth it when you find that perfect pair!

I second the Macy's rant. I've been trying dresses for weddings and need to return all of them except one that can maybe be tailored. I think you're right and these jeans need to go back if they're not making you happy.

The ladies are right, jeans shopping is painful. I agree with all of the comments. First, these don't even look as bad as you think. You just need to go for less embellishment and perhaps more tone on tone stitching, as Marley pointed out.

The issue for me is length, they are never long enough. You perhaps need the waist taken in, which is pretty common for us pears. i just leave mine a bit loose to prevent muffin top, the ultimate nemesis of my existence.

Hang in there, you are awesome! Return the loot and regroup.

I agree that these should all go back and with what was suggested on this thread. A waist alteration is going to be your ticket once you have the fit sorted. And actually, these look MUCH better than you think. Whiskering on jeans is fine - it's often intentional.

Well at least you are smart enough to return things that don't work! I often just force them to work, shame on me :). I admire your persistence!

It is the walk of shame into Macy's with the box of doesn't works. But, oh well! I want jeans I love and want to wear. I know me. I will squirrel them away in the back of my closet if I don't love them!

It's funny because my inexpensive Levi's (by comparison) worked better than Kut or Lucky's or DKNY or Silver.

Jeans shopping is tough for *everyone.* They have to be just so, and none of our bottoms are exactly the same. I agree with everyone else that you should expect to have to shorten and taper the waist. Then all you have to focus on is the fit through hip, thigh, and knee and the back pocket placement.

Have you ever tried Hello Skinny Jeans? They are not sold at many places, but I think I saw them on Oprah or something like that. I got a pair once and really loved them except that I have a freakishly short rise.

Yes dont despairThistle, you just havent found the right ones yet!
When I wanted some white jeans I tried on about 40 pairs! no I'm not exagerating. Any time I went past a shop with white jeans I would duck in and try them on. I just decided that it was nothing personal, I just had to find the ones for me.
I eventually found a great pair in a really cheap little shop I wouldn't normaly even have looked at. So dont worry, you'll find some great jeans I'm sure.

Denim shopping depresses me, kudos to you for such a concentrated effort. I'm so lazy I prefer to just not wear them.

No walk of shame. It's THEM and their *off* size charts! I have no shame. I return ALL the time. Off tomorrow to Nordies to return those silver Tildon oxfords that attracted my magpie eyes but so feel on my feet like the cheap shoes they are. Out of my system & time to move on.

Jeans are hard. I gave up even looking for five or ten years. Too bad you have the Casual Friday pressure. Ummm, couldn't you substitute a denim jacket for jeans on the bottom and argue that you wouldn't want to offend those who have a poison eye for denim on denim?

I try on 20 pairs for every good pair. I will say, if you go to Kohl's that I find Lee runs small. I love Levis (and you have a pair, don't you?), and I have a great pair of J.Lo boyfriends from there that I love. She cuts for curves (duh).

I also adore my JAG bootcuts. You can see them in Kari's post with her cobalt blouse from this evening. These are pull-on, so no tucking in of tops, but they are amazingly comfy. Mine were $64, which is reasonable. I found mine on the plains of Kansas, but I think they carry them at Nordies.

Totally reasonable! I would pay a lot for a magical pair of jeans that worked. Especially if they just appeared on my doorstep and didn't make me try 27 new pairs of jeans to find them!
