K/R: J. Crew purple houndstooth blazer

I bought this blazer on impulse today while shopping in-store. What do you all think? The color is truest to my second photo, and not at all like either of the stock photos online. I'm a fan of the print and am always in need of mid-weight jackets--I would wear this as an outdoor jacket that I don't take off indoors--but is it too long on me? Or too formal for a casual workplace? (Petite sizes are not available in this style, alas, but the sleeves are surprisingly OK so maybe it's meant to be longer?)

Hmm, I love the color on you for sure. The fit looks much better in photo #2 vs. #1. In #1 it looks a little big overall. Could you try it in a size down?

I love this jacket (and have been admiring it for awhile) but it looks a bit large on you, so I agree with Tanya.

Great jacket -- Such a fabulous fabric! But I agree with Tanya and UmmLila that it looks a bit large. Try one size down.

Hmm--I could try a size down, but I'm worried that it would be too small in the shoulders. The photos are showing the size 0 which is my typical J.Crew size, and the shoulder width feels exactly right (although I agree with you that it sometimes looks a bit large). I sometimes wear 00 but never in jackets; the size XXS downtown field jacket that I also tried on today, for example, was too tight in the shoulders.

Still, I'm willing to go back to the store or order the size 00 if that's the consensus...

The arms look a bit too long. That's all I see.
I don't think it's too dressy for a casual workplace. I work in a very casual workplace and wouldn't hesitate to wear this with jeans and flats. I like the fabric.

ETA: it might look a little wide through the body. Does it feel a bit wide?

Love the jacket and color! Having broad shoulders myself I often have to have my tailor "adjust" the fit on jackets.

I live Thad print and color on you.
I agree the fit looks a bit off, and from photos I can't tell if if it's keep- size- and - tailor vs. size down. Worth exploring further, though.

Beautiful on you, and I don't think you need a smaller size. The sleeves are a bit long, but not overly so, and I know too well that, unless you can find what you want in Petite sizing, sleeves will be long. I was lucky enough to find a very similar Talbot Petites jacket (black & white bird's eye check with pink felt undercollar) in a thrift shop this year--a perfect fit for $10! But that sort of serendipity doesn't happen every day. Your jacket is beautifully tailored, and a great color.

Thanks everyone for chiming in! The Find was fixed today so I went back to add it and discovered that the size 00 is sold out already. I'd been meaning to explore the idea of tailoring, anyway, as some of you mentioned it looks a bit wide through the body--I think it does have some room there, whereas the shoulders are pretty fitted already.

I don't think it looks too big. I love the J. Crew Regent blazer, I own two in this style. The sleeves on the Regent are longer on me too, and the cut is supposed to be a longer length. I vote keep, it's gorgeous!

I bought that same jacket a few weeks ago but haven't worn it yet because it's been so warm here. I did have second thoughts about it, but seeing it on you makes me feel better. I have long arms so sleeve length is not a problem.

I think it looks good on you. This is a wool jacket, after all, and where I live I need room for a sweater underneath.

I tried on the jacket again tonight--I actually don't have a ton of room for tailoring, because my waist is larger/undefined. I could potentially get darts put into the bust for a closer fit there, but it'd be an expensive alteration for maybe not a noticeable difference.

I like the blazer much more when I think of it as, like MsMaven called it, a wool jacket. It's a good outerwear fit! In my climate, it's not impractical to treat it as such, either. I'll mull it over some more and allow myself to cut the tags if I want to wear it some morning.

I think the color is great for you! The sleeves look long in pic 1 to me, but ok in pic 2, so hard to really tell, but o/w I thought it looked like a nice fit.

I love the traditional blazer shape and pattern in a fresh color - I think it would be great for a casual office. It could be paired with neutral skinnies or with denim.
