K/R: high-low coral chiffon dress

The high-low hem chiffon dress I ordered last week as a potential rehearsal dinner dress has arrived. What do you think about the style and the fit? I think the top part is a little long and poofs out in a funny way. In photo #4, I am lifting up the shoulders slightly to attempt to reduce some of the extra fabric. This is a regular length, unfortunately petite is sold out in my size. I also wonder if a larger size would poof less because the waist would be not quite so fitted?

Also, that weird horizontal line in the front is (I think) from my underwear; I'd wear seamless underwear for real!

Last photo is a stock photo from Nordies' (although I ordered this one from NM) to show the true color. It's coral and not orange like it appears in my photos.

PS-on my feet are the Marc Jacobs gold sandals that Angie suggested. I like them a lot but am waiting for the other contender (Born) before doing a K/R.

ETA: Added a couple more photos (6&7) with the shoulders clipped up. I think this fixes the saggy bust problem.

Is this the Suzi Chin dress, Diana? It's perfectly suited and festive for the rehearsal dinner, IMO. The color is absolutely gorgeous on you, but I see what you mean about the fabric at the bodice. Hm. It's so lovely and perfect in all the other places. Could you get it altered?

I've also found that Suzi Chin runs big in the bodice. Regular sizes usually fit me well, but I've had to return several dresses of this brand for the same reason. I'm afraid a bigger size would just mean MORE fabric in the bodice.

Nancy, the brand is Ivy&Blu for Maggy Boutique, which also makes Suzi Chin, so I think it's basically the dressier version of the white "goddess" dress. This one is chiffon and not jersey so it has no stretch which means I can't size down since the rib cage won't fit otherwise. Oddly, I wonder if sizing UP might fix the issue since the rib cage band would be looser so there'd be less of a difference between the band and upper part.

Grecian Goddess! The colour of this dress looks great on you. I would certainly look into the possibility of alterations.

Hm. That's hard to know, Diana. I'm not an expert on fit but my gut says you'd just end up with more fabric.

That said, it wouldn't hurt to order a bigger size, though, and try it. The color and cut are so lovely and festive. I think this has real potential as a rehearsal dinner dress.

I love this on you! This is how the dress was meant to look! However, I see what you mean about fit issues. Hmmm, do you have a super awesome tailor you could show it to? See if the alteration is even possible?

Oh wow - this is so beautiful!! I hope there is some way of adjusting the fit or getting one that does fit. Because that is a deal-breaker at the moment. But if it can be made to fit properly....actually, maybe order the larger size would be the solution because you could get it tailored just perfectly for you. That would add to the price, of course.

I know you are not asking yet, but I LOVE the sandals!!!!

You look heavenly. The color is absolutely divine on you -- goddess indeed. I love the gold shoes too How I wish I could wear a dress like that -- too much scaffolding required to get it to look nice.

I don't think sizing up will help. It looks like the dress is snug because the bust, waist, & hips are in the wrong place-- too low (you do need a petite). Can you have the shoulders taken up -- that would get rid of the extra fabric too. Is it worth it to have it tailored?

Hmm, if it's just taking the shoulders up, I can do it myself. I'll try pinning it to see. I don't have a tailor I trust aside from my mom, but I won't see her until 2 days before the event. (I have trust/control issues with tailors, LOL). I might hold off for a week or two, though, to see if the petite pops back at Nordies.

You don't need to size down, it would be too tight in the tummy area. Altering the bodice should be a pretty simple alteration. There are not many high - low dresses which pass my filter but this one does. It is going to be stunning on you.

Is is available anywhere besides Nordie's in petite? Might be worth doing a search for that.

Suz, the only place I could find that carries this dress in petites is Nordies'. Even the Maggy Boutique website itself does not seem to have it.

If you can get it altered at the shoulders, than it is a stunner. The color is gorgeous on you and I love the sandals too.

Diana, fingers crossed that you can have the bodice altered. It's otherwise lovely. And I really like the shoes!

The dress will be stunning on you with alterations and seamless nude underwear. If it's from Nordstrom's won't they do the alterations for you?
The gold sandals are beautiful too.

Have you gone to a Nordies B'n'M and had them use their computer to search other stores? Sometimes when something is out online, a store will still have the item. Be sure to take the Petite size item number since it will be different than the regular size item number. It is such a gorgeous dress on you.

Joy, it's not from Nordies'. I had to buy it from Neiman Marcus because Nordies' is sold out in my size. (Also, it is very difficult for me to get to B&M Nordies so getting them to do alterations is actually not very practical...)

ETA: Donna, that's a good idea. As I mentioned, it's hard for me to get to the actual store, but I could definitely call and ask about the petite.

I would definitely call and ask about the petite and tell them the reason you are looking. It might make them a bit more assiduous in their searching. I have a feeling the petite would just feel better overall, you know? And it's worth it.

I love the style of this and hope you can make it work. Is the waist comfy? I can't tell if it looks tight or if it is just the poofy bust that is tricking my eyes.

It's a great dress on you, Diana! I also don't think sizing down will work, but taking the bodice up in the shoulder seams should be easy. I'd also try to find the dress in a size up and in a petite, just to compare the fit. This is definitely your color!

I hope the sandals work out, because they look fab in these photos.

Diana, it is just beautiful. Is it worth an alteration at the shoulder? Other than the issue you point out it really is an incredibly flattering and gorgeous dress on you.

Rae, I think the waistband is fine tightness-wise, but it is slightly too long (again, a petite would be better) so it's scrunching up slightly. Haha, I think it is supposed to be an empire waist but on me it comes down to my natural waist.

Added a couple of photos up top with the dress clipped up at the shoulders; I think this fixes the saggy bust problem to a large extent. I would still like to try a petite if I can track it down but altering the shoulders will work well enough too.

Lovely choice! Yes, there's a slight issue, but both the possible fixes would likely work. Love this for the rehearsal dinner --- the shoes, too!
