K/R: Halogen menswear plaid jacket

Something tickled my fancy about this one-- the style reminds me of the 80s and my college days. Front & side pics, buttoned and unbuttoned, and with sleeves pushed up. I like it best unbuttoned.

I think it's a keeper but you tell me? It feels comfortable. Does it work with the white booties or do those shorten the leg line too much? Does it draw attention to my apple belly or hide it? Do we even care? Is it just flattering enough? Does it remind you of the 80s too? (Except without the giant shoulder pads).

And how to style it other than as shown? I was thinking column of black (pants & top), and over a black dress.

i was thinking about how fashion forward the white booties were with the outfit.

definitely 80s reminiscent. i had a trench in a very very similar pattern that i nicked from my then-boyfriend. you look better in this jacket. especially like it open.

Wow, this is amazing on you! I love it as-is.
Does it work with the white booties or do those shorten the leg line too much? Doesn't shorten the leg line and the white boots are a perfect 80's complement.

Does it draw attention to my apple belly or hide it? Hides it. I don't notice it, even when I'm looking for it.

Do we even care?
Well, I don't care, but it's up to you I personally like to hide things most days, and when I'm feeling confident, I will do a just-flattering-enough outfit.

Is it just flattering enough? More than JFE, it is really flattering!

Does it remind you of the 80s too? (Except without the giant shoulder pads). Yes, a little, but it doesn't look like you've had this sitting in your closet. It looks trendy.

I love it! The plaid seems done in a larger pattern (if that makes sense--like it's blown up) and that, plus the color combo, makes it very unique. I've been yearning for a similar jacket, and I too have memories of a similar one I wore in the 80s (borrowed from my grandpa!). I love it with these jeans and white booties.

Seeing the model wearing it with a shirt buttoned all the way up reminds me that in the 80s I'd wear similar jackets over a blouse buttoned up and with a brooch at the neckline.

I like it, and the white booties as well. It's hard to tell from your photo, because of perspective, if it's crazy long on you or just a little. Either way, shorter women (I include myself here) sometime have to just embrace that. I have a similar blazer and white boots. I like the look with a red top underneath to pick up the line in the blazer.

UmmLila, yeah the perspective of the camera is overly shortening my legs -- albeit my legs are indeed short! Younger me would totally have refused to wear this blazer without heels. Older me barely ever wears heels anymore.

I think you are right in that it's just a tad too long, including where the button hits, compared to the model. My natural waist is rather high, basically right under rib cage.. It's 0.5-1" too long, max, torso wise, yet the sleeves are the perfect length? If I sized down the vertical length might be better but fairly sure it wouldn't fit width wise. Also might not be as "relaxed" looking. And then the sleeves might be too short? As well as too tight? The sleeves on this are fairly narrow which I rather like.

The line in the blazer is actually orange, not red. I don't "do" orange but with this plaid it's nominal. Do you think I could pair this with my red clutch, even though the lines are orange not red?

Love the jacket--looks fabulous on you with the sleeves scrunched up. As another belly-conscious person I can say that I wouldn't have noticed it, even side view, and still don't see it.

I avoid double breasted jackets, but seeing this on you is tempting to me.

MsMaven, I generally avoid double breasted as well. I do think jackets with a single button set up high at natural waist, and that hit at high hip, are ideal for figure flattering/leg lengthening/slimming and that's the shape of 90% of my jackets.

But the LOFT navy peacoat I recently bought has had me second guessing. And also the merino wool Jcrew sweater jacket I bought last year -- which I sized way up as that was the only size left, so it basically fits me oversized rather than fitted, very much like this Halogen blazer is fitting, except in a sweater knit. And I kinda like that look too -- again because it totally reminds me of the 80s!

I love this line! We don't care! We will wear our giant 80s style jackets even if they are actually vintage from the 80s and not current modern retro and much easier on the eye ones like this. Yes I am projecting; obviously. .

I confess I'm not a big fan of this bulky double-breasted style -- I'm not a big 80s style person in general and it gives me too many flashbacks to that era -- but it looks good on you, with the boots and all.

I like it and I’m not usually a double breasted fan. I think your red clutch would be great. Look at Angie’s post today mixing fuschia orange and red.

Well, I never would have guessed you could look so stylish in a double breasted blazer but there you are! Perfect with the white booties. Looks best when not buttoned because we shorter waisted women often need that "vertical line" as Angie always suggests. I say keep the jacket. Good find.

The higher button placement makes it feel really modern and seems more flattering.

Great jacket and the pattern gives a lot of possibilities for color pairings. I would totally wear it with red - being that a clutch or top/pants, also beige, cream, and denim like on the model.
