K/R: Grandpa Sweater

Actually this is a wool shawl collar sweater. It is a bright teal. The color doesn't show up very well. I was wondering if you think it's too long or just unflattering. I'm including the very unattractive back view. Please be honest. Should I return it?

I looked back at your WIW posts to get an idea of your shape under the sweater, and it is a very nice shape. My personal experience with knits of this weight and texture is that they add visual bulk, which isn't personally anything I wish to add to my middle. You looked so cute in your poncho outfit, and so cute in your boxy jacket with the pockets, and I don't think that this cardigan, however pretty the color on you, is up to that standard.

I have to agree with KikiG. I do not think the style and cut of this sweater is the best (a bit dated, perhaps?)... although the color is fabulous. Perhaps it is something about the styling that is also making me think "no" on this one. I have a couple of bulky button-down shawl collar grandpa cardigans that I have held onto for several years because they are soooo cozy. I almost got rid of them a couple years back, but I am now liking them worn open with flared jeans and a wrap style top -- a sort of retro 1970's look. I may try them this winter with culottes and tall boots.

KikiG, thank you for compliments and your thoughts. The sweater is cozy and soft, but that's not enough, I guess.

El Cee, I think you might be right about the style being outdated. I'm going to return it.

I like the color on you, but agree with El Cee that the fit of the sweater is not the best.

I love the colour and chunky ribs, and the shawl collar, but I feel like the length is neither here nor there. I'd prefer it fitted and cropped at the hip, or else mid-thigh length and drapier. I find that low hip length very hard to wear with chunky knits like this.

I agree with others about style, the color is nice but I think it is not enough to keep it so you decision to return it is OK.

Nodding along with the others. For me, this is the type of sweater that might work well for lounging but as a fashion item it would end up annoying me. Not only does it seem a bit dated, but it's also a difficult weight/ length to layer over (which I would need to do in my climate but you might not.) But I understand the appeal. It looks really cozy and soft.

I am also nodding in agreement with the others. You certainly don't look like a blob, but this one is definitely not a 10, like your other outfits are. On to the next!

Another vote for return. It looks pretty, warm, and soft but doesn't have much of a shape. I've been trying really hard lately to avoid garments that have this same "no shape" thing going on, because I just don't find it flattering on me. I don't think it's very flattering on most other people either.

I'm saying the SWEATER has no shape, not that YOU have no shape

I think this grandpa style would look modern if oversized (think thigh length) and the lapel was lower. As it is, it looks like nice warm gear, nothing wrong with that but obviously you want more.

I agree with peacechick about the oversize thing. But since it's not oversized, I'd also take a pass.

The color is fab, but I tend to think that this style/cut wouldn't be a *10* on anybody, even those cute young bloggers. But it sure looks cozy!
