Shopping for jeans - pics 1 and 2 are Gap bootcuts, pics 3 and 4 are Old Navy bootcuts.

Is anything a keeper, or should I return both?

I am going to be really awkward and say that I prefer the Gap ones for the front and the Old Navy at the back

My test with jeans is always how do the perform in the sit down test.

I prefer the Old Navy. But I think my opinion might be jaded because I am not fond of the Gap wash.

Karie, I have said it before and shall say it again: you were made for jeans and look fabulous in them all.

So . I agree with LondonKiwi and say a sit down test is key. Followed by a consideration of wash and fabrication. Look at the fibre content. It will tell you about bag-out potential and shrink likelihood. Also decide how you feel about fade vs. dark, colours of stitching, etc.

I like the Gap pair better but that could be because I prefer less contrast with the stitching.

i was ready to say gap before i even looked because i generally have better luck there than o/n ... but in this case, i think they both look great; i'll go for the wash you prefer, or keep both if that's in the budget! o/n wash looks a bit dressier to me.

I prefer the Gap because I like the wash and less stich contrast. My experience with ON jeans has been that they shrink a lot even when I don't really dry them. I've only had a few pair and ended up passing those on. I've had better luck with Gap fitting long term.

Not sure if I'm keeping either one....I'm not crazy about the fabrication of the Old Navy jeans - I have a pair of their skinnies and they fit great when I first put them on, but after wearing them for awhile, they start feeling like they're falling down Not sure if these will do that or not.

The slight gap in the back of the Gap jeans is an easy fix with a tuck, and the lower thigh area is a little loose IRL on these - fine now, but not if the fabric relaxes with wear - again, an easy fix with my sewing machine.

I think this is why I love BF jeans - I'm looking for a perfect fit with other jeans and it doesn't exist!

I prefer the gap but its because I don't like high contrast stitching on dark jeans.

The ON pair looks too big. I like the Gap pair on you, but did you try one size down as well?

I'd say try the sit test. I'd say go with the Gap jeans because I'm biased and love Gap jeans. I've had Old Navy ones they they bagged out pretty bad between washes.
