K/R: Gap Tencel denim shirt

This shirt caught my eye because of the color - then I saw it is Tencel which is a bonus for me as it drapes. It took me a minute to figure out why I liked it on me - it has NO CHEST POCKETS! There's a hidden placket and a smaller collar than most denim shirts. It's a little more tailored than I usually wear but not uncomfortable. The hem is actually a bit curved and has side vents.

All opinions welcome!

Absolutely love it Una and think it would be a great "cross over" piece - can be worn casually and perhaps for work as well, depending on its supporting act.

I have a tencel denim shirt I purchasrd several years ago from Anthropologie and love it. I vote keep.

Shannon, I was actually thinking it could go to work with my leather skirt and booties.

We are having ridiculous weather right now. It's 45 and pouring. Icy roads. Puddles. My patent booties have doubled as rain boots!

Do you love it? Will you wear it? If so, to what and when?

Are you sure you will wear it (is it similar, a hole etc.)

If you are certain you love it and will wear it, I say go for it. It fits you very well and looks terrific. But I would hate for it to be orphaned as it is not the right piece for you right now.

Thistle, good question! Like many here, I have been on a Quixotic quest for The Denim Shirt. I have two in my closet that will exit if this one stays - one too shapeless, the other too Western. It's either going to be a workhorse or an orphan - and sometimes I don't know that till I've struggled a bit. At least no tags have yet been ripped!

It does look good--for me it's a lot about the feel--if the Tencel drapes nicely and it's not too tight. I think it does not look tight but, I have to wave arms and try out IRL to avoid that pulling thing. So it looks tailored but not skimpy. Just be careful of shrinkage.
Although for me they're mostly casual, I can totally relate to a "denim/chambray shirt capsule" since I want different things--more roomy and longer to wear over slimmer jeans or sporty capri's, a little shorter to wear out casually over pencil skirts, the most dressy one one that will tuck in, med blue vs. darker--and then there are the pockets, stitching, snaps, color of metals.
I think I only "need" 2 ( maybe 3!) but have not been impressed that I can get the one shirt to rule them all--denim can overwhelm me--so instead I try to get the best one for a certain use.
A no-pocket one that does not look too big or frumpy is a good find!

Unfrumped, it's not too tight - I am an inveterate arm-waver! - but does it look too tight? Or am I just not used to fitted? I could probably size up for a bit more drape and length.

I like it! And I know how the hunt for the "right" denim/chambray shirt can seem to go on forever. The color is great and it's a nice streamlined version.

I noticed it too! Looks fab, especially for the price. My only concern would be shrinkage, since Tencel is high-tech rayon, which is shrinkage prone. But maybe Gap has dealt with this at the manufacturing level. It should be very comfortable in hot weather.

Oh, it really does have nice drape. How do you feel about the closed neckline?

I voted nay, only because it reminds me of the 90s a lot in the silhouette and it doesn't seem as fashion forward as you prefer to be. There's nothing wrong with it - it fits well - it just seems very un-current.

(Maybe it's actually normcore? Where's the line between frumpy and intentionally frumpy? What is the sound of one hipster dressing?)

Ok...I almost decided not to post this...Forgive me for being the dissenting voice in a sea of yeas however, I would be remiss not to tell you that I had an experience with a Tercel denim shirt...Mine was just too creepy feeling...I guess I am used to the soft of cotton...I tried to love it..wore it and always felt just not right..Finally I donated it and hope someone else is happy with my shirt...There, I've told you...You just be sure you can live with the fabric and you will be set...smile..

I love tencel, and I really like this shirt. I say keep it if you love it, it fits perfectly and is your style.

Thanks for all the feedback! I have decided this is going back. The key was that I didn't feel like ripping tags and wearing it immediately. I want to like it, but I fear that much like the "necessary" white button-down, it is not for me. I think it is a bit too normcore. Oh well!
