K/R: Gap Red Blazer and Striped Sweater

These are the two items I picked up Gap at lunch time when I had to return the larger size of the yellow sweater I bought.

The blazer is a saturated red tomato colour and fits really well in the shoulder. The sleeves are too long so I've cuffed for now. It's a bit snug done up but the size up was too big in the shoulders. I think it's good - what do you think? It was regular $109 and I got it for $34.99 (same price as the sweater I was returning so a straight swap). I can see this with many items in my wardrobe.

The sweater is a black/red/white striped loose and light knit with 3/4 length sleeves. Very soft and comfortable. In speaking with the SA, it is a slightly oversized slouchy style so is supposed to be fairly loose. I'm picturing this with skinnies/bootcuts for casual wear, my white denim jeans and even a black pencil skirt. I notice my bra shows a bit in the photo so would either need a cami underneath or a nude bra (this one is white). It was regular $49.99 and I paid $23.99.

What are your thoughts on these two items? Keep or return?

I like the blazer! Is this the one that also came in pomegranate (hot pink) earlier in the season? The fit looks good and the price is (now) right! I'm at a loss what you have for bright blazers. I know you have the dotted red one. Do you have a green one too? Is this a hole you've been looking to fill? I really, really like the striped sweater for your style. It's fab with those jeans, and how cute would it be with the Doc Marcies? Even though the blazer is structured and would last longer, I'm almost preferring the bang for your style buck that the striped sweater seems to bring to the table. Is this an either/or or a both/and K/R?

ETA: I'd try a black cami or tank under the pullover.

The blazer is great - reminds me of my j. crew boyfriend blazer. Definitely keep!

Not loving the color scheme on the striped sweater - it's a little too busy for my eye.

Anna - is there anything in particular off about the sweater? Just curious.

Claire - what do I have for bright blazers? My longer magenta coloured one, the red/white polka dot one, my darker blue vintage one and that's it for coloured ones (I have white, black, animal print, and gold for non coloured). Although I have the red/white polka dot, this solid one is more versatile so I don't consider that a duplicate, if that makes any sense. It's not a true hole in my wardrobe but...due to the discounts, I can keep both if they are worthy. BTW the blazer looks fab on top of the sweater - too hot for summer but come fall would be good. It would also work with my black button down under the sweater.

I like both of these for you, Shannon! The blazer is so much fun, and you look comfortable in it, always a good sign. At the price, it's a great deal, considering how much black and white and grey and navy and other red-friendly colours you wear.

I understand what Claire is saying about the sweater because it looks like a fun piece you can dress up or down, and while we know you have a lot of blazers, we don't see you so often in sweaters. And we all know how much fun it is to have something "different" in our wardrobes from time to time!

Suz - I do have an EXCESS of blazers (ha!) but I love them. However I'm also trying to build up my casual wardrobe as that is an area I'm seriously lacking in. I don't know if you remember but way back I had posted about wanting to try my 70/30 rule - 70% of my wardrobe needed to be compatible with both work and casual and 30% could be strictly dedicated to one or the other. I think this sweater (and the yellow striped one previously posted) fall in my 70% category.

I do like both. I like how the wide white stripes of the sweater don't hit at your widest parts. The middle one also draws the eye to your high waist, which keeps you looking pretty leggy even with out a belt, tuck, or topper.

Are you officially quitting SYC? For a bit, I think I remember you were interested in trying again for June and only allowing for your summer dresses.

I think I am officially quitting SYC Rae. I'm not the easiest size/shape to fit so I think when I do come across an item that works with my wardrobe, is within my price range and fits, I need to BBQ. So I guess I'm officially switching from SYC to SYB.

Claire - this is not the same as the pink or green blazer at Gap. Those were a knit. This fabrication is more like a suit jacket blazer. I only saw it in this colour and it's no longer available on their website.

LOVE the blazer. I am also attracted to stripes so I like the sweater, it's just ok. Maybe i prefer more subtle stripes with less contrast, but for the price if you like it go for it.

I think the sweater (jumper lol) is lovely. I think depending on styling the jumper can go one of two ways:) But I like the colors on you and the width of the stripes. And you know what? You look really happy in the sweater and that speaks volumes.

Love them both! What a deal on that blazer! I'm quite fond of the sweater exactly as you've styled it for the pic (with a cami underneath of course). It's a great MOTG look.

You definitely need a cami under that sweater. I think it is a keeper too. I can see it as a very nice MOTG piece.

Oh, you can fit the sweater under the blazer? SOLD! That combo will be great for early spring or for fall, too. Keep both, please.

I like both. I think the sweater is very versatile, you can dress it up or down. The blazer is really nice too. Did you try the two of them together? They will look awesome with a pair of dark wash jeans and black boots, comes fall. I like the idea of a black cami underneath.

Love the blazer! Makes me want to shop retail! I like the sweater but it looks a bit big or long to me, even if it supposed to look that way. I do like the colors and stripes on you - just strikes me as long for some reason.
