K/R Gap Floral Dress

About a week ago, I asked in a thread with a few questions, what you thought of this dress for me. There were varied responses and I decided I wouldn't really know how it would work for me unless I tried it.

It arrived today so here it is for your review/comments. I simply took it out of the bag and popped it on so it is quite wrinkled. I added my blue booties and took two pics with the dress on its own and two with a denim jacket as a quick styling. It has pockets, elastic waist and is fully lined. I have added my own white leather belt at the waist. It is very soft cotton and I love the colours and pattern.

I will reserve my opinion until a little later as I would like COMPLETELY honest feedback.

On its own, I think it's a bit too twee, mostly because of the fluttery sleeves. It's better with the jacket, but do you want to be limited?

I love the colours on you, but I don't like the proportions of the skirt to bodice alone. I think it looks better with a topper, but when it gets really hot that won't work.

I like it better with the jacket. I don't care for the grown on sleeve. If you could get rid of those, I think it would work. Fun floral print.

I love the pattern & colours on you but I don't like how the style makes you look short-waisted - that's why it looks much better with the jacket I think.
It also seems a tad short - but that could be the fullness.

I like everything but the sleeve - too cutesy. Otherwise this looks way better than I expected!

OK, I'll start off by saying that I may be projecting...
Anyway, to me this dress makes you look very short waisted, especially without the jacket. I have tried on so many fit-and-flare dresses lately with this issue. I think it's a combo of the full, poofy skirt and the fitted high waist that really messes with the proportions.

I am not sure this is the right summer dress for you but I do like the colours. I find it too twee and I struggle with a poofy skirt.

I liked it then read other comments & agree about the short waisted thing, but with the jacket it isnt an issue. Perhaps without the belt it wouldn't make you look short waisted either.

So you ready for my feelings on this dress? Love the colours and pattern....HATE the way I look in it!

Diana has hit the nail on the head regarding short waistedness. In this dress, I feel like my waist is right underneath my armpits (which it just about is, but we don't have to advertise it, do we?) and that my hips are hippo width. When I looked in the mirror, I literally said under my breath "oh no...no....no...".

But in the interest of transparency, I felt the need to post the pics anyway since I had brought up the dress in the first place.

Hey....at least it's not as bad as the gorilla vest??? - lol!

Honestly I like it much less than your other dresses - and you have a superb collection! Cannot really articulate why, just does not do you justice.:-(

Sorry, Shannon, but this is not the dress for you. The colors are pretty, but the waist is totally off.
Maybe if you wore it WITH the gorilla vest - they both might work then!

I was thinking it was a bit too "girly" feeling... well at least I havent totally lost my eye whilst I have been absent from YLF lately.

I agree with you and the others. Myou have waaaayyyy better dresses. this ones does not deserve a spot in your closet.

Don't give up on fit and flare, though. Yours is out there!

Agree that the sleeves are the problem - it magically transforms from a return to a keep when you put the jacket on, but you want it for the summer so I would return.

Is this dress a Petite or a regular size? If Petite, a regular size might hit you in a better place. It wouldn't make the sleeves look any different, tho' . . . .But if it were me, I don't think the dress is fab enough to try a different size range.

Shannon clearly you have this one worked out:). I think it's great you tried the dress, but my first thought was too cutesy and not sophisticated enough for you. It seems quite incongruent with your style.

I didn't read all of the comments but enough to know it isn't getting the love.

I actually disagree. While it may emphasize (I didn't really notice this) a short waist, it also elongates the leg line tremendously. I think the proportions are quite good on your petite frame. I do particularly like it with the jacket but thought it looked pretty fine without it too.

Well, phew! I looked at these pics late last night, when possibly nobody had yet posted, and thougth "nope, that's not for Shannon". But I was on my way to bed, and didn't want to be the first to say I didn't care for it. What if I was wrong?

I wanted to love it, in fact I saw it in the store a while ago and wanted to love it for me too. But it's just not the best shape for you. As others have now said :).

Oh, and I went and looked up the gorilla thread. Hilarious!

Yep, agree with the consensus. There are some appealing things about it, but it's just not the right dress for you. Well, no harm in trying, right?

I'm sometimes actually a little relieved when something like this clearly doesn't work, because then I don't hem and haw -- I just take it off, return it to the hanger, and move on to the next thing. The harder items are the ones that are *almost* it!
