k/r - frye boots

I love these boots, and they're super comfy, but I'm not sure if they fit properly in the calf. I would like to be able to wear them with skirts and bare legs as well as jeans. What do you think? They were spendy, so I only want to keep them if they're perfect.

They look great in the first pic but look a tad too tall in the other following two. I think it might just be the camera angle though. Any chance you could provide a picture from further away?

ETA: I'm only being picky because I know these are spendy.

Are you worried they gape a bit at th top? I think they're fine, especially if you want room to tuck. Love the colour!

I'm wondering if they gape a bit at the top because they are too high? The top of the boots is the widest part, but it's higher than the widest bit of my calf.

I think my attempt to buy fewer, nicer clothes is making me neurotic!

I agree, Fern. I think that they are too tall for you, and that's why they gap. I would try a boot with a slightly shorter shaft. How tall are you?

Sarah, I'm five four, with short legs (I think especially short from the knee down). Part of what I like about these boots is the 2.5 inch heels! I'm always looking for heels that are comfy enough to walk the half hour to work in.

But sadly I think they must go back. Thanks, guys!

I'm sorry, Fern. Finding the perfect boot is so frustrating. You might look at the Frye Veronica Slouch and Sabrina and Campus 14 - they all have shorter shafts, although I'm not sure they're what you're looking for.

Because I know Frye's are spendy, I am going to be very picky.

I think they are a little too tall. I wear Frye Campus boots with bare legs and they do gape. However that is the look I am going for with them - very RATE - and they hit right at the widest part of my calf.

You might try the Melissa lace-ups - the calf will be more adjustable due to the laces and the shaft might be slightly shorter. (Dunno for sure on that one though).

Ya, the gap would bother me. I've been looking for a pair of boots too (ones that are no fuss to put on); zero luck.

It's interesting about boot height - I totally never thought about that in the relationship to gaping.

I second trying the Frye Melissa Lace-ups! I am 5'5" and skinny calves (13.25 inch) and they are perfect for me! Most other Fryes are too wide or tall for me.

Sorry those didn't work out for you! But yeah, Fryes are spendy and I'd want a perfect fit with them.

I also suggest looking at the Rory scrunch -- scrumptious leather, 2.5" heel. But I think Frye may have discontinued that model so you might have to hunt around a bit for the boot.

I was going to suggest the Rory scrunch as well. The material is much softer and more forgiving. I think both Angie and Kari have them.
As others said, I don't think the main issue is the gaping, I think you notice it more because they are a tad tall for you.
You should be very picky with Fryes. I've lost count of how many styles I tried and returned. I still don't own any.

I have one pair of Fryes already that I love and have had since the 90s - the Campus - and I am still looking for another! I will try the Rory if I can find them in the right size and color - they sound great.

I also have a pair of the Rory's and they are my favorites of all of my boots. Fern, I have found that I cannot wear the same knee-high boot for both skirts and pants - because in order for me to be able to tuck pants into a boot the boot needs to have a bit of a gap, but when I wear them bare-legged or with tights that gap is too big. I have never found a pair that works for both!
