Flush Blouse, Slouch Pants, Electric jacket UPDATE

ETA: I wanted to let you know that finally I returned the pants and the blush blouse, because the fit was too large one me. As much as I loved them. But I kept the jacket! Thank you for your helpful feedback on this. You guys are wonderful.

I need your input on these new pieces. Please excuse my tired face devoid of make-up today...

Lots of new things in my life. For one, I am now teaching in a CEGEP (like a college or prep school). I am very excited about it. So the outfits below are not for the corporate world any more.

I also tried a new hairdresser last week. The previous one was going in an androgynous, boyish direction and I really wanted something more gamine. Every time, she kept going her way. I was happy when I came out of the salon last week, thought it was very Mia Farrow, but today I don't know. I find I look like an old lady. What ever that horrible term means. It might be my lack of makeup. Please be completely honest!

The three new items below are all from Zara, and I have kept the tags on still.

The blush blouse:

Pic 1: on its own with my slim jeans. I was attracted by its colour, its elegant max ease, but I wonder: does it just look too big?

Pic 2: with a little tweed vest I had. Perfect to teach in?

Pic3: with gap skinny khakis from last year, and an electric blue jacket I also picked up.

Pics4-7: Same top, with blue slouch pants. These are the three items I bought worn together. What do you think?

Hair is fab - much more Mia than Mommish. I love the blouse, the blazers and the trousers. Love the trousers but not with the blouse. To me, a bit too much slouch. I would try a tee shirt or more fitted shell. Lovely!

Krish, your hair is lovely! It really *is* a bit like Mia. Very gamine indeed. Also, if you are not 100% convinced, still it might be worth trying this stylist again, as it might take a cut or two before she 1). understands what you want; 2). is able to create it, i.e. hair may need to grow in places first. Anyway, I think you look really pretty.

And congratulations on the new job! That is wonderful news! My step-son teaches at a CEGEP and loves the work. There is quite a lot of creative licence in developing the courses at his school.

The top is really pretty on you. I like it best on its own (no jacket) and in #3. That's a fun mix of classic and slouch and looks spring-like. But it would also look good with other tops. I also LOVE the slouchy blue pants! So fab! I am not sure whether it is too much slouch to wear the top and pants together. Not to my eye...but I'm not sure I trust my eye!

I think your hair is really cute. I would give this stylist another try. As Suz said, it may take some time for her to get to know your hair.

On their own merits, I love all three items. I think they're 10s. Nice finds!

Outfit-wise, to my eye, numbers 1 and 3 are faint-worthy. I love the blue slouchy pants, but not with the blue jacket - the colours almost but not quite match, and that throws me off.

Suz, Thistle, Ceit, thank you for the boost about my hair. You are right, it needs to grow in the right places. About the pants, me too, I like the double slouch, but I am afraid it might be too overwhelming on me.

I think tired and no makeup face does do a lot for your feelings for the hair because it looks fab! Give it a week to settle in, I always feel I need a week before my haircut starts to feel like me.

I am in love with the blazer - such a beautiful color and the cut . Looks like it fits well. The blouse is very nice too, beautiful refreshing color (especially for a tired face and it is not too big at all.
I am not sure about the slouchy pants. They look fine but something is off for me. Mind you, it may be just the styling and not the pants themselves. I think it may be the length though: I would prefer them to be a bit longer to slouch more at the ankles. And again it may be just this particular styling which does not appeal to me... Confusing you, am I? Sorry!!!

Wow a lot of good stuff going on! I think your hair looks great but reading your description I had a big twinge of recognition. I had no idea how delicate the line is between feeling fab and feeling frump is when it comes to very short hair until now. But I see only fab in these pictures. I like the trousers but want to see them with different, flat shoes, or heels and exposed ankles. They are just at that tricky length as far as I can see. And finally congratulations on the new job!

I love the blouse and blazer on you.The pants I am not very sure, I still haven't understood how slouch pants are supposed to fit.
I would need to see how the haircut grows to give an opinion, give it a week or two before you make up your mind.

I love the color and shape of the blouse on you. I like the way it coordinates with the jacket in 2, but in that photo, the blouse looks a bit big to me, because it seems to gap open too much. Or perhaps you need a higher camisole under it; anyway, for teaching, I would want something a little higher cut.
I do like outfit 3 a lot, and I can see that's the same camisole underneath, giving a more covered effect--so I'm wondering if it's just the way you were standing in #2. But did you try a size down in the blouse? Or might you pin it shut just a little higher on the body? I think surplice/wrap styles are hard to get just right, especially on a smaller figure.
I like outfit 4-7 a lot, too. On whether the blues coordinate well, I'll trust you, because that's really hard to tell in a photo. They look a little different, but not clashing, on my screen.

Sveta, I agree about the slouchy pants. I am torn. Sometimes they look really good, but then in other angles they look way too slouchy. I think it is because my legs are so short. Maybe it's a case of pants being very cool, very much the style direction I want, but my body shape refusing it totally.

Shevia, thanks. Yes, with short hair, it is easy to look very frumpy, that's why frequent cuts are necessary, and that is why it is so hard to grow out when you decide to.

Firecracket, you know what, you are right. This blouse is a wonderful colour but it does gap too much for comfort. Another case of "I love this style! "I want this style!" vs my body type saying no to it.

I might return the blouse and the pants in the end. Snif snif. I think I need to spend more $$$ if I want to follow this trend, because I just can't pull it off on the cheap.

That blue jacket is made for you, Krish. It does all kinds of wonderful things to your hair and face. I am not crazy about the blouse, though and I dont have an eye for slouch pants. I really like the slouch pants trend but don't know enough about how it should fit.

Glad you kept the jacket. I think the pants could have worked well but not if they did not fit right! You are right to return if the fit was off!!

Krish, I do really like that color of pink on you, and it goes great with blue. Keep looking, and keep us posted by all means. I love pink with khaki, one of my favorite combos.

Thank you all for your uplifting words of support. I feel much better about my haircut now that I have found a way to style it that pleases me. I think I will start a separate thread on the topic.

I had to realize the fit on the returned items was not the best. Even though I was very excited about their trendiness. I decided to apply the PPP actively now when I shop. I don't have as much time as before, because I am presently working two jobs on top of being a mom. I have more $ than before, yet I am buying much less and in a wiser way. Strange how the human psychology works! However, re-building a decent, appropriate, fitting wardrobe is among my priorities. So I'll be posting more.
