K/R Faux Leather jeans/leggings

I know this look has been around for a while. Is it almost a classic now? I tried some a few years ago but you all felt I should look for a cut other than skinny, as that look might be gone soon. So, I got some real leather Vince pants with a track pant cut. Same ones Una has. I do like them.

But I am thinking it would be fun to get a skinny pair after all. And maybe crop them to look more current. Here I am in them. I would need to get them hemmed. And wear different underwear LOL.

So should I keep them? I got them off eBay and got caught up in a bit of a bidding war, but they weren't exactly expensive either. They are NWT from 7 for All Mankind and extremely soft.

I've attached some inspiration pictures from Net-a-Porter (pics 4-14). Just to convince myself that this is not a dated look. There are way more skinny leather pants than track style ones on this site now (found a pair from R13, similar to my Vince ones, shown in picture 15). Don't know why I didn't collect these as finds. I'll try to go back and do that but for now I have to go.

So -- keep or return?
And what are your thoughts on this look?

I like them. I've been drawn to this look this fall as well, but I haven't purchased anything yet. I was leaning more towards coated denim than out and out faux leather.

Are these leather or coated denim? I bought a pair of the waxed skinnies from Current Elliot last week and am trying to decide whether or not to keep them. I love the look too - and I hate to say this, but I feel like the skinnies are such classics and will outlast the track pant style which already seems to be on the downward slope of it's trend life. I had a discussion with the shop owner/buyer about these jeans , and we agreed that they can dress up so easily, yet also look very urban and every-day. I think these look great on you, and you'll likely get a ton of wear out of them.

I'm loving this look. Yes, it's been around a while, but some how it seems fresh again this fall, maybe it's the slightly shorter leg, maybe it's the flats instead of the sky high heels. I'd keep.

I feel like they've entered the realm of modern classic. You look so amazing in jeans, and these look great.

I have a pair of very dark green coated denim skinnies that I'm looking forward to wearing -- I didn't wear them much last fall/winter but for some reason I'm feeling then more now than I was last year. Not sure why that is.

I think they look wonderful on you and you will get a ton of use out of them. I feel like they tried to say skinnies were out and the backlash moved them right into classic. Also I think leather leggings are *even more* classic than leather skinnies, if possible. Not that there's too much difference, but the idea.

I am feeling like a fuddy duddy but I don't love these on you. The way they crease in the back and to some extent in the front bugs me. You have a great figure for them and can certainly pull them off, but they sort or read as leggings that don't fit right. Please take with a grain of salt and my ongoing admiration for your style!

I like the look, and they are very much your style. As Lisa said, you can dress them up or down, and wear them as you would a good pair of blue jeans. I hate to say this, but I wish they were just a tad looser, to avoid the horizontal lines. But it's not a deal breaker; skinnies do that on me, too, so maybe that's why I'm sensitive to it.

I love them, and the creasing doesn't bother m a single bit. I also think that they are a modern classic now. Love all the looks you posted and will save them for inspiration.
Coincidentally, I have just bought a pair from BR earlier today that serves the same purpose, they are fake leather only in the front, with the back made of stretchy material . I plan to shorten them to slightly cropped length , like in your photo #6.

You should keep them. I have coated black skinnies and like your inspiration photos a lot, especially #5, 7, 10, and 12. I've been wearing my skinnies with tunics but will try them with shorter tops/tunics like the ones you posted to see if they work for me.

I'm not sure about the fit of these - all of the horizontal creases give me pause. I'm wondering if a size smaller (or should it be a size bigger?) would fit you better? Do you have the option of getting them in a different size?

Keep. They look great on you. I bought a pair of coated black denim skinnies over our winter and more recently some cropped black denim skinnies. I also wondered whether I was buying into a dying look. But when I get out and about it seems like everyone - here at least - is in skinnies. It's the people's choice!

I am with Marley and Shevia. Are these leather? Or coated? I have a pair of true leather skinnies from the Row (sadly too small at the moment) and they don't wrinkle because the leather is more smooth and firm somehow, where denim will pull and give those horizontal lines. I don't hate them but I think you can get a better fit.

As far as whether they're in, do we care that much? I'm planning to wear the track pants this week!

I hadn't noticed the wrinkling until the others mentioned it...that always brothers me (on me) otherwise I think they look great and you've proven with the inspiration photos that it's a great and current look.

Hi Everyone,
These are not faux leather. They're not that sweaty material. The ones I got a few years ago, and returned, were faux leather. Rather, they are a non-coated leather look fabric that's as soft as pajamas. It''s shiny. But not as shiny as the stock photo in #3.

The creasing stumps me too. I imagine that it happens because there is more volume on the front rather than the back of our legs. Am I correct? Also, I have less creasing if I size down one size or up 2 or 3 sizes (where stretch is no longer a factor), but sizing down or up presents other problems. So I make peace with the crease.

I didn't write this initially but I think my bigger question is -- should I just hold out for leather jeans/leggings?

I love the leather leggings look and think you're perfect for it... But I do think these have too much material; they seem big.

I guess it depends on how good these pants are at mimicking leather. They look very much like leather in these pictures. I like the creasing at the knees. I'm unsure about the jean-like detailing at the top, and I feel like if any part of these is going to date, that would be it.
I like that these are breathable.
I love the look of leather skinnies and don't think they'll go out of style too soon, so it might be worth it to get real leather if you can't get a reasonable fake, and depending on how much you intend to use them.

I love this look. If you're leaning towards real leather I found some True Religion leather skinnies in one of the TR stores at one of the outlet malls back in April. We were travelling all through California and I can't remember where the mall was. Marked down from $700 to $100 so may be worthwhile seeing if you can track a pair down to try.

The creasing is bugging me as well. I think it detracts from the sleek look you should have with a leather or faux leather pant.

I am not sure on the fit Denise, but this post is making me realize that the similar pair I have (and no longer available) but have yet to wear is a size too large. I MUCH prefer this nicely skinny fit on you. *sigh* Sad. Anyway I do like the idea of hemming up whatever pair you get to a more cropped length.
