K/R: Equipment blouse and cashmere sweater

Well, so much for SYC! I went into Nordstrom for some face lotion yesterday, and ended up running into the SA who has been helping me with picking outfits. She showed me this Equipment blouse marked down from $265 (!) to $70. At first I was all "Buttondown? Delicate silk? Bright stripes?" But the colors are orange, magenta, grey and cobalt, all of which I wear or could wear. So I tried it, and then she talked me into this supersoft and comfy light grey cashmere sweater to wear over it for now, since it's freezing. I had $60 worth of Notes to apply too, which was nice.

What do you think? Please be honest, as these are new looks for me, and also are sort of breaking my SYC vows. But on the other hand, they are contributing to my polished workwear and will de-orphan my orange and magenta Halogen skirts.

I LOVE that blouse on you! The colors are fantastic and sprightly, and I like the unusual combination with the organge skirt.
I'm not sure about the grey color of the sweater - could we possibly see it without the brightly colored top? I feel like the bright colors are making the grey look more washed out than it actually is.

I love it on you, both #1 and #2. It is a bit long to be worn without tucking with this skirt but it would be fab with skiiny jeans as well. The swaeter is also a keeper, IMO. Great finds and I vote to keep them both. The colors are gorgeous on you, so perfect with the skirt.

I like the silhouette of this outfit a lot, but I think I'd prefer it if the sweater were another bright color from the blouse. (As I remember, you look great in cobalt!) But I think I would like the grey sweater paired with less intense colors--and the shape does seem sort of UWP.

loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee the blouse. I like the skirt and sweater too actually. all keepers in my book unless you have one too many grey sweaters?

Kari, thanks! I'll post a separate photo (my camera battery just died). It is a cool pale icy grey - not heather, but definitely light. It is unbelievably warm for such an airy looking sweater, which I guess is true of cashmere. I feel like my wardrobe is schitzophrenic - half eye-searing brights, half wintery neutrals and black...

Sona, the skirt's already been altered in the hips (it's the Halogen skirt) so it's a keeper now, and I'm finding it fun to experiment. Thanks for the shirt boost!

I love the shirt untucked with the skirt (just love seeing that sheerness over the skirt especially the orange stripe...when it is tucked it seems like the oranges clash a bit but it might just be the lighting). I like the sweater with it but would prefer to see the grey repeated somewhere; do you have grey shoes or boots?

I think it makes sense: the neutrals are very UWP but the brights look so good with your coloring (and are maybe essential for surviving the dark winters??).

Oh! I got this same blouse a few months ago but returned it because I was trying not to buy Made in China so much. But I love the blouse. I think it goes beautifully with the grey cashmere sweater (but I would tuck it in, or wear it with a longer sweater if you're going for an untucked look). It's great on its own with the skirt or you could pair it with skinnies. So I vote keep for both pieces.

The sweater is a good basic, if you don't have something similar already...as for the blouse, it is a sharp (good, IOW) look for you--colorful, mod, work-appropriate, etc etc. My caveat, since I ordered another Equipment blouse two months ago, is simply that they are extremely delicate and at the same time, wicked expensive (though you got a better deal than I did, at $115). If you can wear yours without fear of tearing it, then it's a keeper. I stupidly had velcro near it (from my arm sling) and the next thing I knew, there were all sorts of tiny threads sticking out of it. But that's me; I'm still in the process of learning to be nice to my clothes.

Love the blouse colors and tucked with the skirt. I like the grey sweater but also feel it's either too pale or cool with this and too short for the length of the shirt untucked (but only a little bit) Keep both - make them work! Great bargain on the blouse.

Love the blouse! Proportion-wise, I like it best tucked with the skirt, but you could wear it untucked with skinnies or other pants.....

I like the sweater too, but not sure about the cool color with the warmer blouse and skirt.

The shirt looks fantastic! I vote return on the sweater, or better yet (if possible) exchange for a different color - I am not convinced it is the best color on you, but the shape is good.

I like the blouse untucked also. I like seeing the undershirt "grin" (is that right Angie?:)) through the sheer fabric. And I think the colors are so lively and fresh. Really nice.

The skirt and blouse are GORGEOUS Una, both separate, and especially together! I love the blouse tucked in as it gives you a longer leg line. Gotta be honest and say I'm not loving the sweater with this outfit. But the blouse and skirt together are DIVINE!

I love the way the blouse and shirt look together! You look wonderful in vibrant hues. The sweater looks like a great basic. I actually like how it looks with the skirt and with the shirt peeping out. It's a variation on the bright pants formula Angie posted (bright bottoms, striped shirt, grey topper)

Looks amazing tucked!!! I vote keep based on that. Though I think it's too long for you untucked... don't know if that is a problem for you or not.

I do like the sweater, but probably only with brights... I think it would kinda be like a pastel alone next to your face.

Without reading other responses, here is what I think of them on you.
The sweater looks a bit plain and would always need something this strongly colored to support it. Which can be sorted with the layering tee or scarf, I guess. Or a hat... I am not coloring expert, but it looks to me like it might make you look pale if you're not careful.

The blouse is vibrant and colorful, but in my view a bit harsh and too formal for
you. Those stripes are difficult to pull of for UWP. I've had a wardrobe full of striped banker style shirts that have been whittled down to a few I absolutely adore - all others had to go, no amount of soft vests or cardigans could soften the look.

Just my two pennies worth...

I love both of these! I think they will be workhorses for you. I could totally see the sweater over the blouse with some dark denim skinnies; with the skirt, the proportions just look slightly off to my eye.

Aren't sales fun? I just got an amazing structured jacket at Ann Taylor for $30! And a bright magenta silk blouse at J. Crew for $30!

The blouse is a keeper, easy.

Not sure on the sweater - I'm thinking the same as Kari. The color here does not look great. I would like to see it with some neutrals or in natural light before deciding. I do like the shape, however.

I love the blouse on you Una. The sweater is reading *pastel* to me and I think a darker charcoal might look better next to your face. I love the shape of it for your style, though. If you keep the blouse and return the sweater, you only cheated on your SYC by $10, right? So it doesn't even really count, I'm thinkin. Do you have a great jacket/blazer you can wear over this outfit instead?

I love the blouse tucked and the colors look so vibrant.. I think you look so pretty in bright colors. I would keep the blouse and if you need a comfy sweater I would keep it for that price.

Love it tucked into this particular skirt - sans the jumper.

But I think with skinnies, it will look great layered and un-tucked!
