K/R emotionally-purchased Matisse booties?

I have to admit that these booties were a purely emotional purchase, ordered in an effort to buy a little happy (I also ordered white jeans, but those didn't pan out at all). Now that they're here, though, I am torn on what to do with them.

Cons:

Not a huge need in the closet.
Stretches the budget
An older style... possibly means it will go "out" faster? Maybe I caught onto these too late in the game?

Pros:

Angie-promoted Matisse Nugent bootie that has been road tested by many YLF-ers
Very good price on sale at Zappos
Edgier than most of my other shoes, probably will elevate my outfits as I move to the Indie/Via C. department at work in January.
Super comfy

What do you think, ladies? Without the emotional goggles on, are these a good buy for me?

If you love them, keep them. They could be somewhat neutral, like leopard.

I honestly love them. If you treat them like a neutral adding texture, I think you'll come to adore them. They are a great way to make your outfits look posh and interesting but still very approachable for work. You have to be able to wear that height comfortably for work for me to wholeheartedly endorse them, though.

If they were an emotional purchase, keep them if the emotional reaction is good now that you have them.

You probably have a better sense than I do for trend longevity, but my guess is they'll last a bit still - the pointed toe and thin wedge are an update over some of the wedge boot looks from the past few years.

Also, leather lining at that price? Score!

I'd take half an hour to play around creating outfits--on your body, not just in theory. If you discover at least three or four high-happiness outfits, I'd vote to keep. Extra points get awarded if the outfit is work-worthy.

I recently did that with a leather jacket that was an impulse buy because I thought it would add an edge to some of my more classic outfits. Good idea in theory, but not so much in practice. The jacket went back without any regrets.

Oh I am going to be a HUGE enabler here - I love them! I bought the Corso Como leopard print booties and have been practically putting them on a pedestal with a light shining on them while waiting until my foot heals from surgery so I can wear them! Keep, keep, keep...keep, keep keep!

Hah. I am wearing these right now. I also wear them in Summer with skirts and dresses. Very comfortable. I walked 130 NYC blocks in these booties (with Body Glide) during Day 4 of Fashion Week. If that doesn't impress you - I give up.

They were ahead of their time with the pointy toe. They are more relevant and on trend than ever right now.

Plus, keep the booties! I have them from 2 (or is it 3?) years ago, and Angie is spot on about how they were ahead of the curve. I love mine and always feel a notch more stylish in them. . .

I think they look great and are likely to be really versatile. That said, I agree with Gaylene that you should try them on with a few outfits to see if they work in your closet. I've definitely done the "buy to make myself happy" thing, and I've found that how well that works definitely depends on how much I end up using the item/how the overall outfit feels rather than just the specific object. I hope you're feeling better in general though, regardless of whether or not these booties work out! ( As an aside: I've also done the "body mod to make myself happy" thing - that has much more consistent results for me. I still grin every time I see my tattoos out of the corner of my vision.)

Well, fab as they are, I would be struggling to style these. How do you like the outfits around them? They seem like something that needs outfits, rather than going with outfits. But your style is also evolving and cat print is a good theme. Just not sure these are it.

I'm a spanner. I think you're justifying them to yourself too hard. This is totally independent of how wonderful the boots actually are! But my gut feeling is that if you are trying to pro/con, you should pretty much default to con.

I like what Greyscale said. Do you still have the great emotional happy feeling about these booties now, some time after the purchase? If so, then I would keep. Personally, I would probably wear them indoors for at least a few days and monitor my reaction to them. If I continue to like them and they still make me happy, then I would keep. Wearing them indoors for a few days gives your emotions time to "cool off" so that you can make a more accurate assessment of what you truly think of them.

I'm going to chime back in here. Maybe this will be helpful, maybe not.

These boots, for me, are not what most would consider workhorses. But! They are a valued part of my wardrobe. Some days -- ok, many days -- I like the punch in my outfit to be my footwear. These boots are great for those days, and granted, I have a LOT of fab boots, so they have to take their turn in rotation. They are the kind of thing that I spy in my closet, say "hey! I wanna wear those!" and take the opportunity to wear with a simple outfit to nudge it up a bit stylewise. It helps that they are very comfortable.

I know you have to decide whether they warrant a place in your wardrobe, and your criteria may be different from mine, but I wanted to throw that perspective in there, just in case it helps you decide. I do think they look fab on you.

It will be interesting if your style changes again going into Via C and Individualist. The flagship Seattle store has some pretty sharp dressers in those departments.

I have been wearing my hand me downs, non stop. I would say keep them. That wedge bootie is very in ATM. I find them really easy to style, they " go with everything, even if they don't match. Also, try them with our twinnie leather jacket. They look fantastic together.

Yeah, I'd be wearing mine if they still fit (wave to Zap). But like Anna says, I think they should sing to you. Maybe try some Via C (congrats BTW) type of outfits to see if they will work in that context?

Congratulations on moving to Via C!

I tried those booties but they were too narrow for me. I do think the silhouette is quite trendy. The only question I have would be about the color.I like what Gaylene said -- great advice.

Nancy, I actually sized down a half size in these (as I strangely do in all pointy-toed shoes). I think I am weird in that my middle toes are longest and my feet are narrow. I don't feel they make my feet look bigger in this color - however, I tried the white version when they first came out, and my feet felt huge in the white color.

Curious to know if you've reached a verdict on these. Sometimes pro and con lists don't tell the whole story. I have some thoughtful purchases that I've ended up not wearing much, and some irrational emotional purchases that have ended up being workhorses.

Rae - the booties look lovely on. But I think you need to figure out why you are ambivalent. If the booties are just a stretch in the evolution for your current style then styling them with outfits will help you decide. OTOH, if you are ambivalent because of cost, bad association buying when you need a lift, or they do not call to you, then there will be many more beautiful things that will make you happier. How do your handbag go with these booties? I do agree with Janet and Angie that they would upgrade the style quotient of any outfit and like Catnip said, I think they work as a classy neutral. I think you need to explore you ambivalence to make a good decision. Either way, you can't go wrong - beautiful booties or beautiful something else!! Listen to your gut, it will steer you right!!

I know this is a me-me-me hijack, but though I really love these (remember being jealous when Zap scored them--my feet were too big), I am thinking I will pass on them now, even at the good price. I suspect they are going to be too narrow with my particular foot shape. But I can see how they'd be versatile, and they're so stylish!
