K/R: Emerson Frye order (enablers, chime in!)

Thanks to Viva and Gryffin, I placed this completely unnecessary order, although both items are HEWIs I'd given up on.

First, the citron silk dress. This is close to a neon, and has a definite 80s style with the loose triangle cut and raglan sleeves. At first I didn't think I would like it, but it's really nicely made. AND IT'S MY COLOR! could have it shortened. The pockets are at my hips, surprisingly, which I think is good. It's not a winter dress unless I layer over it.

Second, this chunky black tunic sweater. This is a HEWI for sure - I have been looking for an oversized substantial sweater that doesn't swamp me for some time. This pic will be coming down, but I'm posting with uncovered legs so you can see the length. I can see it with leggings or tights and boots, or skinnies and ankle boots. I got the smallest size - Gryffin recommended a S but she is taller than me and I was afraid of being swamped. Amazingly this is roomy.

Una I think both are great additions. The citron is a gorgeous colour and you wear it really well. I suspect the dress looks amazing in real life given the colour and the fabric. I like the length, but I think I would like it a little shorter also. I am imagining it with black leggings and ankle boots and a draped cocoon shaped cardigan for the cooler weather?

Ok camera died so here's a phone pic attempting Deb's suggestion with my asymmetric black cardi and OTK boots. Wrinkles need steaming. I think shortening just a titch might help, although this length may be trendier. It's a very fluid fabric. What do you think?

Both look GREAT. I look rotten in yellows like that but you pull it off so well. Kudos! I love it styled in the picture in your comment.

By the way, what does HEWI stand for? I've been a YLF reader/lurker long enough to figure out most of the lingo, but I just can't seem to think of what that one might be!

I love them both on you so much. When I was shopping the site, I never even noticed the citron dress. I prefer the citron dress without the cardigan. When you add the cardigan, something unique and special is lost (but I defer to your weather).

You look beyond fabulous.

Is there any itchiness to the black sweater? I have lusted after that sweater in the neural, but always decided against because it is wool.

Una - the sweater is TDF gorgeous on you!! Wow, perfect length, oversized in the best possible deliberate way and very flattering. I have to tell you I've lived in this piece since it arrived and I bought a backup when the price hit bottom. Sterling - I do not sense any itch and I have sensitive skin. When I unboxed it, the sweater felt more heavy cotton than wool. That is how fine and smooth the fiber is. But let Una chime in with her opinion. Una - I usually wear this with regular or leather leggings but there is not reason you could not wear it with tights, it's certainly long enough. No it does not overwhelm you at all. I think it looks fabulously flattering.
I think I told you I bought the yoshi tunic in supernova. It's almost identical to the citron dress in shape but no pockets. Is that dress silk? Mine is a super heavy and beautifully constructed heavy cotton. The only problem I have is major static cling to the leggings (not sure if that's the 33" snow) otherwise I would have worn it already. I love this on you. Color and shape very elegant and flattering. Have you tried it with your bespoke jacket or boyfriend jacket in black, maybe with a long pendant and leggings? I tried mine on with the theory selata and leggings and if can overcome the static cling problem that's how I will wear it to work. Great pieces and I hope you really like them. Always feel bad when on go on a jag about how much I love something because you never know. But they are both truly stunning on you!!

honestly, i'm not as big a fan of the citron dress, i don't dislike it, but i don't love it either….i'm not really sure why….and as i appear to be the outlier please feel free to disregard my comments.

Love both pieces. I agree with Sterling that the dress is better with no topper, but it's still good with... and wearing it with just extends it's use, right?

I ordered that tunic as well Total splurge given the Canadian $$ at the moment, but I can see it getting a ton of wear, given my move towards more leggings. I hope it fits as well as it does on you... I waited too long and lost the size I was going to order, so went down a size. It seemed roomy enough to get away with that, I'm hoping it's still roomy but not overwhelming. Time will tell.

I love the color and style of the dress on you but think it needs to be a tad shorter. The sweater is great and is not overwhelming, what good length it is.

I'm with kkards. Love the sweater - an easy piece for sure, but I have to admit I"m unsure about the dress. I wish it were a clearer colour, or more neon or something . Sorry - I've seen you look so great, this seems only ok to me.

I agree with kkards. The sweater is a slam dunk. There is something about the dress that is giving me pause. I am not a huge fan of citron, but even taking that out of the equation, I'm not totally sold. Please forgive me, but I'm getting a bit of a hospital gown vibe from it. I feel like something -- maybe the sleeves -- needs more structure? I dunno. Feel free to ignore me, because if you feel fab in it, that's all that matters. I'm feeling very particular these days.

I like both items although I like the black sweater better than the citron dress. It may be a case where the item looks better in movement than in a photo.

BTW - I think your legs look fine, no reason to take the picture down. The sweater is practically long enough to be a dress.

Consider yourself enabled! I had to pause at Janet's hospital gown and peer closely, but you know what? Belt that dress, and it's a slightly-oversized citron version of the turquoise dress Kim Basinger wore in Batman. (I was obsessed with that dress back in 1989 or 1990, and got myself a copycat version, a pink belt, and a spiral perm.)

So maybe I have too much of a sugar eye for that dress, but I like it!

I am enabling for for you. The dress and sweater are a great fit. I am not sure about the dress for winter but for spring and summer I think you will not regret it.

I'll enable you also. That sweater is gorgeous. I'm kicking myself for not having ordered while my size was still available. Chunky over-sized cozy elegance is hard to find!

I like the dress too. You look amazing in that color and that it has pockets (in the right places yet) is notable. Be careful layering over it. Try lots of things to see what works best. I'd personally try for something striking by way of a topper: a bright color or maybe a bold patterned poncho. You could have lots of fun with shoes and accessories, too! That said, I cannot wear that shade of yellow, so anything I say about how to style it is suspect.

I'm not totally sure about the dress. I think it just looks a bit all-over too big. But I think you could make it work if you really love it.

Thanks, everyone. Looks like the sweater is staying. Elizabeth, it's not super-soft but not itchy either. Feels like an old-school shaker-knit cotton sweater from the 80s. It's quite roomy and I think a size down will fit you just fine!

Hmm, looks like I need to try the dress in a size down. The color is actually clear and more of a neon lime than citron, probably not coming through with my terrible lighting. It's a very 80s color which is probably why I like it. Do not want to look like I'm wearing a hospital gown - thanks for the honesty always!
