K/R: EF Top ETA w/red pants

I bought this EF top before NAS but I have yet to wear it. This makes me wonder if I should return it. Partly I worry that I'll catch the loosely woven yarn on something. The other thing is that it probably makes me look heavier. Should I return it?

ETA: See my post at the end. The Topshop top below is more my style.

I kind of love it on you. It would be hard for you to look heavy.

That said, it's a concern if you haven't worn it yet. Is it solely due to your worry about snagging the yarn? If you won't wear it, then you should definitely return it!

But I do think it looks great and seems to be pretty versatile in your closet. Outfit 1 is my favorite.

I'm not a fan of the shoulders/sleeves/armholes. I like the idea of a loose knit boxy top, but I would keep looking.

I think it looks great on you, Donna. It gels well with your effortless cool style.

That said, the loosely knit yarn catching on something would bother me too. If I wore that top, I'd wear it with no jewelry. It's pretty cool just by itself.

But if you aren't sure you'll wear it, you should return it. As for your 2nd concern - you don't look heavy in it at all.

I like this top, particularly the detailing at the edge. But I think the boxiness is the thing that makes me wonder whether it is really for you. I don't know about the fabric catching, I would think that if anyone could make a fabric that doesn't catch or pull it would be EF.

I do love the EF harem pants!

I really like it, Donna. The boxiness is deliberate and reined in because it drapes back onto the body, and I don't think it makes you look heavy at all. I especially love it with the harem pants, and it works well with the black skirt too.

I hear you on the snagging concerns though, and, of course, in the end it's also you that has to feel fabulous in it.

I like it. It doesn't make you look heavy to me. But is it too fussy? Looks like it may need to be readjusted a lot to hang evenly. Plus, I'm not hearing you feel in love with it.

OMG, woman, stop tormenting me with your fabulousness!! I seriously want to come and take lessons from you. You have the most effortless way of combining funky, edgy pieces with classics that somehow comes across as creative and super-stylish rather than "arty older woman" if you know what I am saying. Not that there is a thing wrong with arty older women. It's just a bit of a stereotyped look where I live, that I personally want to avoid.

Anyway -- onwards. I LOVE this top -- it looks fantastic on you. The boxiness is intentional, the length is great with higher waist items and skirts, and you could also layer a simple black or navy or white tee under if you wanted more warmth. It's kind of like chain mail!

And brilliant with your hair.

I know your weather patterns are quite different from mine, but I know I would not be wearing this until autumn in my neck of the woods.

And of course if the yarn is delicate, well, that's a different issue and I understand if you can't keep. I can't wear things that my kitty might snag with his claws when he is kneading on me, so I get it.

Hmm, I'm on the fence on this one. Not even sure exactly why because the color is great, the cut is unique and it fits you well - but maybe just because I am also one to worry about things like snagging fabric. I wonder how it would look with red bottoms?

Well I'm all over this one! I love it on you, think it is super modern and very true to your style. Yes, I can see how it would have the potential to catch on things, but pulls in that kind of yarn and knit are also relatively easy to fix (being prone to catching anything on everything myself -haha) . Nordstrom returns window sounds quite amazing - when you mentioned having bought it before NAS I was wondering how you were even considering returning it! And I'm with Suz in standing here in awe of your style. I love how you wear your clothes - full stop.

Lisa, you can return stuff to Nordstrom's WHENEVER!! Yes, you could wait a year before you return?

Do I think that's ethical? Not really. But you can do it, technically. And I confess to waiting several months to return a few bras and a pair of EF knit pants after last year's sale. Oh, and a pair of jeans, too. I justified this with the observation that all items remained in stock and were selling at regular price when I made my returns.

Judging simply by appearances, KEEP! My similar cotton open-work sweater doesn't snag, but the linen one does. But only you can judge the feel and function of it in your wardrobe. Ambivalence = RETURN.

I am still torn. I am also starting to wonder if I run too cold to get much use out of this. My long sleeve Ts don't work under this other than a couple of cowl necks that only look okay.

I love it on you and it in no way makes you look heavy. That being said I have a similar tunic from EF that I recently snagged and I think it's ruined. So it's totally understandable if you don't keep it for that reason.

It's going back and packed (make that stuffed!) into my tote for the next round of returns to Nordstrom. Too cold, too fragile, and I realized too classic for my style. As long as I have to wear a tank top underneath, this Topshop top with sewn on discs is more my style, it is slightly warmer believe it or not, and I can add a topper pretty easily.

Thank you KristinSF, Astrid, Maneera, Jane, Inge, texstyle, delurked, Suz, Aileen, lisap, Anne, Chewyspaghetti, AviaMariah, Momo, and Cerinda -- and anyone else I've inadvertently missed -- for taking the time to weigh in and really help me make this decision. I think the top was either 50% or 60% off so I had a bit of sales goggles on, but it was still more than I would normally pay for such an item. If it had been under $40 I probably would have kept it.
