K/R: EF and J Crew - YouLookFab Forum

These items were back ordered prior to my deal with DD that I would not spend in September. She said I could keep things that were pre-ordered if I want.
1. J Crew track pants. Are these long enough? They have a 27 inch inseam and don't come in a tall size. I put them on with a plain white tee and no shoes so the fit might be clearer. Not sure if it is.
2/3. Eileen Fisher high low silk tank (size XS) - I think this may fit funny. There is a wrinkle like fold going from my chest to my hips! Why is that? Is it because I don't fill it out well enough?
4/5. EF chocolate merino wool high low topper. I am also not sure about this. I like it with the tank, but am not sure it is great on me. The shoes are my old Anyi Lu's (they are chocolate brown)
6. Same top/topper with a pair of skinny jeans (Ignore the shoes, I was trying on something else, and these shoes are so comfortable, I didn't feel like changing)

Please give you honest feedback! I don't need anything, and am only trying to expand the variety in my wardrobe with things that look excellent. If these aren't great, they can be returned and I will not fret.

Ooh, fun! Guilt-free additions during a shopping dry spell!
I really like the idea of track pants for you, and I like everything about these except the length. I would want them longer, with the cuff falling close to the top of the foot with still a little drape in the leg. I don't own any track pants, though, so we should see what others say.
I see what you mean about the tank. Can you pull it forward just a bit on your shoulders and see if the fold disappears? It seems the right size across the upper chest and bust, but you may be right that it is made for a fuller body. I like the color on you, and I would not have noticed the fold had you not pointed it out. If it will bother you, I'd say return. Otherwise, consider keeping!
The chocolate brown cardigan looks like a good fit. I'm not as crazy about the color on you; it seems to wash you out. If it's a color you like to wear and you have things you want to wear with it, then I would go for it. Otherwise, pass for something lighter in color.
I love those shoes with the buckles (those are the Anyi Lu pair, right?)--very cool little booties.

Like the pants. Try them pushed up on your leg for a blousier look, just to see.

The ef tank looks like it hangs ok from the side view but does have that odd drape from the front view. If you have to work this hard, just send back. That color is very flatter on you tho so maybe source other pieces in that shade.

I actually really like the topper but if your gut says no, then I say trust that. In my experience, that first impression is very predictive of how often I will reach for an item in the future.

I agree with Firecracker and bj1111 that the tank is not as flattering as it could be from the front.

Not loving the track pants, I think they're bunching in a nonawesome way. But I think the cardigan is a keeper.

Staysfit, It sounds like your daughter is a tough taskmaster, but it's nice that she relented for these items!

The J Crew track pants look nice on you as far as fit, but whether the length works depends on what shoes you'll wear with them. I think they might look good with pumps with a heel, and maybe a higher cut ankle boot, but I'm not crazy about them with the Anyi Lu shoes here.

As far as the tank: I wonder if you should maybe go up a size? EF tops are made to be pretty drapey, and this one looks like it might fit too closely through the bust. It may do some vertical draping at any size because of the flared cut. The color looks pretty on you- what is it?
I like the cardigan on you, and it looks nice with your jeans and the tank. What are your reservations about it?

If anything, keep the cardigan. But only if you can think of a way to wear it more than once a week. Your daughter will thank me.

Often, an item would pass the item test for me, but I didn't go the next steps and ask about what outfits I would wear it with, and what capsule it was going to fit into. That capsule test, especially, has saved me from buying items that were too dressy, too casual, duplicates of colors and looks I already had, or whatever.

I like the idea of track pants but not these particular pants on you - too short and something is not right about the fit.
I ma not sure about both either items either - none is wowing me. Do they fill a current hole? Do you love them? If answer is no to both I would pass...

I agree with Sveta. The track pants look too short, the fit of the EF top looks off and the topper looks too dark with your delicate coloring. The color of the EF tank is really good on you. Maybe a tailor would know how to adjust the fit. If you keep the track pants you might like then with black cage sandals or something with a black ankle strap. Do you have a pair of darker specs? That may help you to wear the brown topper.

Great items to try, but I think you've identified, these are not 10's for you.
You need longer pants! I think you would look great in slim tack pants with enough length for scrunch.
I can see that brown is a boot color for you. But this is very dark. So, while it would work, maybe you want to hold out for a color or blend that just looks more yummy on you. Something with flecks of gold or cream or rust to be more enlivening.

Firecracker, I also like the color of the tank, but I am not feeling good about the fit. I have another EF zip cardigan in a lighter color that I like better. I keep trying dark colors but they just don't work. I need to put them on my avoid list unless they are a low contrast stripe mixed with one of my better colors.

bj1111, I did order one more EF top in that color which I believe is called mahogany. It arrived while I was eating dinner so I will post that as well. You can weigh in on that if you would like. I think it is better.

Ironkurtin, the cardigan feels very soft and nice, but I am thinking it is dark in color. I am trying to see if I have several ways to wear it before I make a final decision.

Parsley, I am not sure why I don't like the cardigan other than the color. Maybe also the way it falls sometimes when it drapes? I worry that if I go up a size in the tank, the arm holes and the neck line would get too large.

Ummlila, yes, my DD will be grateful if I only keep things that I can wear multiple ways and multiple times! Even better if I don't buy anything!

Sveta, I was just trying to add variety to my wardrobe and try a different silhouette. I thought track pants would be a good option so I tried them. I am not happy with the fit. I like the color though. I am constantly trying EF. Not much of it works. Every once in a while I get something that I really like and then I end up wearing it frequently.

Joy, my only darker framed specs are my reading glasses. I wear the frameless lenses otherwise.

I think I will end up returning all three of these items. I'm not feeling they will add anything positive to my wardrobe. They aren't excellent enough.

I came late to the party, but I agree with your decision. None of these items were fabulous on you.
